Right day 2 of lowering the Saxo the front is done 60mm even though I thought they were 40mm springs cheers jord LOL but now the torsion bar is siezed any ideas?

heat it with a blowtorch, then try it
  8. #8
    also look here and here..

amazing what you can find on google
  9. #9
Right tried blowtourch slide hammer wd40 and it will not budge it's annoying any other help
  10. #10
google how to unseize torsion bar, see what comes up..
  11. #11
ive always said this but the seized bolts really sort out the ability of most (no offence intended)

heat only works from a proper set of industrial burners.. those little £30 propane torches are a waste of time.

for the type of bolt in the tosrion bar i find a chisel (sp?) is good! you can really get a good slap at it and the shock from the hammer helps to free the rust thats holding it in in the first place.

edit: also, its best to replace the bolt you have had the chisel at.. sometimes one or 2 slaps with a hammer free's it and you might get away with using it again.

get an impact driver, put your t40 on the end and bray it with a hammer, the impact/ratcheting motion gets them unstuck. ive never had a beam i couldnt get apart.
  13. #13
thats good for the torx t40 bolt but them torsion would not slide out no mateer what we did
  14. #14
have you got a slide hammer sean? you need one to get the beam out...

be careful driving about if you've only got the front lowered, it'll be dodgy
  15. #15
i know special cos the front is like 50 or 60 lol and i cant think or other ways to do the back would take the whole axle off make it easier

the springs Jord sold you were -50mm, and like I said, get hold of a slide hammer then give it some welly...
  17. #17
sorry mate yea i got a slide hammer non stop for 2 hours today with constant wd40 wouldnt budge mate ppl say taking the whole axle of can make it easier
  18. #18
lol this is why I said get Nick to do it...
  19. #19
how much would he charge just to lower back 60 or 70
  20. #20
I'll text him and ask tomorrow
  21. #21
    cheers mate

use a big hammer, there is no such thing as a seized torsion bar.
just being giving it enough shit.

    Agreed

It depends entirely on which method of torsion bar extraction that you use.

Socket method or slide hammer to be fair are not very effective. You might get lucky and have relatively free bars (rare) in which case they would work ok,
but for the stiffer bars you have to look at a good bar and a large hammer to do the work for you which to date has never failed (touches wood)

    bit of a random one
you say youve took the t40s out
    what about the washers??

    youve not mentioed them

The washers in my opinion can be the trickiest and fiddliest part of torsion bar lowering. Bolts are the easy bit.

yep, washers can take the longest part of the process sometimes. i have a bar that is just smaller than the minor diameter of the splines, i use that and a good hammer to get them out.

that makes 2 of us, i machined up a nice piece in the lathe to hammer on. never failed to let me down. in saying that i was at one on saturday and it took me a hell of a time toget it free even with a dam big hammer!

yea at first forgot about off centred washer but they came out with some wd40 so come out with ease so if i get the rear axle off and support it properly will it make it easier with a big sledge hammer and strong bar????
  31. #31
sean did you get my text earlier? Nick said 100
  32. #32
yea man cheers if i take the axle off and try, if it still dont budge i will debate weather to pay 100 pounds to nick or pay 100 to buy an already lowered rear axle lol
