106 GTi and plans to modify for performance - Help needed

  1. #1
Iv been thinking alot recently and after the 207GTi post i made i know that i dont want a 15k+ loan at 20

What i would like to do is to buy a mint 2002-ish 106 GTi for about 4 or 5k and spend some money on performance mods and making it look the part aswell (2-3k) and plan to keep it as a fun car for when i do buy another car.

I want to go down the N.A route so the question is:

What do I have and how much is it going to cost me?

    Thanks in advance!

Suspension and brakes for under a grand. Bushes, GRP Ns and GTi 6 Brakes. Make sure suspesion arms are not knackered.

Another 1k on exhaust system, fpr, filter and water pump, and all the tensioner in prep for the cams.

Then 1k on some cams (your choice ) and the ecu remap.

brakes depends on if you keep standard wheels tbh, gti6 fit behind 15s, 206gti are 266 and would fit behind the standard 14s on a gti, probs cost bout the same anyway

you also have the luxury if you get an s2 of having a 24mm arb

Thats the one. You can get a 3.5 Fuel Pressure Regulator out the back of a VTR or you can get a 4.5 GMC unit for around £60.

    good help there bullit

colin - thought that the 4.5 was too much? 3.5 maybe better but sure i read that the vts is 3.0 and that ones perfect for it, not much point in upgrading?
  20. #20
You don't need to change the fuel regulator. Besides, the standard injectors on a GTI / VTS are only good for 165 - 170 BHP anyway.
