16v Engine Conversion

  1. #1
Thinking of buying a 106 xsi and putting a 16v engine in.
It is possible to use the 1.4 xsi box?
What is required for the conversion?

Suppose this would be the same as putting a VTS engine in a VTR
    Any help would be great

    Thanks, Tom

it is possible to use the xsi box. that would a very very good box for acceleration.

you would need engine, ecu, loom, possibly the internal loom. you would need a 106gti loom rather than a vts to aid the wiring process

would be a good idea to upgrade the suspension and brakes

Only real problem you could have is getting the loom and ecu right as with the saxo if you got an engine which was the same year as the original most things would fit. But the XSi is a bit older. Im wanting to do this to atm (can get one for £200) but parents say we have no room at the house.
I believe that it sits straight in the bay on the original mounts, no cutting and shutting required. Im 99% sure you can use the 1.4 box as some people tend to fit these to vts's as the gear ratio's lean towards better acceleration.
For the conversion id get the engine and gearbox coupled together and extremely serviced so you know its all good, upgrade any parts you can while the engine is out to make life easier. Im not clued up on ecu's but im guessing an unlocked ecu will work or some sort of after market one.

Dont forget the brakes and suspension though, When i finaly get mine ill be stripping it to the max then fitting cage/very good suspension and 4 pots before touching the engine. Oh and dont forget to replace bushes aswell.

    plans sound good

you can use then same box to

have a look on 106 owners and RR im pretty sure theres a few xsi 16v's about
    maybe ask them for advice

Thanks for the advice so far, been great

Putting the engine in etc isnt really a problem it is just the wiring an ECU that confuses me.
Any more info on this from first hand experience?
