QUERIES: Wheel/Hub Spacers

  1. #1
    Hola saxp amigos,

Right i dont know much about spacers atall (except their primary job) so i need some advice.

I want to fit some 20mm spacers to the front 2 wheels to widen their stance a little.
    1. Is it alright to space the fronts and not the backs etc or should all 4 be spaced equally?
    2. Whats a hub centric spacer?
And finally can anyone reccommend me some spacers / retailers, as i said i dont know an awful lot about them or where to get them / get longer bolts / get spacers which bolt on separately etc etc so any other info you think is relevent fire away!

    Muchos gracias, adios

(Sorry, im just back from Mallorca )

Hubcentric spacers are the best thing you can do..

The spacer bolts to the hub then, using another set of bolts, your wheel bolts to the spacer..So you end up with 8 bolts per wheel..4 bolting the spacer to the hub and four bolting the wheel to the spacer..

Alot of rally cars use them..they are very safe compared to normal spacers..

When i was in belgium i noticed the Saxo kit Cars on the back had huuggee ones!!

The best ones to get are the Eibach Pro Spacer..

I take you're running the VTS wheels arent you man? in which case slapping on some 20mm spacers should not be done as you'll be way outside the tolerance limit of the hub.

Hub centric refers to a spacer that has a lip about the spindle so that the wheel can be located properly... explained that crap.

    Cheers for the reply James

Ads, Yeh i am running VTS wheels, how risky is it to space them though? I know alot of the foreign guys space their VTS wheels out and i havent heard much in the way of problems, i'd consider replacing any components which would be under greater stress due to the spacing.

I get what you mean with the hub centric now aswell so i'll definatly go for them, & the 8 bolt per wheel method too.

I personally wouldnt go beyond the offset tolerance...

not sure on what gets knakered though....

    hub barings?
    power steering?

    clueless.

I have spoken to a rally prep guy who uses them on some of the rally cars he prepares and they dont give problems on a rally car..

They may shorten the life of your wheel bearings..Instead of them lasting about 100k for example they may only last 60 or 70k..Not really an issue imo..

Also you dont have to worry about them falling off and shit..Eibach test theirs for fatigue tests etc so they are dead safe..

Yeh steering would have a bit more strain on it i suppose and probably the bearings too but i dont mind fitting new hubs when i do it, iv replaced almost every other suspension component within the last year trying to cure my knock anyway.

I'll be fitting new polybushes around the time they go on aswell. Wouldnt mind some input from someon whos runing outside the std offset & see how they are getting on, or some of the foreign guys.

Well the Eibachs only seem to go upto 15mm butH&R do sets of 20mm, im not sure whether theres are the 8 bolt type or the extended 4 bolt

Companies like motorsport world seem to have unbranded sets aswell, what do you reckon they are like?

iv'e got full set of 25mm hubcentric spacers and full set of 40mm hubcentric spacers if you intrested...
  12. #12
I dont want to go any more than 20mm sorry nimbin because im just pushing the ofsets right out the windows since im using the standard VTS alloys.

Can anyone tell me whats safer... Using 8 bolts to secure one wheel & spacer or using extended 4 bolts?

    8 bolts!!

Longer bolts become weaker then can snap..

Eibach do upto 40mm per side iirc..

    Search harder..

    Sorry

I was under the impression that 8 bolts were stronger but i read on one of the eBay shops that you *werent* to use 8 bolts after 15mm or thicker spacers

But extended bolts isnt really an option for me since i havent ever seen extended bolts with the citroen/pug style of tapered end

    Cheers again James

Also its the rear wheels on a saxo that sit further in to the arches than the fronts so it would make sence to put spacers on the rear.....
