16v Coil packs

   Hi all.
   
   Bought a GTi engine complete, with loom etc - but no coilpack, for a conversion.
   
   So got a coil pack from another 16v - was told it was a 106GTi one.
   
   Anyway went to connect it to the loom ive got and the plugs aint compatible.
   
   The coil pack has 3 prongs on - whilst the plug had 2.
   
   Whats going on?
   
   Can I fit any coil pack from a 16v?
   
   or are 106 gti and vts coil packs different? - or the age of the engines differ?

   The coilpacks are different, depending on the version of the car. So either a MK1 or a MK2. I don't think there's any difference between the VTS and 106 GTI, but I can't be sure.

   They're not actually compatible though. Someone tried that on this forum before...

   2001- have white plug and different wiring config.
   1997-2000 have black plug.

   ok lads sorry to spam this thread but I think this may have answered all my troubles. iv brought a vtr with a vts conversion the coil pack loom is a white plug and the coil pack is the black plug the car starts runs fine then and I had eml come on it was tested by my friend came up with random/multiple misfire, ignition coil primary secondary circuit, 02 sensor circuit high voltage. ive been told these will be all linked and to test the plugs and coil pack.... plugs look new but I tested the coil pack 18 omhs on one circuit 08 on the other!!! so when buy my new one I should ditch the black plug one and buy a white plug one I thinking that would be a yes

   I had this problem! I filed of the small bit that wasn't needed in the middle and it worked and still is today! ��

   well its a white plug loom to a black coil pack plug im thinking this change will end the eml I have fingers crossed.
