Reluctant 1st Gear

  1. #1
I don't know why but my VTR's first gear seems a bugger to engage sometimes. I really have to force the bastard, but I don't like doing this.

What could this be a sign of? Or am I just being a numpty?

Mine can be like that sometimes..I dont worry about it.lol

try greasing all the gear linkages, they just pop off grease them pop them back on

I thought maybe the gearbox was f*cked?

    Anyone else got this?

I think it's probably cos I'm still getting used to the car. Used to drive a 1 litre Fiesta lol.

Mine used to do it on the 1.1.... It was practically impossible to go into it at anything under 10mph... but then other times it was fine...!

    same as mine lol.

sorry to thread hi-jack but, why when the clutch is in and say you doin 40-50, you put your car in first (clutch down) it will still scream?

no i havnt done it, witnessed it though

Mines the same m8. I think it needs to be lubed up as said. But not to worry as you arent the only one experiencing it!

My car is reluctant to go in reverse but it's O.K after double decluctching but I think my gearbox is fu***d lol

no this is just a common thing on most cars. my car does it, i remember my driving instructors car used to do it and mums ka does it too. just take your foot off the clutch, then put foot down again, 9/10 this works for me

you need to adjust the clutch cable mine was doign it and i got stuck at a set of traffic lights on a dual carrige way.. if you look down to the right and side of the engine theres a liek hinge thing with a wire going to it and two bolts on it tighten the bolts about 5 turns and that will do it.. theres nothign wrong with your gear box's its your clutch not dissengaging properly.. mine goes it perfect now. try it before taking things apart

sorry not to bolts the wire goes into a bolt after it has passed thought the linkage.. it has two nuts on itone a lockign nut and the other is the one you need to turn.. for the first time you may need to use mold grips to stop the bolt twisting while you tighten the nuts.
