Vehicle Check

Thought this might be of some interest, you need your MOT unique number and your reg, it brings up your past MOT's, millage etc. I never got any service history with my car so this came in very handy as i was unsure whether the car had been clocked or not

    http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/internet/j...us-Request.jsp
  2. #2
isnt this like a HPi check?
  3. #3
no it brings up your past mot's, i.e where it was mot'd, miles, try it and you shall see
  4. #4
Now that's interesting. My dad's car has failed a few mot's the bloke who sold it to us said it had never failed any!!!
  5. #5
The site has only been up and running for 3 year so you dont get all previous mot's just the last 2 or 3

  16. #16
    Brilliant find!

And i did just have a good snigger, after searching for some older cars' MOTs to try, i found an MOT sheet from my first Austin Mini(1984)
Couldn't help but laugh when i saw it failed on nearly half the things they test!
  17. #17
just says mine has passed lol, not got anymore info..
  18. #18
Great find this. I was really concerned I had been screwed over, because I have got a lot of miles racked up on my clock, and was told most have been in the last 2 years, and this confirmed it. And didnt really have any probs in that last few years, Cheers

You need your MOT certificate no. to use the check.....so unless you know it from memory....you would probably need it in your hand to check it, lol
  23. #23

  28. #28
Just got worried, my new car i bought failed the mot last year, its due in a few months, reason for failure, Nearside windscreen wiper deteriorated, Offside windscreen wiper deteriorated! What an insult! Bet he had to pay another £20 for a half retest, lol. I didnt get an advisory page with the mot so it made me wonder what they spotted, but now i know they didn't issue one. Great webpage find, i never knew you could check back on the mot and the failures etc. Its all computerised nowadays, way ahead of technology for me to understand!

checked mine on that site when got my car cus thought it was wierd that it didnt have horn on it and bloke had just mot'd it. so when checked it, found out that car had failed mot due to this and few other minor things, yet passed the very next day even though nothing had been changed. useful site

  46. #46
i was going to buy an impreza with no history an the MOT site said that the previous owner put it for an MOT with 4 bald tyres, the wing, bumper an bonnet were deemed dangerous due to sharp edges. I was told it hadnt been in a prang.

    Nice claire
  47. #47
mines never failed an MOT best buzz haha
  48. #48
lol found out that when i got my car the garage i bought it off put it through its mot which passed. Never got an advisory slip and now i know why.

    corroded exhaust
    front and rear discs corroded
two rear tyres low on tread (already knew that)
    Haha fail.

    obviously all been sorted now.
  49. #49
It seems that my inner CV gaitor's have been split since a test in 08/12/2006 - I got the car in the air last week while the CV's were hot and the grease came out of one of them, which will explain why i'm having the replace the driveshafts.

Then on 29/01/2008, It has an advisory for rear window tints (LOL, I didn't think it would come up on an MoT) and it also has advisories for burning oil and coolant leak
I think the problems are still there.
  50. #50
    very handy website, cheers claire!
  51. #51
    ha nyc 1 very handy
  52. #52
brilliant! will be using this for every car I buy now lol
  53. #53
Blimey mines failed on enough for the last few years
  54. #54

    meh...
  55. #55
Should always do this before buying any car, I had a near miss with a 50k car which had actually done 130k!!

Luckily I did this before because it had been clocked and the owner only had the last few MOT's which were like 30k/40k/50k etc
  56. #56
I just used this pretty useful tool. Thanks!
  57. #57
my civic has only ever failed on a rear brake light out.... lol
  58. #58
Mines been tyres each year for the years its been in the UK, its had a nail in the tyre for a few years lol stil there now. Also brake pads, apart from that thats it. Not bad for a 15 year old car.

And its done 4000 miles each year since being in the UK
  59. #59
    Good.find does it cost

Nobody wants to buy a used vehicle with bad history. This is why car/vehicle history check is one of the major things before you buy one. Thanks.
  61. #61
you might be told that the car you are buying has a low mileage when in fact it has been used to travel for very far distances. You can't expect to learn everything you need to know about the car you are about to buy from the agent only, do you?
