Technical forum MODERATOR(s) wanted

  1. #1
To further improve the information available to all within Saxperience technical-related forums, I would like to appoint a number of forum moderators.

If you feel you have the motivation, passion and drive to fill this position, please get in touch.

If, as a contributor/reader, you would like to suggest someone who you would like to fill this role, please make your suggestions in this thread.

    Thanks,
    Simo

If it's to do with Problems with Saxo's / Engine and performance,
    perhaps someone like itsafastworld..

he seems to speak the truth tbh
  3. #3
yer and then probably predator for interior exterior mods and general modding
  4. #4
Yeah i agree with Soulless..Ryan knows his stuff tbh..

I wouldnt mind doing it aswell.. I'm on here 24/7 and have good knowledge on saxo's and have done quite abit of work to mine so have experience etc..
  5. #5
i would be more than happy to help. im a quilified NVQ 3 motor technician and have worked on more saxo than i wish to remember. I have untold knowledge of saxos
  6. #6
Yea Ryan seems to know his stuff, although he can be quite blunt sometimes he seems a nice enough bloke

it's what you need, plus it makes me laugh sometimes.

On the topic of moderators, who is SE's moderator?
  8. #8
He's a sound bloke if you just take the blunt/sarcy comments as a laugh..Actually brightens the forum up abit tbh..

  12. #12
    Soullous for Moderator!!! :d
  13. #13
i would also like to put myself forward, if theres ever a vacancy in the joke section
  14. #14
Ryan knows nothing about engines he always texts me and asks me

theres a few who know there stuff so should be more than one i think

ryan, bullit, williams, campdavid all know there stuff, cant think of anyone else off the top of my head at the mo
  15. #15
Williams defo for me and maybe me
  16. #16
i agree with the above for their knowledge but it also helps if its someone who spends alot of time on here, knows the rules and whats utter crap to be removed.
  17. #17
leeroy does know his stuff but hes a cunt and spams
  18. #18
    cheers matt
  19. #19
I don't really think it needs to be someone who is a guru on the subject just someone who can keep the forums in order, prevent arguments etc, is trustworthy and online regularly..
  20. #20
think its better if someone who knew there business was a mod tbh it makes complete sense
  21. #21

i think a bit of both tbh doesnt have to be a guru just not a total novice
  22. #22
    I'd happily offer my services...

    Alex
  23. #23
Il be honest, Ryan told me it would be the highlight of his career, hes always wanted to be some kind of mod on the internet, Olympics come and go, but a mod on the internet, thats where its at he told me.
  24. #24
persnally i think simo you should make a test paper/email and get people to answer the relevant questions then people can put there money where there mouth is .

i can easily say look i have a dam degree in saxo's engines (total rubbish like lol) but its all about getting the right person for the right job and i think putting a proper test on will solve the problem.

people who are serious about wanting the position would open there arms to do a test to show what they know about the car.
  25. #25
ill be up for the job simo

    think hesslevtr is too
  26. #26
for me its gotta be someone who stands out and is known for

1 - answering these general question
2 - is well known on this site and trusted
  27. #27
*waves* as discussed with scott a while back simo.

im more than willing to put input into moderating technical side of things, as i am trying to put alot of work into the technical side of forum.
  28. #28
and matt stop spamming ffs! i think this is actually a useful thread for a change not for you to spam!
  29. #29
I don't like ryan... he is gay without power.

    Hesslevtr and pred ftw.
  30. #30
My money's with Ryan, he is but lets not hold that against him. Lets face it he knows what he's talking about, i've sent him numerous pm's in the past to ask questions, and if i ever had a problem with anything and i was unsure about something, the first name that creeps into my head is Ryan aka Itsafastworld85!

so im going with Ry FTW!

RY, You can make cheques payable to O.Seamer, thanks
  31. #31
i gotta agree with most people here ryan hessle and pred come to mind straight away an there are a few others of course.

which reminds me i aint seen hessle post in a wee while where is he??

I have starkies saxo so it would make sense

I wouldnt mind helping out being a mod, though would be better in the problem/queries section, as i work on citroens all day long and know their common faults etc

HAha using my cheque line - after the various pms i helped you via

Itsafastworld knows his stuff so i think that he would be perfect for the role, however i have seen that AXracing has some very good knowledge especially when it comes to turbos etc. He hasnt been on the site that long though.

    Itsafastworld FTW

AX racing is well respected on many forums, as said he has only just started really using saxP.

he has alot of great knowlege and its good that he is sharing it on here now tbh.

8v engines and turbos ive read alot of his posts.

    I dont like Ryans replys...tbh

    Comes across very arsey

Might not be in person... but what he replys makes me think otherwise

what would you rather have someone coming across a lil arssy but knows what there on about or someone totally awesome but know F**k all about a car LOL.

    I rest my case.

you have to take things with a pintch of salt sometimes with certain members on here its an easy thing if you cant do that then its you with the problem.

as i always say to ppl.

Im glad someone talks about me behind my back cos i dont think F**k all about them lol. (there isa moral to that sentance but il leave you all to figure it out for yourselfs)
  38. #38
Yep and there is doing so you dont look a complete arse or come across as look at me i think i know everything

    Selective words are needed

i take the piss as does everyone else on here. I give out adivce and help where i can.

    No problem there at all

I may have just taken you the wrong way, but thats my opinion

I dont mind people having opinions and your very much intitled to it dude, its what life is all about. it would be one very boring place if everyone was a 'yes sir' rather than being a bit contraversial/disagreed.
  42. #42
ryans my recommendation, he knows his stuff.

    good bloke too.
  43. #43
i'll watch this space then tbh
  44. #44
as said really. ryan for me. and the end of the day he helps people no matter what. if it wasnt for him in here then the engine section wouldnt be what it is imo. same goes for pred and hessle, all of whom have put countless hours in to helping people for the good of the site. which basically what its all about
  45. #45
id like to also point out adsayer - inbetween spamming the fuck out of everything has some very relevant information on suspension geometry etc...

irc its his masters project. so theres a whole load of information to be gained from all users of this site.

aswell as more physics related stuff on gas speeds etc..

    so another consideration imo.
  46. #46
i'll voluntere myself. I've been here a few years now, and i have great presence felt all over the forum, its just not the same when im not logged on.

on a serious note - a mod doesnt have to be picked on "saxo knowledge" surely? isnt it about maintaining the smooth day to day running of the site, being able to sort out issues they are presented with...

for a general yes but for someone chosen is to not just mod but look after the technical sections then knowledge is needed. someones got to know whats works and what doesnt, what fits etc so false information isnt posted as much. etc. thus running smoother
  50. #50
Bullit replying to the same post twice, i like it.

I can understand the point of having someone who knows what they are doing moderating but is too much knowledge of a subject a good thing. Does it mean, say, that if someone asks a question and someone answer's it wrongly that the mod will come in, answer it, belittle the person who answered it wrong and then close it. I've always thought a mod is there to make sure the forum doesn't get out of hand?

I'd personally say people such as Adsayer, furioal, Pred are all quite level headed people on the forums. You don't really see them in the thick of a pointless e-argument.
  51. #51
Predator FTW!!(learnt the ftw saying now lol)
Anyways on a serious note, i do not kno anyone on this forum that first helped me besides predator. He is a helpful member, and as staff id say you would not be disapointed. He willl help anyone he can and is a source of countless information and has awesome how-to-guides. !!

why close a thread if youve corrected the information?
its no longer a discussion - which is what 95% of the threads are about.

the only threads that really need locking are the usual ebay shit ones, and ones which get repeated weekly.

thats tidying it up and making it run smoothly aswell as getting the correct information to the users required.
  53. #53
I definatly think Ryan should be mod as i have said before..He knows an awful lot and since i have been speaking to him on MSN i have learned alot..Not just about cars but photography too..He's a very handy chap to have about and he is on here an awful lot aswell, which i think is a huge deciding factor into choosing a moderator..

This is also a reason why i would like to have a moderator position as i'm on here everyday, i know more than enough about saxo's, i have first hand experience with the modding side of things etc aswell..

  54. #54
Ryan does know his stuff. Very knowledgeable about saxo's and about camera's as well. But (no offence at all mate) I don't like his replies to some people. He can come accross as a bit arsey and some users might get a bit frustrated. I am sure he is a sound guy in person though and I will be probally eating my words after meeting him at traxs.

Anyways I have known James_Bristol for nearly a year and quite regulary hang out with him. He has tought me a lot about the saxo in general. Which has proven to be very handy. So your probally thinking, hmm I will be voting for James. But your wrong, as he owes me £2 ahahaha.

Ok enough mumbo jumbo. Hands up for Ryan to be mod and then hands up for James? You know the rest
  55. #55
Cheers for the reply vince..Atleast someone thinks i am capable..LOL

  56. #56
a think simo should get the top 20 ppl for the job and then do a pole but only let ppl vote once though or they will be a bit of cheating going on ??? lol
  57. #57
adsayer, pred, furioal top 3 candidates get a pole on for them
  58. #58

which turns into a vote for your mate not who is actually capable for doing what is asked by the admin on the forum.
  59. #59
    Pred Gets My Vote
  60. #60
i think it should be Hesslevtr if he still knocks about. Knows pretty much everything about everything.
  61. #61
yeah Hessle was a bit of a legend..
not seen him on in a while.

pffffft, anyways Simo wanted a more technical mod (knows about Saxo's) by the looks of the description.
  62. #62
As long as whoever it is isnt a thread locking cock im not bothered tbh.....this part of the forum has been safe since i came lol
  63. #63
It shouldnt be restricted to just one

I have ryan on speed text so its ok if hes not mod but i know alot of people see his comments as arsey, but normally when he is, its a stupid question thats been asked or someones failed to see that hes joking, he knows all his stuff and is very helpful.

pred and hessle do know there stuff as well tho

i think there should be a few
  64. #64
    Me lol.

    EDIT.

I'd like to be one but im not on here alot. Ive learned so much about saxos and mainly from williams.

But I have first hand experience at building rally cars, drag bikes and american muscle cars.

I have a good knowledge of cars in general, as ive done NVQs etc, not just Saxos.

So I will put my name down to be a Moderator.

Oh and im NEVER in general chat or anything like that lol.
  65. #65
What would a "Tech mod" acctually do?

General moderation of the technical forums? In which case any responsible member could do it. Or would they moderate misinformation aswell & thus need pretty good technical knowledge.

I'll put my name forward for consideration. I tend to spend more time in the tech forums than the general ones anyway & i think my reputation comments will back that up too. Most of what i know, i've learned in here & the rest from working on my (poor) saxo

I'd say im a little less 'cliquey' than some of the other more obvious candidates too, which may or may not work well for me in a poll

    Mystic for president
  66. #66
...Ill put my name down for SE RMO
  67. #67
i'd be up for helping out

a key comment there, moderating a forum is about keeping the forum running smoothly, not locking threads for the sake of it (as in my experience the more threads get locked the less people are willing to post on the forums), not about being part of a group who are 'to cool for school'

id also like to comment that half of the people with derogative comments against me barely even post in this section lol!
  75. #75

At the end of the day the man is giving you the help and information up front. Ryan is just being truthful and giving you no B/S, if you ask a straight sensible techie question then he will give you an asnwer.

The only reason he may seem up it is because people just don't listen sometimes and shoose to ignore what is good advice.

At the end of the day what would you prefer good up front advice or shite nicey nicey bollocks?

No one ever listens to me, so I'll stay out of this one!

There's lot's of folk on here who've been very helpful, so if I was to vote for just one, I would feel somewhat bad about it I suppose.

It's a toughy, but I'm going to vote for Ryan. I think everytime he uses bad, condescending, abusive, obnoxious, and offensive wording, it’s been completely called for! Oh yeah, he knows a thing or two as well…
  85. #85

I totally agree with this… think there are from time to time quit a lot of fucktards that come into the technical sections and it gives saxos a bad name!

All the people who post about ebay chips, open filters, electric supercharges, spamming, people who boast, bhp questions and just randomly crap threads get on my tits!

I think that the less BS there is in a forum, more technically minded people are going to browse and post and the forum will become more useful for everyone.

They need to be put in their place and directed to a sticky rather than a pointless discussion. Its been getting better recently though

IMO there should be a few moderators who just cut out the BS. There are loads of people on here who are knowledgeable and consistently helpful and in need of a promotion…

Just to name a few: itsafastworld85, kamracing, axracing, williamsvts, stevenet15, toad, adsayer, hesslevtr, gabbastard, predator_vtr….

Just a few names that stick out as good candidates there are loads more though sorry if I didn’t mention you…

That’s from when I put that Gti engine in... cheers for the tips on that btw… if only you’d told me I didn’t need to take the front off before I’d actually taken it off lol made it easier though!

'Some' good discussion going on in here peeps.

The position(s) up for grabs do require a technical knowledge, as that is the main reason for the appointment... to have someone available to keep threads on track, to stop the promotion of bad advice, which more often than not people pick up, then try to pass on to others.

I'd like to develop a truly 'technical' aspect to the forum, for hard core tech-heads... but currently am not sure how this would integrate with the more general technical forums.

Its pleasing to see some of the candidates I had thought of, have put themselves forward.

Myself and Scott will discuss this in more detail and let you know whats going to happen.

Off the top of my head though, I'd say it's likely there will be 3 appointments in the tech forums... and maybe a few other changes thrown in too.

i totally agree with that as in some threads i have read posts that give totally wrong advice e.g lowering by notches and then thats passed on to one person and then they pass on to another and so on then everyone thinks lowering by notches is the right way when its not. So i thinks its a great idea that if we have 3 people assigned to help reduce bad advice it will benifit everyone

    I think...

Yates would be good for the job, seems to know what hes doing with his car
svennet as above, hes allways doing something with his car

hessle would be a good choice, but he hasnt been about much.. and im not a great fan

havn't seen much of itsafastworld but he seems to be favourute

i know fuck all bout engines

got stuck on brakes today, ryan didnt help me, leeroy didnt, it was williams that said wind the caliper
  133. #133
I have only got round to reading this thread and nominate anyone but me lol. But thanks for the nomination guys. I would tend to say avoid any one that is on here partly for a living. Such as engine tuners and tuning parts supplies. Whoever is picked it must be some one who really wants to or there is no point. Itsafasworld85 wants to so it I say let him. I think he would be quite good at it and not just take the piss.
