Lowering?

    I wanna lower my vtr but as Im fairly new to all this, I dont have a clue how to go about it and how much it will cost, could any one give me any advice about it?

    Do you want to lower your car for:

    Performance (handling) or Just the looks

    And how low do you want to go?

    Bit-a-both I would say, dont want it to low for speed bumps but I want it low enough to handle well and look good.

    Kam Racing and James Bristol are the guys you need to talk to really.

    Also have a look on www.kam-racing.com, Some suspension kits on there.

    But tbh it sounds like you just want it to look good, If i was you i would get some 40mm springs and pay a garage to fit them and adjust the torsian bar 40mm.

    40mm all around, should get over speedbumps fine, just low enough for people to notice its been lowered, Plus you wont need a full suspension kit, if you only go 40mm you dont need new full kit.

    I would wait and listen what others say first though.

    For some 40mm springs, your probably looking at about £40/£50.
    To get them fitted and torsian bar adjusted properly, about £120

    go 50mm IMO

    I am down 40mm and wish i'd gone down more

    About £100 for fitting of springs and torsion bar lowered to match

    (asked 10 times a day, do a search)

    40mm for the best of both worlds. 35mm for handling.

    good choice, 50mm is a good comprimise between looks and handling, im defnially glad i went down 50 instead of 40 i was thinking about.

    best springs for the job are the eibach sportlines tbh.

    do most saxos clear speed bumps down 50?

    This is my worry atm. Dont want to be fooking my car up when I go down certain roads.

    Otherwise Im going 40 on Konis!

    most you can get over, ive caught on one i think, and caught coming out of some mates drives. but i think its fine, i could imagine -60 being a bitch tho

    i have some pretty animal speed bumps near me... i was planning to go 40 but i'l take it 50 providing it will clear things fine...

    will i have any problems if its down 50? was also planning to fit a lower strut brace

    sorry for the hijack but its better than starting another lowering topic

    i live in birmingham, and we have some of the highest speedbumps in the country (true fact, was in the paper! lol ) im down 80mm and 60 on the front, looks brilliant and still gets over bumps at 20/30mph, the ones to watch out for are the ones that are square shaped and theres one on each side of the road, you scrape on them because your wheels go either side and the bumps high up in the middle, best to go over on two wheels, not all four

    well im not sure who lowered your car, but im 50mm all round and i certainly cant go those speeds over speedhumps !

    reply to alextofie, yeah should be fine, gotta just go carefull like any lowered car ! Personally i wouldnt risk a lower strut brace with down -50, if you want one id keep to -40 imo.

    I can tell you he does actually go 30 still. Im down the same and i can go over some at 30.

    Its the little short ones that are the worst where your front wheels drop over and it just chinks off your exhaust. HAve to go like 2mph over those.

    Just incase anyone hasn't mentioned it, if lowering it more than 40, maybe even less. Make sure the power steering pipe isn't being rubbed against anything. If you have a mk2.

    Maybe he can go over them at that speed no problem because he already knocked off anything that would contact with anything the first time he did it?

    But seriously I would have thought spax adjustables on the hardest settings and lowered 60 I would have thought would be a fair jolt to say the least?

    well good for you tbh, but thats fucking your car up and your back most likely.

    But saying that i dont know what the speedhumps are around you. could be tiny shitty ones. then you probably can, but if i went over a speedhump at 30mph my bumper will be behind me somewhere in peices.

    Another thing, most speedhumps are there to keep you to 20mph, so nice speeding claim

    Roads are still 30mph though? So not speeding.

    And i said some bumps i can go 30 over. Some are gentle ones. I know when im doing damage to my car.

    I was not on about some massive speed bumps. I dont go rallying my car 3foot in the air. Pretty obvious just by looking at the speed bump to whether you need to go 5mph or can go 25mph.
