How much are a set of callipers/carriers worth,

how much are discs and pads likely to be?
  2. #2
Had to buy a carrier (306 GTI6) the other day, and it was £90 from Pug. So the caliper will be more than that!
  3. #3
I meant roughly second hand or what have you..
  4. #4
How long is a piece of string? It depends on the condition mostly. I would have thought for a set of 306 GTI 6 calipers on their own (in very good condition) would be worth between £150 - £175.
  5. #5
Okay thanks, and discs are roughly 70 quid? pads 30?
  6. #6
My discs were £180 and pads were £60. It's up to you if you want to run budget parts with them or not.
  7. #7
jesus christ, toad, you got a link in your progress to the discs part or will i have to hunt around it?
  8. #8
The discs are Tarox G88 (283mm) and the pads are Tarox "strada" fast road. I got them and also some Goodrodge braided hoses all from www.motorsportworld.co.uk

for my 206 GTi brakes (not 180) i paid

    Calipers £30
    Disc's £45
    Pads £28
    Total - £103 plus £45 fitting

    for my 306 gti-6 setup i payed:

£80 for the calipers and carriers
£30 for brand new oe discs
£15 for brand new oe pads
£4 for some 4 dot brake fluid
    £0 for fitting

    total: £129

still havent had time to fit them

best bet is to look around as the calipers were priced at 80-150 when i searched for them
  11. #11
mallboy fancy selling me your setup? ill give you 150.
  12. #12
Condition is important. What seems like a good buy could be completely useless... As the cost of getting them tip top would be 2 to 3 times more than you paid for them initially.
  13. #13
what should i look for Toad in condition wise?
  14. #14
    paid 120 for caliper
    50 discs
    60 pads
    10 fittin
  15. #15
You will have to have them in your hands to check...

If you get the chance, there's 2 main things. The carrier will have 2 bolt shaped pistons, each with a rubber boot around them. These must slide up and down freely, otherwise when the brake pedal is pressed, one side of the disc will not be properly in contact with the pad, and also, the pad might not come away from disc on one side.

The other main thing is the piston. You need to check that it is in good working order. It shouldn't stick at all, but it's not as easy to check. Probably the best thing you can do is look around it, and check for rust etc...

It's also worth checking the condition of the edges where the pads sit in the carrier. The edges need to be clean, and smooth, otherwise the pad will not move freely like it should do.

    Hope this help bud.

    ty Toad,

so it looks i should pay about 80-120 for callipers with carriers.
  17. #17
If they are tip top, they are worth more IMO. They would cost MUCH more brand new from Pug!
  18. #18
i think my Original brakes are okay, best ive ever felt in a Saxo for standard brakes..I just know theyre not really up too scratch, especially slowing down quickly from great speed a few times, get brake fade quite quickly.

++ ordered some nice new wheels and want a nice setup behind

There's a guy who's going to buy mine for £350. But that's with virtually new discs and new pads, and also Goodridge hoses. It's a fair price I think. Discs, pads, and hoses alone cost me £300.

I just paid 120 for refurbished and painted gti180 calipers with pads and discs, they werent new but in good condition. The £45 for braided hoses and £60 for fitting.

They were fitted today and they are all good.
