Fuel Filter Change

  1. #1
Trying to elimnate an intermittent (sp?) problem on my car. Really frustrating lol.

I've got a new fuel filter & have looked at the Hayne's manual, all seems pretty straight forward.

Has anyone done this themselves? Easy to do? Anything that i should be aware of / take easy when doing it.

    Cheers
    Al

You're a star Mark, i feel a little ashamed that i didn't search for that lol.

Think i'll invest in some hose clamps & a new strap before i attempt it though lol.

Easiest thing you'll ever do on a saxo is change the fuel filter... very straight forward i've done it about 6 times on my vtr already, basically you won't need another filter strap because you can use a cable tie to tie it to the filter strap. (i've done this on every filter change and no problems)
REMEMBER ALWAYS WEAR GLOVES WHEN DEALING WITH FUEL

First off all get a bucket! an easily made mistake is not putting a bucket underneath the hoses, fuel will piss out EVERYWHERE! especially if you have a rather full fuel tank....

Put the bucket approximately underneath the fuel hoses (with the car on stills, NOT JUST A JACK YOU WILL LOSE AN ARM!) unclip the fuel filter strap so that the filter hangs freely.

Now first of all you wanna make sure you take the hose off that leads to the fuel tank FIRST, so you dont have to put your finger over two holes (it's rather awkward)

If you only have a couple of gallons or so of fuel left in the tank you can drain it into the bucket then put it back in after the change, and not worry about stopping the fuel from coming out. However if you have a full tank you might want to keep your finger over that hole! haha

Now remove the old filter and put the new one back in the same way as you took the old one out just reverse the process.

If you haven't got a filter strap then just use a cable tie with half of the broken strap, i will post a picture up of mine.

I change my filter every 6000 miles.
And my oil, oil filter, air filter etc. It's called maintenance
