Is ABS worth having???

I have a guilty conscience!!! On saturday night after dropping my girlfriend home i was driving along a country road and a deer walked out and was dazzled by my headlights and stopped in the middle of the road. I was doing about 60 mph the road was damp I hit my brakes and they locked up I tried pumping them but they locked up again and there was no way i was gonna stop and I hit it. I feel really bad and want try and avoid it happening again getting ABS i thought might be one way. My saxo doesnt have ABS and I wanted to know whether its worth having? And if so can I get put on my saxo?

    Pretty pointless tbh.

    Was just an unlucky moment.

Hope the car isnt to badly damaged.

better tyres and possibly brakes would be a better move imo mate

its worth having for situations like that aye, i dont have abs on myn either but if i could fit it for cheap i would defos get it, only place that you wouldnt need it is if your making a track car or something along them lines. its just like another safety device really, defos is worth having if available imo.

as for fitting it this is possible yes definatly, but the amount of work im not sure of, i imagine it would cost a fair bit if everything was new, plus brake lines would have to be re-lined and im not sure but maybe new calipers to, and electricals.

Aye. ABS isnt needed imo, its just an aid. If you knwo how to drive properly and your cars got decent parts you dont need abs.

2 occassions now where i wish i had ABS, once on snake pass in sheffield that some of you may be familiar with..

following a mate, he had gotten quite far ahead after a series of lights, so he was going at around 40, i was doing 70 to try and catch him at night, i found him and as i was about 60ft from him a temporary traffic light changed to red just infront of him, i was expecting him to go through it he was that close that i didnt expect to brake, until i saw his lights come on, i slammed on my brakes and pumped, nothing, skidded alll the way, ended up having to swurve to the left to avoid him, missed the back of him by no more than 30cm, nearly mounted a curb and almost hit a traffic light.. i came to a stop with my nose about 2ft infront of him when i stopped in a cloud of smoke...

fook me that shit me up lol...

second was last week on the motorway, when i found the back of a car that had found the back of another car.... again, slammed up and just felt the wheels sliding...

if i could get ABS at a decent price i would do

Unfortunately as the temps are now dropping there really isnt much more you can do.

Better tyres will help a little but if the surface is damp and greasy no tyre is going to stop you if the wheels lock.

ABS is a very good safety feature, and is fitted to most cars these days standard.

But for how much it would probably cost you to get it fitted it would be cheaper and easier to get a car with ABS already fitted.

Its useful but better braking practices can help just as much. with the weather these days you just need to be more careful!

All ABS does is stops the wheels locking up. Bigger and better brakes would be better

driving with my abs sensors broken= me and the vts going sideways across 3 lanes of the m62. after that i invested in new abs sensors and ebc blus stuff pads. brakes are brillint now and best of all no sliding sideways! i think abs is a really good move but im sure a larger brake up grade will be a very good improvement
