Induction kit problems

  1. #1
Hey i recently bought this induction kit from kam-racing. Me and my mates tried fitting it into my VTR but it really doesn't seem like it can go into it. Here's a pic of the kit

    Is there anything missing?

what do you mean go into it? full explaination?

not on my vtr but i have had the problem on a saxo with this kit, it wont actully fit there not made great and the carbon firbe intake is to big for the bay, personally i would fit just the induction kit and use existing pipes, but your find alot of people have the same problem and its a case of adapting it,

    hope this helps jon

There are a few problems you will have with this kit...

1 - The rubber pipe it comes with is the wrong size. I had to cut a small "V" piece out of one end on mine and then use the jubilee clip provided to close the gap.

2 - The scoop has no way of actually being supported... at all. I've seen people on here who've made their own brackets to hold it into place. I won't even go into how mines held in place... it was a friggin ball ache thats all i'll say.

3 - From what i remember there aren't even enough jubilee clips with it.

I'll also add i recently fitted a separate breather filter to the engine because the pipe thats meant to go into the side of the filter pipe was ill fitting and at the totally wrong angle.

Basically... if you can be arsed messing about a bit its ok... But i do think there should be some warning beforehand because i bought it with the assurance that it was very simple to fit (which i guess is true, its just holding the bastard in place thats the hard job).

It might have saved me £80 or whatever over the proper Green one but for me personally at the time of buying it i had plenty of cash and if i'd have known it was going to be such an effort to simply fit an induction kit i would have just got the Green one! £110 or whatever it was i paid is still not imo a cheap induction kit and Raceland should make more of an effort next time!

The scoop fits... You just need to re-locate the power steering bottle. Suprisingly it does actually come with a bracket which allows you to do this.

Don't know why but my power steering bottle wasn't in the way in the 1st place, it was no where near the scoop. Don't know if its because i have a late model VTR.

Yeah Alextoffie all those problems apply - it really isn't the easiest kit to fit and to be honest i think its rather shoddy so im probably gonna send it back. Funny thing is i was actually recommended this kit by ppl form sax-p lol Anyone got any better kits?

i recently fitted mine and if you give it a bit of thought then it fits like a glove (mines a 99 - T plate VTR) and so my power steering bottle isnt in the way to begin with... on my car the scoop fits perfectly between the clips for the rad and as stupid as it sounds i just simply used 2 man sized zip ties to secure it there.

As for keeping it there and not wobbling around, i got some small squares of velcro and put them accross the top and then stuck them to the slam panel so i could still remove it. Sounds silly but it worked a treat and hasnt moved a muscle!

Lastly, the hose is too short, but the standard flexy hose of the OEM induction system fits like a glove in the ali pipe and as far as i can see is air tight enough! then i cut the rubber hose in half (i wouldnt use this anyway as when it gets hot it folds in and kills all power!) and then joined that to the flexy pipe and then to the throttle body.

    However, i needed the following...

    1) a couple of jubilee clips - 50p a go down car spot

    2) velcro squares - or a cut down strip

    3) MAKE SURE you use the rubber sticky strips to secure the air box to the induction hose - otherwise it rattles and sounds god awful - plus it'll piss air out of it

    4) zip ties (thanks dansport - you know who you are)

    5) some general knowledge and common sense - and about an hour at the least!

Hope this helps, if you need to see photos then PM me and ill try and help you out

Its been recommended to you because it is a good kit - IF you can be arsed messing about getting it to fit right etc! People would probably be happier when they buy it if there was a warning beforehand about the messing around thats needed!

I done mine found the black rubber bit was too small length wise but to big width? I have to force mine between 2 brackets that were already there to try hold it in place, but it always pops out. My Power steering bottle is just sitting there i have managed to re fit it lol.

The Raceland kit is a pig to fit, but once its on you'll see a great difference with sound, throttle response is good too. My local Autowise charged 30 squid to fit it, did a right good job, secure as anything and it sounds the nuts at 3.5k rpm +. The kit is superb value too, got it with a Green filter all for under £90, in my eyes a proper bargain. It really does perform well against your K&N, PiperX etc, and yes I've tried most of them...But to do it yourself its hard, granted.

Anyone got pics of it in a VTR? Why does it come with 2 filters btw?

Its the green one you use... Comes with the red one because thats the standard filter supplied with the raceland kit. You opted for the Green upgrade and therefore got a green filter with it.

Tbh i don't know why you got both, i had the green upgrade and i only got the green filter with it.

Im just hoping if i get it fitted somewhere its actually gonna be worth it! I don't want an induction kit thats worse performance wise than the stock one lol Im gonna have to explain to whoever i get to fit it thats its a beatch

It is well worth fitting - even with the ball ache. Non of the scoop induction kits are any easier to fit. The Green one after paying all that extra still has the same problems associated with fitting

Only one thats really easy to fit is the BMC one.

i think some one should put a guide up, or some more pictures of it fitted..
