Mounts and Bushes advice

  1. #1
Right so I've snapped a bolt on my drivers side top mount and I think it was cracked to start with anyway sooo... I've decided to upgrade my mounts and bushes all in one.

Now I've been doing a bit of research on here and ssc.

I've come up with the following list:

    Powerflex front ARB mounts £8.95
    Powerflex lower engine mount £23.95
    Polyrace front wishbone mounts £8.74
    Polyrace rear beam mounts £9.52
    Group N top mounts £27.69
Group N rear wishbone mounts £88.90

Is there anything else that I should consider?

    Thanks
    scott

if you go on ebay you can get powerflex bushes engine mount front arb mount all in one pack, cost 85 for lot

powerflex would be the easiest option but I don't want to comprimise now and have to upgrade later on. Powerflex aren't very good apparently in comparison to polyrace and the group n options.

polyrace are best for front wishbone and rear beam.

    powerflex for arb.

metal rear wishbone bushes (group buy on rallye reg atm)

and pugsport mounts, rather than polyflex engine mount imo.

    Is this for the 1.1?
If so vtr/vts wishbones use different bushes to the 1.1, so i dont think you could use the polyrace or group n wishbone bushes.

thought it was just the ARB that differed on the models.

id fit VT bones if this is the case on track etc..

Trust me mate they do, have a look on 106 parts.
Theirs the base model wishbones(which take different bushes), and the sporty ones (gti/rallye/vtr/vts etc...)

pfft. well I'll just do the top mounts for now and then I'll look into that. I thought that they were all the same though.

    check the wishbone,

as said, id upgrade the wishbones anyway, plenty of 'sports wishbones' about anyway

    what difference do they make?

The mounts and bushes tighten the car up, reducing delays in weight transfer etc etc, spongyness and old man syndrome type stuff.

    bushes do that?

Ive used polyrace & group n bushes on my 106 and there is a noticeable difference in the handling, everything just seems that little bit tighter!

'tighter' is a bit vague... can you elaborate dude... what do you actually notice?

Slightly less roll, more responcive steering & a firmer ride. But my car is 10 years old so the original bushes had most of there life taken out of them.

there is less flex in the suspension mounts which translates to sharper handling. (after being uprate uprated) In cornering / maneuvers the energy is transfered directly to suspension / chassis which are areas that you can tune. Makes for sharper more predicable handling..

On topic the ultimate set up would be Group N engine mounts, rose jointed linkages and polyrace mounts for the ARB etc. I fashioned ones out of Nylon for the TCAs on the 205 Rallye I built.

ill sell you some wishbones off a vts for a good price and an antiroll bar to match

Anybody heard of powerflex black? Think there the bushes im going to go for as there harder than ordinary powerflex purple bushes. Im guessing they will be on par with something like the polyrace bushes.
  25. #25
dibz get polyrace bushes, theyre well known to be great bushes and cheap.

the only ones i wouldnt get are polyrace arb ones - irc they dont fit to good lol
