New Gearbox

hello, just wondering what gearbox to get for my vtr... cos ive noticed people talking about different gearboxes that fit the VTR mk2 saxo... i wanted one that increases acceleration, any help would be great, rep given....

also has anyone bought a gearbox from ebay? is it recommended? and what should i be looking for if i did. thanks!

get a vts box tbh, theres a couple for sale i think in the for sale section here, n xsi one and a s2 rallye irc. them three would increase your accerlaration. and the 1.1 but i think they have weaker parts in them.

i aint bought a box off ebay i got a recon one.

if you get one from anywhere id recomend http://www.247spares.co.uk/?gclid=CJ...FRMfaAodR1qxfA

they have really good prices and a warentee and they also deliver. I put down i have a 1.4 saxo but after a vts box. Iv had about 3 emails from them with different ones and they keep phoning me leaving messages.

oo great! so the vts box would fit st8 on with no mods? which would increase accel the most??

might have an issue with driveshafts but i aint 100% sure about that. leave that to someone with more knowledge to confirm though

i think the s2 rally then the xsi then the vts, do a seacrh on here if think theres a post with all the compatable boxes in order of accelaration.

do you know how much they cost?

i got about 6/7 quotes from that site i posted up there^^ all about £150 region some a bit more for less miles.

a recon box is over £350 all in including fitting it will be £535ishh

and for a second hand box which costs about £150 id say about £300 fitted

if you do use that site above put down you have a vts if thats the box your after as youll get more results

shafts are fine to use vtr fit vts not sure on rally box

ok i have done erm... is it worth getting a recon gearbox? or will a 2nd hand one do fine? i needed a new gearbox cos my syncro has died on 1st gear and im replacing clutch as well so... and i thought a bit more acceleration never hurt anyone

all up to you i dont think it makes too much difference which you go for. If you have the money for a re-con box but dont mind a second hand one, then get a pretty decent clutch (or better than what you got anyway) and a second hand £150 box.

Ive got a 6month warrenty with my re-con box becouse my car was modified, would have been 12 if it wasnt. Peace of mind if you get a re-con imo though

lol ok, i haven't got much money these days lol so i think Ile be getting the 2nd hand VTS box

what rev changes are there from the vtr to vts gearboxes

I'm not sure what u mean?

Put a VTS box in it and it will accelerate faster with no loss in top end

would a vts gearbox defiantly fit in a vtr with no problems at all and no additional parts from standard? even with clutch cos im buying a new clutch and wondering if id need a vts one of them too!!

I want to know the same mate I am thinking of putting a vts box on my vtr too. Do you need vts driveshafts or do the vtr ones fit?
  18. #18
there all interchangeable, if you searched you would know

fit straight on, some people have said the drive shafts are different, but i have had VTS box,1.1 box and now s2 rallye box and all fitted fine with same drive shafts.

ive had several combinations of gearbox/driveshaft
not came across any that dont fit yet

imo a vts box is a nice idea as you wont be at stupid revs on the motorway but you will lose some top end

the xsi/rallye boxes are ace but ou will be revving higher and useing more fuel (you will with the vts but not as much)

Driveshafts go into the box the same on all models. They differ on the hub end

theres talk on boys puttin 1.5d boxes into higher tuned vts's, wats the crack with that if everyone is saying the rallye xsi n vts boxes are pretty much the best? aparently the 1.1 box is capable of 147 , seen it on a thread on here but i cant find it..
