Green Enclosed VS. Standard with Panel filter

    Have just fitted a green enclosed kit, and is so much worse than the standard airbox with a green panel filter.

    With the green enclosed, it just didn't feel as sharp - car just felt a bit sluggish from low in the revs. At high revs it just felt like it was finding it was holding back. Also, wasn't much louder either - could just hear the noise from the group n mounts as usual.

    Put my standard airbox back on and things are much better - just a recommendation for people really:

    IMO a better mod is to put a panel filter in, and remove the ducting after the airbox, maybe set up a cold air feed for the standard airbox. Also, much cheaper !

    Panel filter ftw mate!

    Also look up a company if you havent heard of them called ITG. They do a panel filter for the saxo which is supposed to be very good.

    Quite expensive too.

    The best air intake mod ive done is just remove the pipe which goes from the bend in the air scoop to the airbox, makes it sound like there is an induction kit on and also improves the air flow a little. Im going to replace the panel filter with a green one soon also

    I have a green cotton one in mine too, seems to be pretty good.

    Yeh, I've got a green panel filter in my standard airbox and it seems to be the best set-up for the price.

    I've fitted a few induction kits, BMC, green enclosed and this seems the best performance to be honest!

    Am going for bodie's soon so won't matter as much!

    Hi guys, I'm planning on trying the standard air box with Green Panel filter, but could someone explain the modifications I need to make to the standard air box to get the most out of it?

    Obvs I just straight swap the panel filter but do I need to rig up a new cold air feed system or drill the box or whatever? Any info would great. Also has anyone tried this method before and what worked best for you?

    Not so sure. Definitely pulls better high in the revs, and sounds a LOT better. Trust me i've had 4 green encloseds, and run standard airbox in so many different configs. The standard airbox feels a bit more responsive at low revs. Rolling road readouts showed VTSs with greens to be the most powerful of our groups.

    Cheers Alex, is that the same for both VTR's and VTS' cus I've got a VTR so don't wanna cause any confusion!

    Also what I really want is more response in the lower revs cus I'm quite happy with how my VTR pulls in the higher revs I would just like a bit more response around 2500 RPM....what would be best for this?

    If the the standard air box and pipe could be made less restrictive then surely this would be a worthwhile mod, because the standard air box is supposedly very resistant to heatsoak....and at the end of the day isn't the most important issue, keeping the air 'cold'?

    A supercharger would help it pull from 2500rpm!

    I'd fit a panel filter to your airbox, then remove the piping leading upto the airbox and replace it with a cold air feed. Will be a good mod.

    Pretty much anything near the engine is got to get hot, I wouldn't worry bout it, you're not talking huge bhp gains or losses.

    personally I think there is too much of a pressure drop upstream of the airbox due to the number of bends... So I'm planning on a replacement panel filter then with a straight feed to the air box.

    Fundamental fluid dynamics tommy... more bends, diameter changes and longer pipes result in pressure drops.

    I was always led to believe the raceland enclosed with green filter was the best set up?

    Ive got the green panal filter.
    I think i will try a cold air feed to it though, like mentioned.
    Cant fault it as is though, for the price.

    i used both these setups on my vtr and for me the green enclosed is just that little better on response, but for the money the oe set up with the oe pipe work removed and a cold air feed in its place is nearly as good. i used some pipe work form an ax gt so that the resinator box was removed, but that works on the 90bhp vtr's as the later ones ran different airboxes. i now use the green as im happy with the way it works with the other mods.

    the raceland / simota / green enclosed all perform in the same way and get similar gains. The main differences are in price and the quality of the supplied filters

    Hi, guys if I'm gonna rig up my own cold air feed, what size diameter, ducting do you think I will need? Am I right in thinking, that too small and not enough cold air will get in and too large and pressure will be lost?
    Also what is the best material for my cold air feed? Thanks in advance...

    At the end of the day the Std airbox design is gona pretty much optimal for the Std engine..

    Citroen probably spent alot of money and time developing the std induction system to be spot on..Replacement panel filter is what you want..ITG gets my vote..

However it is the restrictive piping and resonator box which I plan to remove and replace with a direct cold air feed. What I would like to know please is what size diamter ducting is the best?? And material?

    I think it'll be 55mm. Double check and go measure! lol.

    Just any cold air feed will do the job mate. Go on ebay and type in cold air feed.

    And i've just got a cold air feed running from the standard aibox to the scoop in the front. Works rather well!

    Same here.

    I also ran mine without a cold air feed for a while, was shit, bogged down and sounded crap. With a cold air feed to it its much better.

    It'll be the same as the picture posted but with a vtr airbox.

    So with the vtr air box there would be an extra hole if the resonator box is taken away, what happens with this hole? Does it get plugged or left open?

    I just done that yesterday! Love the noise it makes now, very throaty!
    Hopefully replacing my filter with a Green Panel Filter soon aswell!
    Also going to invest in a cold air feed.
    Would anyone like to enlighten me on how to derestrict the standard airbox?
