the engines are the same even though one has more bhp

with an open pipercross filter you could beat him on getting though a tank of fuel the quickest

Sounds like yours is the 90bhp engine where his is the 100bhp engine.

Them mods arent gonna do a great deal in performance anyway.

his car could have more umph in it due to how its been treated in the past.
he could be a better driver
he could have a better tyre/suspension set up.

an exhaust system and a filter isnt gonna see you going to transform your Saxo into a ferrari.

your engine loses bhp with old age and useage etc

theres not much difference between a 90 bhp vtr and a 98 bhp vtr, infact the 90 bhp was lighter

them mods are good for about 4 - 6 bhp max all depends on whick air filter your going on about too, open or enclosed??

id just splash your money on a bigger car

What kind of exhaust system and manifold do you have? If it's a custom one you could be losing power there aswell as losing power with your filter.

Right bascially the 'Simple' difference between the two was where the cat was.

Early R models had the cat under the car like a S where as the later models had the cat in the manifold.

There where a few other little things but very little. 10bhp wont win you a race as a less powerfull car with a lighter body or better tyres or shorter gearing could beat a more powerfull car.

If your looking to improve your cars performance have a read up on simple breathing mods in my BIG exhaust thread and BID induction thread.

Like mentioned above a change in airfilter to one that is protected from the engine bays warm air ie Heat Soak will help, good quality exhaust system will also improve performance. Look to a desent set or front tyres and maybe a decent clutch (when its time to replace yours) as you can have all the power in the world but if you cant put it down you might aswell just go home

To be honest, with mods it seems to make the car sluggish imo.

I've also noticed it, and mine has BMC, manifold etc... And still it doesnt seem to have great accelaration concidering standard models.

Depends what year the other vtr is as the later mk1's had the 90bhp silver top engines too.

If you have an open piperx filter, that wont do you any good.

The thing with tuning is you normally sacrifise one area to gain in another.

No one mod will improve the car fully across the specturm with out losing something.

Basic mods wont do much mate, filter, zorst etc, one step further will see you results.
