how to get more out of a 1.1

  1. #1
any suggestions on how to get more performance out of my 1.1??

still in sixth from atm and cant really afford the insurance on a vtr which is what i really want, so it looks like im gunna keep the 1.1 for a while longer...

so any ideas on how to get a lil more poke from it?

it standard as far as i know

rep given for helpful ideas and rough cost of mods

    cheers james
  2. #2
your best bet. is to accept that its a 1.1 and just save all your cash for your vtr...
  3. #3
A decent exhaust and induction kit? I know its not really worth it on a 1.1 though and wont make much of a difference but could make a small difference? I have the same problem and i want a mk1 or 2 'R' just the funds don't allow.

agree with above. save cash for a vtr

if you really wanted to get more out of the 1.1 have a look at snewham's progress thread - he did quite a bit to his 1.1 and got a bit more out of it

all you'll really be looking at is breathing and exhaust mods (ie air filter, manifold, exhaust system etc...)
  7. #7
yeah, like above i have one, but i am savong another year for R5gtt or VTS or even a conversion, but thing such as manifold, de cat full system, enclosed filter, 106owners there is guide for fitting them to a 1.1. wont make it fast but be a little difference
  8. #8
manifolds - a raceland one will fit and doesn't cost much..

then perhaps I'd look at an exhaust but definately some good suspension

all those parts could be swapped over to a VTR when you upgrade

could u give me a rough estimate of how much that would cost??

    breakdown would be best

but ball part figure for all of it will be great

    Strip out the car!
    Less weight better acceleration!
  15. #15
    what kam racing said

id think twice about stripping it. if gonna sink a vts engine later then fair dues. but your gonna get ripped for it on a 1.1

ive got a 1.1 and spent a load on it body wise to make it look good rather than go quick but i will soon be looking for a 4-2-1 manifold and putting a race centre section in although i dont see the point in a race centre section as the 1.1 mark 2 is a straight pipe from cat back no middle boxes so might just put a 2" pipe in but for what they are there pretty nippy i can get a 19 sec 1/4 with mine its not the best of times but i think its not bad for a 1.1 and that was standard in now has a s/s back box and k and n induction kit wich is being upgraded to a enclosed simota then i may put the 1.4 head and cam in if its possible and also the back of mine is stripped aswell but a custom install is going in

was payin £600 a year as a named driver, coz that was cheap as chips considering im at school... then thames gave me a call, said theyde do it on my own name for £800, i accepted, better to build up no claims, and avoid possibilities of ppl claiming i was fronting
  28. #28
nice i fink ill get a standard 1 ragher than an already modded 1, i bin quoted bout 700 quid to completely mod it but if i get a standard 1 i will save more than that on the insurance so ill probs mod it bout a year after getting, so basically in 2 years time

nice 1 mate thanx for the help i fink i read it once b4 wen considering to rite this thread or not lol

decided 2 leave the 1.1 pretty standard and get a vtr in a year or 18 months, really want a vts but no one will insure an 18/19 year on a vts lol

so saving the pennies for a saxo bout 02-03 plate already modded, would cost 700 quid for the mods i want doin and insurance is only 300 quid more for mods so i figured buy a car wiv them on, let sum1 else lose the money on them and i get a pretty quick good looking car for a decent price lol

sounds gd mate must look the nuts too, i decided to scrap the plans of modding the 1.1 and saving for a vtr

wos gunna do an engine conversion on my 1.1 but decided i wanted power steering so i can bomb along the back roads rather than takin every corner slowly cos the wheel either wont turn fast enuf or fights back against me lol

    thank god PAS lol
