Wanting to do 16 convo

  1. #1
I will be getting a VTR in the next few days. It will be a new style

Wanting to do a 16v conversion straight away on it. Just got a few questions about parts mainly. Are these the parts I need

16v engine - VTS/106gti, from same sort of year of my VTR
Engine wiring loom and ECU from 16v

Can I use my VTR gearbox and linkage on the 16v?

Also whats all this about fuel return?
  2. #2
u can use the vtr gearbox on it mate, but stick to a vts gearbox if it comes with one

n u have to make sure u have the right plug ecu, i dont know about anything else lmao hope it helps a little anyway.

So if the engine doesnt come with gearbox I can use VTR gearbox no problems?

sorry to hijack the thread - you will have to bear with me if i sound thick here.

u want to convert vtr 8v to vts 16v?

are the heads not inerchangeable?? along with the ecu? a few other parts and voila u have a 16v vts??(obv u will still a vtr box on it)

or is it a bit more complicated than this?

    Good point mate

But am guessing for the price it would cost me for the head and ECU, and I would no doubt need the inlet system. It may just be easier to take the vtr engine out and plonk the VTS/gti engine in

    So I need:

    Engine
    Engine loom and ECU(unlocked ECU)
    Throttle cable
    Top rad hose

Anything else? Once I have all these parts is it a case of taking vtr engine out and simply bolting vts engine in and thats it?

    Cheers mate

The thing I dont get is the fuel return. Anybody have pics or info on this
  11. #11
vtr should have fuel return anyway, shouldnt it?
ive done 3 vts conversions, vts into a vtr and ive never has a problem.
thought it was just 1.4 and below that doesnt have fuel return?
  12. #12
why would you not just buy a vts if you have this in mind straight away?

obviously you have no plans on informing insurance as it would cost more for a converted car??

    unless its for the track??

but if you use the search function mate a lot of your answers will be explained for ya chap

my vtr didnt have a fuel return,
  14. #14
I would have a vts or gti but insurance is too high I refuse to pay it lol

So conversion is the way forward

So vtr already has return line, so vts engine is basically plug in and away ya go? Sounds too easy to be true lol

No this cant be done, as the block, pistons and crank are all diff you need to ahve a vts engine instead of just a head as the engines are different mate.

whats different with them? surely just the head up must just be different, same bore and stroke, same cc and surely with only a 20bhp difference in power between a vtr and vts these parts would not be different?? as its still an N/A engine??

you'll get no help from me if you're illegally insuring your car

I strongly advise if you cant afford to insure a VTS, do not buy one, or convert your car to one. Simple as that.

And no VTS as far as i know has a fuel return line, i finished a VTR-VTS conversion today and the donor car had no fuel return.

vts has rebated pistons, vtr doesn't so you'd have to change them, pulleys are different so you'd have to fit vts pulleys to the vtr bottom end etc etc Far easier to just fit a complete vts engine.

all vts' have a fuel return mate. theres 2 fuel lines onto the vts fuel rail, 1 is the return.
