VTR Turbo - Cost ?

  1. #1
    Hi Guys !

This is my first post so sorry if i make any newbie mistakes !

Basically i will be purchasing a VTR from a mates GF in about a month ( Once she has got a new car ) its a P reg which i believe is the mark 1 90 bhp model.

Due to once owning a 2.0 Corsa Redtop running 185bhp i need more power !

I have been looking into all the power gains and are drawn by either VTS conversion or putting a turbo on the VTR.

I would prefer the turbo as its more fun but i don't have the biggest pocket in the world !

Reading around on the forum i can see there companies which do it but prices are very high!

Basically wanted to know what is the best price i could get all parts for and if someone is able to do it for me as i have never worked with turbos before ?

    Thanks in advance

I'm not 100% sure but probably about £2000+

Its cheaper to go faster in a Vauxhall imo.

Yea thats the kind of price i have been seeing.

Theres a Kit on piston heads parts section for £2000. But still a case of getting it fitted !

I'm hoping theres someone somewhere who has a turbo kit for sale who is also wise on fitting them !

Anyone have a Turbo kit for sale lol ?????

    cheers

To turbo a car you either do it properly or don't bother imo so you have to spend some decent money.

If you really want a turbo get a Corsa and drop a LET in it lol

It will probably work out cheaper and better if you go down the cammed 16V route.

I have had my fun with Vaux now!

Yea im thinking best idea would be purchase alll the below -

    VTS 16v Lump
    4-2-1 Manifold
    Cat back system
    Cams
    ECU Remap
    Induction Kit

Do you know what kind of BHP that would gain ?

Any sugestions on which parts are best ie, best exhaust , etc ...

    IT would run VTR box.

    cheers

you would see around the 150 ish mark (bhp) depending on parts used.

vtr box would make it far less fun though due to the long gearing, you'd accelerate considerably slower than what you would with a vts box.

Add a XSI or a Rallye gear box to your list and it will accelerate a lot better

keep ccheckin ebay as i see alot goin cheap on there

why not just buy a vts to start with and save some work?

    plans sound good doh

A Basic Turbo setup on a VTR (which your £2,000 will get) Won't get you a lot more than 140-150 at best.

If I were you I'd go for a VTS conversion and Cams which together Including a remap shouldn't be more than £2,000 and will get you probably the same (140-150bhp) and is money better spent IMO.

A basic turbo fwd car is not a nice thing - unpleasant to drive, costly for the performance and most of all unreliable.

what did you do to the red top engine to get it to run 185 bhp?

Cheers for the help guys !

Thinking a bit more in depth about it all , running a turbo vts may not be worth the money.

So why not do a VTS turbo!

I could pick up vts setup cheap enough i recon. Put that in add a new mods then turbo that.

Please note this wont b in a week haha ! im not made of money, i will just add a little something each week !

Anyone selling all parts for VTS conversion ? ie lump box ecu and loom ?

    Thanks again

best people to speak to about a turbo setup is gmc. if you dont have a big budget then go down the route of cams etc in a 16v and get it breathing better aswel

    hope this helps

worth also speaking to dp engineering and pug1of, there is cituning but they are limited to low boost and a gt17 turbo

Sounds to me your buying a car and getting abit too excited.

Stop with the big plans, VTR turbo isn't something you jump into when you know nothing about it all.

For now just stick with an exhaust and induction kit and do abit of reading.

The VTR will suprise you on good handling incomparisment to your previous corsa.

Two very good points with a relatively basic VTR turbo setup are that it will drive much like a standard car off boost including good fuel economy and drive ability at low speeds. Plus its easy to get more power at a further date. 200Bhp from a VTR is relatively simple to get if your talking boost.

A normally aspirated engine with out some sort of variable valve system can not run wild cams with out significantly reducing fuel economy and dive ability even if your only driving slow. You also struggle to big power gains from a normally aspirated engine.
