MK2 vtr cammed loss of power HELP

  1. #1
Right then folks as some of you may know that i cammed my mk2 vtr with a kent PT40 cam and today it has had its 1st propper run out since. I have got a raceland ind kit on with a magnex system i also have a 4-1 manifold to go on the car it has the cat in the manifold still on and i have a freind who is going to remap it for me Anyway the car doesnt feel to pull aswel as it did when i had the standard cam in it the cam i have fitted has a vernier pulley on it the car pulls a bit better after about 4k so am i right in thinking that the 4-1 manifold will make a difference and a remap but as for the pulley i dont know how to set it up at all with the advance and retarding of it the valve clearances are set to what it says on the cam website but i just dont know what to do to get it to go any better i am thinking of putting the standard cam back in because i am so dissapointed with it
Any help will be greatly appreciated and theres rep up for grabs folks

if its not mapped, you cant really judge it mate. chances are it will be down on power cos its not set up properly

so first thing is first then get the manifold on which decats it and then see whats what and then a rolling road sesh while its been remaped cheers pjm 300 anyone else have any input on this rep is up for grabs

yeah, do all the works you want to do the car before you get it mapped, as even small changes like a different filter etc will make a difference to the map.

the mapping alters the amount of fuel going in, as well as when the plugs spark, so with it running on standard ecu settings, it will still only be putting the amount of fuel and spark in for the standard cams.

if i was you, i would try and avoid driving it much, particularly at high rpm's until the work has been done

oh shit i have been giving it some right beans over the week this is bad i take it i am going to get the 4-1 manifold back on and the remap this week is it better to get it live mapped or or done on rollers

lol it will only be bad if something goes wrong. just hope the engine's not running lean, otherwise you stand a real chance of fucking it up.

who is doing your mapping? can they map the standard ecu?
  7. #7
they are remaping the standard ECU which involves putting a chip in it to make up the maps as far as i know

set the cam timing first if thats out will run like a bag of pooh

no its a freind of mine who is a auto electrician and has also had a bloke come over from america to show him what to do but he has been doing it for a while and had good results as for the cam timing i am stuck

the cam timing really needs to be swung on the rolling road while the mapping is being done, there is no set point for the timing, so the best output will only be found on the rollers.

i hope your friend knows what theyre doing, tbh, i would rather have the peace of mind and go to a repected mapper

Yeah i see what your saying matey so far he hes remapped a few audis my bro's rs 2000 my dads jaguar and my mates saxo he is doing it for nothing because i fixed up his pushbike i used to build top spec mountain bikes for yates's so its got to be worth a try he has my ECU code and what not it a bosch ECU so we will see what its like
