sounds like its eaten too many vtechs

    is the problem consistant?

to start off with id check the throttle linkage, but by the sounds of it sounds like the ISV might be on its way out. id take off the throttle body elbow and have a look and give it a good clean up.

also check the engine bay for any obvious errors, vaccum hose disconnected etc..

    okay major development,

jus figured out that it only happens whenever the car starts to heat up.was driving about all night and the temp was staying bang on in the middle then i pulled in to see if she would do it again and she did.just before the fan cuts in she revs up a wee bit over 1000.jus enough to feel it.then when i revved the engine up an took my foot off she stayed at 2000revs.i pulled off so that i could take her home and barely got the car up to revs without stalling.then i drove about to cool her down to see if it would make a difference and stopped up at my house an the car was completely fine the temp had went down and was idling at the usual mark{jus under 1000revs}.let her idle for a few minutes and the same thing happened again.

havent looked under the bonnet yet but can anyone help me

Idle control valve? That would make the revs stick. You can take them out and clean them up as they get a bit shitty

thanks mate ill take a look 2moro.where abouts in the engine is the idle control valve?.

would the engine temp rising effect its way of working or how come this only happens when the car is overheating

Cars overheating aswell? Maybe another problem aswell then

Idle control valve is on the throttle body, two 20 torx screws i think
