Advise on Berlingo Brakes

  1. #1
    Hi I'm a real newbie with when it comes to Saxos. I just bought a VTS to use as a track car. First thing I noticed was the standard brakes are pretty woeful and definitely need upgrading. I contact GMC about their brake upgrades and was told that the best affordable options would be GTi or Berlingo brakes if I could find some for sale. Well Ive located a crashed 01 Berlingo and was looking for advise about upgrading the disks and the pads.
    Is it possible to purchase vented, drilled or grooved disks if so what spec should I look for in the motor factors. I would really like to put a set of Mintex, Ferodo or Yellow stuff pads on it too but again don't know what to ask for. The minute I mention Berlingo I'm told nobody makes any performance products for the Berlingo's spec.

    Any advise or help would be really appreciated.

    Cheers

    the berlingo and gti6 setup are the same iirc

    so mention the gti6 and you should be able to source some parts

    check out kam racing on here they do carbon lorrain pads n decent discs for the calipers

    try to stay away from the green/yellow stuff pads mate. they have very small working temps and need to be warmed up before use.
    again the berlingo and gti6 brakes are a good upgrade as the discs are 283mm rather than the 247mm standard discs.

    you will need the calipers, carriers, discs and pads.

    have a look at the stickies at the top of this section and have a search of the forum using the search function, you will find more than enough information on brakes

    Thanks a lot lads, I must say ye dont hang about on this forum with advise

    Just let me make sure Im getting this right. If I strip down the front of the Berlingo and take off the Disks, Calipers and the mounting brackets that come with it I'll be good to go?

    Then if I just order these parts from KAM Racing tomorrow I'll be ok;

    Disks
    http://www.kamracing.co.uk/citroen-s...-saxo-421.html

    Pads
    http://www.kamracing.co.uk/manufactu...liper-205.html

    Again I really appreciate any help and advise. I'd like to order these parts up and tackle putting them on the car on Saturday.

    Cheers

    A Berlingo brake setup is 263mm and the GTI 6 is 283mm so you cant have gti6 pads and discs with berlingo calipers

    Berlingo brakes have 266mm discs. As it's off an 01 Berlingo, you need to find some 266mm discs for a later 206 GTI (138bhp jobbie) / Berlingo as the offset was different for the earlier models. Got mine from a motor factors for £20 each iirc.

    To get this straight then before I go bed. I simply go to the local motor factors or use Kam Racing and order a set of 266mm Discs that would suit a later model 206 GTI. That will allow me to pick from different manufactures and get grooved or drilled or whatever.

    And then use the information in the sticky above to order the correct pads which is this;

    Common 266mm conversion, lucas calipers

    266mm disks, fitted to some 306 XSis, most 306 estates, xsara estates, some xsara VTS's' and VTR's, Citroen berlingo TD, pug partner TD etc

    Ferodo: FCP1112H/R (H=DS2500, R=DS3000)

    Mintex: MDB1812

    EBC: Greenstuff: DP21104

    OMP: OT/7226

    Dont want to come across as OTT here its just I want to make sure that I order the right bits and considering I've been having so much difficulty sourcing parts when I mention Berlingo its great to have the proper information.

    Thanks again lads

    Yes mate. Just make sure the discs and pads are for a later 206 GTI - I'm pretty sure the changeover was 1999 so you want them for a post 1999 car. Also make sure they are for the 138bhp 206 with 266mm discs, not the 180bhp model as I'm sure that came with 283mm brakes.
