Fuel Pressure Regulator

Heyya guys i have been looking at these for a while now.
Are they similar to power boost valves.
What are your views on these.

    Cheers

No point unless you have tuned your car to the point where it needs more fuel.

    anyway.

    Ok thanks. Just want opinions.
If i was to go purchase this and fit it to my vtr, turned pressure up full what would the outcome be mate.
Sorry but just want to find the ins and outs lol.

I had a weird problem after a track day, car was acting like lack of fuel, loss of power and cutting out. Did if late in the day and broke down a couple of times on way home. Been 100% fine since. I've replaced the fuel filter as a precaution but the guy at the track said fuel starvation was a problem on the Saxo and to keep the tank topped up. Thought maybe a slightly higher pressure might help?

Good shout yehh. I dont think upping the pressure will harm anyways, and as its adjustable i think it could come in handy at some stage. As they say overfuel is better than underfuel lol.

would probably need an uprated fuel pump aswell?

Im not sure. Hopefully someone has more info on them for me

Where is the regulator on a VTR?

Doubt you'd need uprated pump for modest increase in pressure.
  9. #9
increasing the fuel pressure wont need a bigger fuel pump unless your going metal. You can buy preset fprs far cheaper than adjustable ones. 3.5bar, 4bar etc.

Will increase the fuel pressure at the injectors, which can make the spray better.

Useless without a remap though, will just make the car overfuel at certain rpms since it ups the fuel across the board rather than just where it actually needs!

either on the rail or ontop of the fuel pump under the seat

Nice bit of info. I have not seen the preset ones. The adjustables are only around the £30 mark anyways so not breaking the bank hehe.
Where is the actual pressure regulator on mk1 vtr. Anyone got a pic.
  12. #12
Will have to check, probably at the rail end, they're normally in the engine bay on the few cars I've seen, mind you the last car I checked was my Strada Abarth and that runs carbs i.e. low pressure
  13. #13
Anyone got a haynes handy lol. Piece of piss to fit if its in the engine bay.
I have seen a few underneath the car mind around fuel tank.

    vtr is 3.5 bar standard.
  15. #15
I'll have to check my Haynes

How much and where from? Does the VTS run higher pressure and is it the same fitting?
  17. #17
Im 99% sure i seen that in the bay earlier. Thats not a bad pressure for standard mind. Id imagine the vts runs similar if not the same. Correct me if im wrong.

    vts runs the same

same fitment, different pressure. vts is 3bar

I thought it would have been a bit higher if anything.
I think i am going to get one of these, even if it doesnt gain me much at least it will look good in the bay, ohh and maybe a lil pop now and again lol.
Plus if i ever have starvation problems.
  21. #21
its tiny and wouldnt be seen so it wont look good in the bay
  22. #22
it wont fix fuel starvation, thats due to the pickup in the tank or the pump. You are wasting your time, fuel, and risking bore wash
  23. #23
Ok i just thought it might help things thats all. Theres a video on youtube with a citroen xsara vtr with one and it makes hell of a sweet noise too. Wouldnt mind that (if it is the regulator making it)
  24. #24
it wont be the regulator making noise
  25. #25
Maybe I should be a fuel cell for the boot to fix the fuel starvation issue I had on the track. Planning on going on another track day v. soon.

Xsara VTr I had one of them, terrible, poor on power, big on fuel. Traded my Saxo VTr for it. Got good deal but only kept the Xsara for 10 months it was so bad. I knew I should have bought the VTS which is the one I test drove, much much better.

Okie dokie. It was a lush noise whatever it was, like a turbo whining (on idle)
  27. #27
I maybe wrong but i thought vtr runs 3 bar fuel pressure and vts was 3.5?

sure i read it somewere on here not too long ago ...

Im in the process of modding my VTS with throttle bodies. I have been advised to fit a 3.5 regulator from a VTR to get the best out of them by Andy who makes the Predator ECU so it must be a bigger pressure than the standard VTS regulator.
  29. #29
    vtr is definatly 3.5
    vts is definatly 3.0

a higher fpr wont stop fuel starvation as that happens because when you corner hard the fuel runs to the side of the tank with allmost centrifugal force effects meaning its no longer by the pickup for the pump

understanding why things happen might help you understand how to fix then

jesus christ, whats with all the 3 year old thread revivals today??
  31. #31
fuck i didnt notice that lol
  32. #32
what ever you do, dont get a fse power boost valve and just adjust it lol, if you do that it will not allow any fuel back to the tank, i blew the bottom of an injector in my escort gti by doing the same thing when i was young and bored! lol

not sure how they work on a vtr as they dont have a return to the tank but they will on the vts. much better to get a bigger fpr that is non adjustable and just replace the standard one thats in the car, under the bench behind the driver seat under a round black cover on the vtr, its on top of the tank.

on a vts its much easier, its on the end of the fuel rail ;D

a bigger fpr will flatten out any flat spots you have, but done expect a massive noticeable difference.

+1 to this tbh on a road going car they`re a waste of money.
  34. #34
Ah Cool I just need to source a VTR regulator now lol...
Not having much luck online. May have to visit local scrappy.

    How to prevent fuel starvation!

Get the newer fuelpump, you will find it also in the Saxo 1.4 VTS late 2000 or 2001 onwards! This pump has got an extra reservoir chamber, where the fuel is sucked through, hence it doesn't cares if you are in a fast bend or on a straight!

Check the partnumbers in the Servicebox, if you are unsure which pump you have installed!
