Adding Extra BHP (for a novice!)

  1. #1
    Hi,

I recently bought a VTS, which already had a cat conversion and a viper induction kit. I posted before about adding some extra BHP to it and i was given ideas on adding a 4 branch manifold, new exhaust etc.

I am a total amature when it comes to cars so im looking for a bit more information on it. 1st of all ive finally got myself a budget, which is a nice £1000.

Now first question. I have read about the BMC enclosed induction kit, is this better then the viper one i currently have?

    2) 4 branch manifold etc. What parts would i need to purchase for this? and what are the best ones to get?

Any links to parts would be very helpful aswell! rather then just saying names of things as i really dont have a clue.

And would i have much left of my £1000 after those conversions? If so, what else should i be looking to do to improve my BHP.

Ive read the FAQs on engine tuning so im just looking for more detail here, please dont be scared to talk to me like a dummy as it may make me understand you more!

    Thanks

    Nick

hears the deal buddy, call cituning, 0115 939 3535, they can help you out alot, just tell them what you want to do! friendly2

The BMC ind kit is good although! as an alternitive you may want a "green" induction kit, as BB tuning saw a +14bhp Increase on a vtr!!!! just wiv the filter alone!

Kent or Piper cams... which ever you prefer

In in the same boat wiv £1k to spend! reasd my post on
    bhp info is in there.

just get on the blower to cituning, ask for a quote on a 4 branch manifold, ind kit (bmc/green) & fast road cams... ask if there is anything else you will need to get to fit them!

There's dousons of places for tuning

    Fromair filters

    To egausts

But what do you realy want to do with your car is up too you!

Many peepz just start off with getting a forced induction cone shaped!!!

But then you could get nitrous oxide, turbo, supercharge, camshafts, pistons, throtle bodies etc etc.

But the max thing you could do to get big bhp is get an engine converstion witch is where you change your engine to a more power full 1!!!

There's plenty of peepz on hear that you can ask about engine modz on hear!!!

alex changing an engine to a more powerful one isnt always the answer.

www.gmcmotorsport.co.uk have a good read on there nick it has loads of information and there products are pretty much second to none.

To fit a new manifold you may have to get an oil filter moving kit which gmc sell BUT i dont know if this applies to mk2 vts'.

I personally would get rid of the viper due to its construction. The filter is encased in metal with that silly carbon fibre tape around it, the problem is that the metal casing gets hot and absorbs the heat which in turn basically wraps your filter in a nice hot blanket

Hi, thanks for your replies, i have found the GMC site very interesting.

I think ill start simple, so first ill look at the air filters. On the GMC website the airfilter page gives alot of info, it says

"We have just finished developing, in conjunction with GREEN, a look alike copy of the Citroen works air filter system for the VTS /VTR and will also fit the 106 as shown below."

then has a picture below it. Whats that exactly?

Probly an air ffilter witch looks like the citroen 1 but wil also be able to be fitted in to a 106!!!

Look at simo's car article coz he has had major modz to his engine and his is at 190sumet bhp!!!

i to want more power 4 my 02 reg vts. got the magnex cat back exhaust and viper induction kit so it sounds like it has more presence
gonna get a turbo conversion and even though they cost upwards from £5000 inc fittin think that it is gonna b well worth it. dp motorsport quote 240bhp from their conversion and cituning when i asked them said that their gonna b workin on a converion but not till next year.
so much u can do, but in the end its all to do with money was going to part ex my vts + £5k to buy a scoobie but then thought how many scoobies do u c on the road nowadays 2 a vts turbo....... it would b 1 of a kind.

Well very few peepz have turboed there vts's!!!

your gona be 1 of the most powerful sax's in the uk if you do get a turbo and laodz of othere engine modz!!!

sounds gd but i wouldn't get the scooby coz it will cost a bom to insure with tones of modz!!

tell me bout it, just over £2000 fully comp 4 a scoobie though got a quote from adrian flux 4 a vts turbo and lookin at £1500 thereabouts.droppin it 50mm and all other work is gonna b on the engine. so no one will know but me ha ha that is untill i leave them 4 dead at the lights
just bought some tarox 6 pots not bad 4 £750.just got to have them fitted, whenever will i find the time (2morrow as it happens)
