Roll Cage is it difficult

  1. #1
i want to remove my back seats was thinking of fitting a roll cage or if anyone else has a better idea that will look good and won't cost thousands i would be glad to hear from you.

how easy are they to fit?

how good do they look in a saxo?

how much am i looking at paying for one?

    where can i get em?

    i have a 2001 saxo vtr.
  2. #2
A Show cage will cost you roughly £100 and are a piece of piss to fit, will take you 10 minutes. They look pretty cool but do fuck all for saftey.
  3. #3
i think it looks pretty cool

  4. #4
where did you get your cage from bullit, and how much was it?
  5. #5
show cages look shite, everyone knows theyre shite and you look like a tool having one.

a proper omp/sd/sparco cage is between 300-500 for an average one.

the one in bullits pic is no longer made, the bolt in type now needs box sections welded in to bolt to and goes through the dash.
  6. #6
sorry, what needs to be welded on?

so there isn't a straight bolt in one?
  7. #7
new OMP cages, need box sections welding to the shell, the cage then bolts to these.

A/B sections, the C section mounts/welds to where the rear beam mounts.

the one that is shown in pic just bolts to floor through reinforcing plates and then the rear arches, OMP no longer produce this type of cage.

jeeves, whiteslag vts had the later one, have a look at his pics
  9. #9
oh right, i thought the ones on ebay that say bolt in, just bolted in.

so regards to the welding, do you weld bits to the car or the cage?

    sorry if i sound retarded.
  10. #10
worth commenting BOLT in does also need welding on old cage.

the reinforcment plates need welding to the shell.

but its better than box sections

as said, you weld box sections to the shell, the cage bolts to this.

It needs to be welded to give it support. Saxos are made out of paper so in a crash it would just tear the floor off the car to be honest.

You could probably get somewhere to fit it for you for £150-£200.

Looking at around 700-800 in total including the cage. You have to account for spraying/powder coating as well if you're not going for a safety devices cage.

so this cahe for example, would need reinforcing plates welded to the car and that would be it?

i can get a cage powder coated for £40 and i'd fit it myself.

i believe thats the one whiteslag vts has too.

yeh I suppose, I'm as much a style whore as a track slag though so if I get a rollcage I'll probably get it flocked

am really considering ordering one when I get paid. Do you know anyone that could weld it all in for me?

as said ALLLLLLLLLLL CAGES NEED WELDING of some sort, even my bolt in one (old type) needs the welding of plates, just now like the one shown needs box sections welding in, and the dash cutting.

snewham i dont know anyone who could weld other than a company like carworx/pug P

looks like it. bear in mind your gonna be chopping the dash back and stripping all the interior out
  18. #18
    yeah i know, stripped ftw.

can cut the dash exact to match where the cage penertrates.
  19. #19

You're learning! You'll not need it if there are no passengers when you crash lol
  31. #31
even if there was a passenger, with buckets and a harness they wont go that far forward!!

bulits track/pod car is hubba hubba! get a cage like that if you want one (real deal) show cages don't do anything for the car!

the only people impressed by show cages are 10 year olds/slags and stevie wonder.

although i suspect even he could tell that they are a heap of shite from rubbing the upright, although he may confuse it slightly with ali g

No idea mate. I think it's a modified OMP one or an early SD cup cage, again modified
  37. #37
I wouldnt get anything else than an SD cage.

My friend is getting a batch of PROPER cages (106 cup) soon but SD have put there prices up to £710.

    o another one then..

OMP cages are FIA approved.... nothing wrong with them.

SD just come pre finshed and look better, they both pass the same regs.

SD are not the only PROPER cages as you put them

its totally different to any SD cage.

as said when you first fitted it all the feet/doorbar mounts are the same as every OMP cage ive seen.

i suspect its one of the more expensive OMP cages that people dont know about much because most saxo owners dont feel the need for additional cross bars and reinforcing.
