Important! : VTR 2002 Engine conversion

  1. #1
Hi guys I got the engine from 2002 MK2 VTR 3 plug ECU and 2 CATs to put in my 98 VTR Black top. I have everything I need with the engine apart from the exhaust manifold with the second cat. Could any1 point out if I could use my exhaust manifold from 98 black top instead?
Thanks in advance for any help !

Not sure if you can use the manifold from the blacktop as the ports are different on the inlet they may be on the exhaust too. You will also need to have 2 holes for the lambda sensors. Best thing to do is get a 2nd hand manifold off of a mk2 VTR

I have not got the second sensor either mate. Will the exhaust manifold from any standard saxo like 1.1 or 1.5 diesel fit as it will be almost impossible to get the right for the weekend ?

all 8valve exhaust manifolds will work on any 8valve TU engine. So yes it will fit. If you say you got everything for the conversion then you will have a wiring loom for the triple plug ECU aswell which will have two LAMBDA sensors on a precat sensor and one after. If you havnt then you havnt got the engine loom for the engine, youll also need the interior loom for the triple engine aswell.

I actually have got the loom mate, Im just missing the cat with lambda as the guy who took the engine out cut the lambda sensor and kept the cat so it seems like Im screwed now unless I can run the new engine on my old one plug ECU.

Fit your mk1 Manifold onto your Mk2 engine along with the old Lambda, and soldier the first lambda wire off the loom to the lambda and for the time being put the second lambda wire dangling around. Also youll have to change the mk2 oil filter localtion to the mk1 position.

You might get ECU light on, but might run fine unless it goes into limp mode.

Sorry guy I have just realised that I have the manifold on 2002 MK2 engine its a pipe that goes straight from exhaust manifold with cat inside and second lambda sensor is missing.

still the same as ive said.
  9. #9
Yeah I know its just going to be a lot easier to get the pipe with cat and lambda sensor rather than change manifold and relocate the oil filter

Yeh. Just got the idea you wanted it doing by the weekend.
  11. #11
Yep, that was the idea mate im still doing it as long as i get the cat tom

Just out of interest how would you move the oil filter from MK2 engine to MK1 location ? May have to do that if i dont find a cat tom.
