Ideas on tires? Piiics!!!

  1. #1
Ive been urged not to go with the 195/40/16 tires for my saxo because they cause "apparently" geometery problems and incorrect speed readings?
    Anybody got advice?
Pics of alloys with both the 40 and 45 profile would be muuch appreciated!!.

    Thanks!!!

The speedo already over reads your speed so fitting larger alloys (with larger tyres) will make your speedo more accurate.

A 195/40/16 tyre has almost the same rolling circumference as a 195/45/15 so it will be almost the same as having the standard VTS alloys. 195/45/16 will create a larger rolling circumference thus a more accurate speedo but you run the risk of them rubbing in the arches etc if the car is lowered.

Alrite then cheers mate, im only going to lower the car to fill the arches, ive been advised this wont rub, but if it does i guess ill just have to do some modifications to the arches.
    Thanks for the help.
Pictures would still be great please ppeeople!!

im down 60mm on 16s with 40 profiles, no scrubbing even with a full car,

the actual full wheel size is only very slightly bigger than 15's on 45 profiles. so id expect 195/45/16 to be even further out if your putting it like that

i wouldnt worry about it mate, it works out at about 10mph out at 100 mph so around a 1mph average of every 10mph. but its a lesser reading so it isnt exactly going to get you into trouble as youll be going slower than what the speedo says

But the J/ET on your rear wheels may be different to the J/ET on the rear wheels of the the person thats asking.
So stating yours is fine, may not help everyone.

For example; Your 16" wheels could be 6.5J on the rear which is 6 and a half inch in diamiter which will sit nicely in the arch with 40 profile tyres. Now for my wheels, there 9J which is 9 inches and with a 40 profile tyre I'll be lucky if they don't rub. (Hope this makes sense)

I've noticed alot lately (not you danny) but people say this wheel size/tyre size is fine with 'X' amount of lowering etc. Nobody seems to take into consideration the J or ET of the wheels, which play a massive part in whether the wheels will fit/rub etc.

way too much complex info for me there lol

i would have thought 195 width would be ok but 205 would be trouble

thats about as far as my knowledge goes tbh

    Hehe, thats tyre sizes.

195 is the mm size of the tread of the tyre, not including the wheel. So for me to put 195 on my 9J I will get a stretched tyre. But for you to put them on you won't, because the wheel isn't as big in diameter. Now the tyre wall (40/45) profile is the percentege of the tread size, so a 40 profile tyre on say a 215 tyre will be bigger.

    And just to help with Js;

    |------| < 6J

    |---------| <9J

    Make sense? Lol.
