open air filter vs enclosed

i've heard a lot of people saying that enclosed air filters are best. but reading around and on K&N's website a few people suggest that open air filters are better as they can suck in more air and that enclosed air filters are restrictive in there air flow. what do you guys make of this ??

ive been readin up on it for awhile now and both have fors and against but i think enclosed filters are they way forward cold feeded air which the engine needs only thing i read which was bad was standing still theres no forced air in to the induction kit so does suffer in that respect??

open ones suffer from heat soak etc but sound nice

im new so dont bash me just my opion

imo a front mounted open filter is just as good if not better then enclosed.

By that i mean piping from throttle body right to slam panel and filter on the end.

You can get the scoop to go over them, but when they break and your left with just an open filter, you wont notice difference, bar the engine temperature was actually lower.

An open filter stuck right on the end of the throttle body is shite, as it takes in all the heat from the engine, even with a snidy bit of cold air feed.
