How To Fit New Disks?

Hi, ive just bought some new grooved and drilled disks for my front and rear brakes on my VTR and i was just wondering is it hard to fit them and what would i need to do? its probz really simple but i like to make sure so i don't go ahead and fuck up my brakes lol! Rep for a good guide

i need 2 know this aswell mate lol i do know that there is a guide in the premium section but obviously youve got to pay £10 and be a premium member

lol yer it sucks

i think its just really simple as in just taking off your wheel and undoing a few bolts but i wanna be safe cos no brakes ain't a good think to have

Fronts remove pads & disc is held in with a retaining screw!

The haynes book is a good purchase as it show you how to do it!

ok ive my brakes have just arrive funnily enough lol and they got a guide, erm give me a sec to type it up

1. choose a level hard surface to jack up the vehicle and support with axle stands. before removing the wheels to be worked on ensure the other wheels are suitably chocked

2. remove the caliper without disconnecting the brake hose.

3 it is a good idea to check the condition of the pistons, rubber seals and brake hoses, if there are any signs of leakage, wear or corrosion replace these parts too.

4. Clean the hub thoroughly to ensure the mounting surfaces are clean and flat. failure to do so will result in " run out " and judder when braking, forcing the disks to be refitted or replaced.

5. prior to fitting the disks remove the protective oil coating with a suitable solvent like brake cleaner or methylated spirt.

ERM actually more i type this out the mor i realise this aint a guide lol just sorta a warning

sorry about that lol hmm, well i think im going to have a look anyway now so ile type out what u need to do if i successfully fit the disks lol

IIRC Front
Remove wheel
Remove springy retainer bit
Remove dust covers on bolts
Remove Caliper retaining bolts (bigish allen key)
Move caliper & secure
Undo disc retaining screw.
Fit replacement disc
Remove old pads
Put in brake piston ( G clamp is good ) (helps if you open brake fluid resoire cap)
Fit new pads
Refit caliper with retaining bolts
Refit dust caps
Refit springy retainer (can be a tricky SOB!)
Refit wheel
Lower & press brake pedal to ensure pads at disc.
Repeat other side
Refit brake resoire cap

Drive carefully to bed in brakes!

hmm i know this sound dumb lol but does it matter which way i put my disks on? cos i got some grooved and drilled disks and the grooves can either go form the centre of disks spiraling towards the rear or same but towards the front

g clamp i geuss is for the piston, to get the picton to retact rotate it clockwise dont go levering on it like it did because it wount budge. to undo the disk it is a torx bit NOT an allenkey. did it last sat

as mentioned the rear pistons rotate unlike the front piston.

I never used a g clamp though, I just levered the piston back with a screwdriver, make sure the resi cap is off though.

Maybe a bit rock like but does hte job.
