throttle body

hi iv got a mk1 vtr and was fitting an induction kit when i noticed on the butterfly in the throttle body had like a metal wedge on one side of it it looks pretty restrictive esp when the throttle is fully open! any ideas as to what this is!?

Is it like a half moon shap thing? As I noticed on my old quicky and my mates furio that they both had them. No idea what they are for though, although probably to restrict it a bit.

yeah you can see it if you open the throttle.

imagine a orange segment on half of the throttle butterfly

the left side is my expert drawing of the throttle body cut down the middle! closed and open! with the part im on about in red

and thats what it looks like when you open the throttle its only screwed to the butterfly im guessing its some kind of restriction what do you think about removing it!?

    cmon someone must know!

    i used to do them

    this is a standard one

this is one thats been ported out but not yet polished

if so then search for ported throttle body u will find out loads

is that a vtr throttle body?
  13. #13
does it make a noticeable difference? it looks like it will. thinking about it for my vts

Runs smoother and acceleration is very slightly improved

Small difference but worthwhile for the money bud

I did my own 206 one. Made the throttle much more sensitive and im sure it pulled better. But then again I also remove the plastic inlet manifold and removed all the plastic bures from when it was made! Defanatly worth doin but id do it my self personaly.

    First take the thing apart<

1, Remove one half of the throttle spindle
2, Countersink the fixing holes on the butterfly to take counter sunk screws
3, Knife edge one half of the butterfly
4, Knife edge the inlet faces of the throttle body
5, Smooth out the inlet with some sort of tool, I used a Dremle
6, Smooth it out further with wet and dry
7, Pollise it further with metal polish
8, Clean all compnents and re assemble

Id do a DIY jobby and spend some time on it over a wet saturday or summat

    Def worth doing yourself

any roller figured for before and after?

No dyno figure but over a set distance (on private roads ) From 10MPH start in 2nd gear to the next point I got 95mph. After doing the throttle body I got a top speed of around the 100MPH mark! That was changing at 5500RPM every change. A bit it and miss I know but the results were definatly repeatable. It definatly seamed more responsive to throttle movments all the way through the rev range!!!

not really an accurate test though considering that a lower ambient temp could do exactly the same thing.

its hard in the real world to prove gains.

Like I said, (A bit it and miss) but I can definatly say that it made the throttle more responsive to movments from my right foot

iv been doing them for three years now and have only ever had good feedback from them. i have a vts one on ebay at the minute. my username is 6abney.

you should never half the spindle on the vts throttlebodys as it makes it too weak. and knife egding the spindle does nothing apart from give you a dodgey idle and make your car really bad for town driving. iv done hundreads of these now and not only for saxos. for vauxhall redtops, v6 vectras, mondeos, saxos, puntos, scoobys and vw golfs inc. VR6's.

there is a lot to learn about what can and cant be ytaken off the internals of the throttlebody.

back to the vtr wedge. yes it can be removed and it makes a pretty big difference to how the car drives. however it leaves two holes in the butterfly which need to be bunged with 2 nut & bolts. the reson for the wedge is so that you have smooth accelleration when feathering the throttle during town driving. so basically with it on you have shite throttle response. once removed it transforms throttle response and removes a pretty big restriction to the air flowing into your inlet.

    Hi

I have a 1998/99 1.1 Saxo X. Recently it has had trouble ticking over when I start it, more often than not it will rev itself (up to about 1000/2000 RPM) when I stop and it chugs alot too. For example if I'm doing 40 and ease off the gas to slow down then back on again, there's a delay then it kicks, sometimes more than once. I've had someone take a look at it and they seem to think it's idle censors or may need a new throttle body.

Anyone had similar problems or know what this is? And what the £ damage could be?

jus ported and polished my throttle body and intake system on my mk2 saxo vtr, and i must say the difference in pull and throttle response is massive although i think i might have put the butterfly in slightly wrong as the throttle seems to be sticking when i let off but other than that definately worth it, only took me about 2 hours aswell... as for the question above my mates quicky was doing that and it turned out that his idle control valve was full of gunk, cleaned it all out and it was fine
