buying lots of bits, taking them off, modding them, putting them back on etc etc. need to re-build the engine DEPENDANT on spec.

what power are you after..... 4K upwards if you do it yourself for low boost.

    low boost see's around 200bhp@wheels for 16v.

just did a wee search for gmc location, think i might take a wee trip the morroe

Aye - only about an hour/two from EK, and John is almost certainly the best person to speak to.

Costs and whats involved are all dependant on spec and what you want (power, reliability). You can do a fairly low boost conversion with minimal upgrades of less important things and get a safe 180@wheels. Or upgrade change a few more things and get 220/230@wheels which tends to be the norm these days. Or you can go balls out - like John's demo car and get 280@wheels @ about 6500rpm and not manage to get further power readings as it shreds the tyres before it gets traction on the rollers.

need a good 5k to be on the safe side id say too, not cheap but definately worth it if you have the money

stu, what size charger does john have? i thought he had a wee bit more power than that?

also m17ky-u if you have any questions im sure either me or gd16 would b able to help you aswell as few others on this forum.

Danny - C30/94 i beleive, though could be wrong. He's definatly got more than 280@wheels, its just thats all they can prove on the rollers lol. Rev any higher and he can't get a reading - room just fills with tyre smoke. I think he or Ash said that 350@wheels might be close judging by the injector timings. Think they've given up (or put on the back bench) getting more power from it at the moment - working on ways to make the power usable.

As Predator said - £5k should cover things to start with. But all depends on what you think you need to begin with. Clutch, brakes and engine mounts would all be on my list, but maybe not others. Same with standalone which can be £1k+ on its own.

ahhh right thought that mate, with his whole setup it should be relativly usable i would think.... 10"slicks cough...

as an idea, ive got all my engine mounts, clutch, flywheel etc etc and i plan on spending 5k (at first) and with that im hoping for around 250-270bhp@wheels. then for more power ill need to start spending money on "trick" bits wich cost a lot such as custom inlet, msd ignition, flowed head etc etc.

would love to do this myself but im daft and would go all out then be wondering where all my money had gone lol.
    we'll see, it may happen.

Danny - 5k on top of the bits you've got (clutch/mounts), or including?

I was well over £5k just on basic parts. God knows how much the evolution of power has cost me know - let alone the rest of the car lol

thats on top mate, ive already got some bits..(so in my head i pretend they have cost nothing so the overall price is a little easier to deal with lol )

fortunately for me i can get many discounts of nice parts through work.. that saves a pretty penny.

ahh tempted but also got new car ideas

LOL - sounds familiar. I just buy things and leave them until a suitable time to install them, by which i've forgotten how much they cost

Can't get any discounts Just hunt for bargains, and fail. Although doing the work yourself can save a load as well. Never done an oil change on my car - but fitted the s/c kit myself Didn't do the electronics for it, but would be tempted to now as i'm more confident with them. Labour costs are one of the main bits you can actually save on - so i try and make the most of that.

    Going back to the original £5k figure that was suggested, bare in mind that the following;
Engine Mounts, Quaife LSD, Clutch, Standalone fitment/mapping

Has cost in the region of about £2.5k+, and in all honesty i'd definatly consider them all as parts needed to get decent power out of the car reliably. However cheaper options or ommissions are perfectly valid too. End of the day its how much you have to spend and how much power/reliabilty you're after.
