Lower Strut Brace...

  1. #1
Is one of these worth buying?
I have an upper one, but what's the benefits of the lower one?
Would i notice the difference, or would it all be in my head? lol
    Cheers
    David

I would like one too and i have been told that the lower one is better for performance
  3. #3
No mate, its worth getting one, I have one and it makes more of a difference than the upper brace. Anyone on here will tell you the same.

    Cheers

I get understeer since i put my upper one on (loosened it off so it has no effect), will a lower one correct this?
  5. #5
Nice one, might get me one then.
Get my buckets in and the lower Brace.
Just had a Drop link done.
Eventually get a new Rear Disc Beam and Straight through exhaust, Sorted! lol
    Cheers mate.

haha i don't even know what under and oversteer are! haha
  7. #7
If the car kicks out when you steer into a corner, I believe thats over-steer. And under steer is the opposite. Hopefully Ste that should help your problem.

    Cheers

    Oh right..
Well i find the back end very twitchy to be fair, but thats about it on mine!
Back end on lowered saxo's sucks, though i don't know how to set the Spax Shocks i have up.. lol
  9. #9
ive got one feels better imo.

    easy to fit inal.
  10. #10
lower one is in theory 10X better than upper on a saxo due to the way the strut tops are.

the lower wishbone brace should have more of a direct result on point to point steering imo.

That is very odd, Its should not be doing that. All they do is slightly stiffen the shell. Handy to help stop your windscreen cracking when you have sticky rubber on and hard suspension.

The lower brace really helps when you have a lot of grip and very good brakes. In the AX at least you can get the shell to flex so much it starts rubbing the inner arch. The cars just ends up wondering all over the place if you dont to anything to stiffen things up. Some of the big boost turbo people even get it under power.

But for the most parts they should not make any significant change to the neutral balance on the car under most situations. Perhaps there is something more going on with your car? Did you make any other changes at the same time? its normally things such as tyres, tyre pressures, weight distribution, ride heights, spring rates, damper rates and role bars that make the most notable difference.
  12. #12
deffo get one can feel the difference all right must have imo lol
  13. #13
lower are alot better than upper, worth the buy..
  14. #14
There is a decent deal on the OMP ones on ebay. You get the upper and lower in the same package. Thats what I got and I felt a massive difference. Defo go for it!!
  15. #15
ayone know how low they hang under the car? im thinking of getting 1, but with my car being so low i dont wanna be smacking/scraping it all the time, cheers
  16. #16
i had one at 50 it was fine carlos

be aware of 106parts/ybracing/bloomfield and yates/strutbracer and what ever other names they use when getting struts braces, often then dont have the parts in stock and you could be waiting ages to get it
  17. #17
Defo feel the difference, well worth the money!

Mine looks to hang really low, but not hit anything of it on the normal roads. Hit a few big stones when went on a dirt track though.

Can see it hanging in this pic.

bet it smelt of blood and corruption! whats the last line of the post on about?
  24. #24
guessed at how low the car was

*looks around to high five someone, realises everyone else is in bed, sits back down*

Was going to get on and buy one, but a jumped up copper came over to me tonight, after i'd been parked for an hour and a half, and offered his hand to me with a £30 fine in for my number plates.
He let me off the sidelights, so a trip to Halfords tomorrow is in order, and no Strut brace to come.
Thinking of just selling it now to be honest.
  26. #26
you got fined for french number plates??

    trowbridge coppers are bastards though
  27. #27
    Yes i did.
    Warminster Copper.
Tucked away in a little carpark he came round, drove past, reversed and did me there and then! bastard...
He then had the audasity to tell me about my own car, and tell me that my fogs were wired up to my sidelights, and that its illegal, when clearly they weren't!
He let me off the sidelights, but he didn't want to.
He then said to all my mates afterwards, that he knew it looked good with them, he didn't want to cause any problems, and didn't mind us being where we were, as we weren't causing any problems... my question is, if there's no problem, why go there when there's other carparks full of people handbraking their cars round in them etc etc.
    Pissed one off!
  28. #28
argue the point... they are NOT illegal
  29. #29
my mate gone done speeding by a warminster copper, and my mate took it to court, but every day before the court case the copper rang him up saying he will get him banned if he went to court, mate still too him to court and when it got there the "evidence" had be lost. lmao. bastards
  30. #30
What?? Fooking warminster coppers. Sorry to hear about that Dan. That copper sounded like he was just bored or something.

    Lol frankie that is madness.

i would agrue with that. will notice a difference to the top by a long way.
  32. #32
upper and lower strut braces are not really there to change understeer/oversteer characteristics.

Steering and handling should be sharper as the strut braces cause energy to be transfered through tyres and suspension rather than flexing the chassis. This is especial noticeable when you have high quality suspension and sticky tyres.

I suspect that the oversteer above is due to too much speed / tyre quality rather than an adverse effect of the strut brace

just illegial to the style police, lexus light plates.......

argue tht point! worth it mate! u shudnt lose anything in doin so! havin a upper and not a lower will tht not bend the chassis over time?????
  35. #35
    Not worth argueing.
Plus, car's for sale now - 2 new plates, and french ones included!
They made me change the bluey tinted sidelights too, so they've gone.
Still, not going to be my problem soon!
Pain in the arse about the fine tho! lol
    Cheers
  36. #36
Oh yeah - That warminster copper that kept ringing your mate above re: the speeding...
Total bollocks, i'd say thats harassment.
Call him back and tell him 'keep ringing me i'll make you lose your job' - see how many more phone calls you get! lol
Still, they think theycan get away with it till it all goes wrong!
