VTS Gearbox Speeds

  1. #1
Just fitted a newer VTS gearbox to my VTS, not 100% if it is one, had it on an airfield and it used to be able to hit 115 no probs and continue to 120 but seems to struggle after 100.

does 60 in 2nd at 7k revs maybe a bit more
around 80 in 3rd not sure where revs were but were high
    then 100 at 5k revs in 5th

Anyone know what speeds it should be doing etc?
  2. #2
    my 90bhp model does like
    1st - 30
    2nd - 60
    3rd - 80
    4th - 100
    5th - unsure

All tested on private land with owners concent. Hope this helps

cool cheers for input, the box has been sat around doing nowt so would have thought it would be stiffened up, runs nicely i was suprised

I think you should be able to make 90mph in 3rd. I'm fairly sure I could hit 95 'ish at 7800.
  9. #9
i thought the limiter was around 7250, so how do you hit 7800?
  10. #10
Different cam shafts and re-programed ECU.

oh right, so standard the limiter is 7250 then?
  12. #12
That seems to be the case mate. I'm not 100% sure, but I think that's correct. On the stock cam shafts, you don't need it any higher anyway...
  13. #13
yeah pretty sure 90 approx 3rd.

i get near enough 120 in 4th and off the clocks in 5th, not saying this is real speed as it obviously not just going on what the clocks say, autobahn before anyone asks
  24. #24

Here's a link to some really good info on this subject:

    http://www.saxosportsclub.com/Forums...c/t=17814.html

Looks like 115mph is the max for 4th gear on normal limiter.

  32. #32
    It does help...

Just check your speed while bouncing it off the limiter in each gear...
  33. #33
And yes, that sounds about right.

That’s exactly the same as the spreadsheet I sent you! Just change the rpm and it will tell you what speed your doing in each gear! At 3000rpm in 5th you will be doing 60mph

Where’s this airfield btw?? Wouldn’t mind a blast!!
  36. #36
why dont you just have a look at the code on your old box and see if it matches the 1 on your new box??

    cos am too lazy

does 115 in 4th well just over 115
  39. #39
is this what the speedo says or is it measured properly? My VTS is totally standard and it does 120mph in 4th without much bother, although thats what the speedo says I'm guessing its a little less than that really...
  40. #40
ive got a vtr box in my vts and the speedo goes off the clock in 5th. it reads bout 73 on limit in 2nd
  41. #41
That's the last box you want in you VTS... Why have you done that?

Yeah that’s right… those are the actual speeds you are going… the speedos aren’t that accurate. An indicated 120mph in 4th sounds about right

You got your clutch adjusted yet Steve?? Sounds like you’ve got a VTS box I wouldn’t worry about it!

no i cant get it set right, can do height of pedal but clutch kicks in too late
Was speaking to mechanic and he said will be alright after a while just with it being new!
busy reseting ecu as idle is a bit rough, as went out and drove it without it reuniting itself after the battery being d/c'd for a few days
Also it revs way past 7250rpm

lets have a blast on the air field lol up morpeth way?
