SaxoMuffin's Awesome Throttle Bodied 8V.....Bodies and Suspension Fitted and Collected..But There's Problem's...19/05

    Howdy,

Been on here a while but thought the time has come where I think a progress thread has to be made so I can get opinions and views on the car.

    The Start
So, back in December '08 I bought a 51 plate Silver VTR which had 22k on the clock for £1900 which I thought was a bargain.

This is how it looked back then.(Sorry don't have many standard pics)

    Chavs
After having the car for a week and a half, the below happened. I went to make a U-Turn in an industrial estate and was greeted by a group of chavs. As I was driving away after turning one of the idiots decided to throw a brick at the windscreen. Lovely

Thank god for windscreen cover on the insurance, but was a mess and to the day I'm finding tiny pieces of glass everywhere....

So the first thing I did to the car was T-Cut the back badges.

    Rear End
Next up was some smoked jewels and a Sax-P sticker

After I was impressed with these I got hold of some smoked fronts and fogs.

Also got some medium tints which suit it well and don't look tacky like limo tints do.

    Engine Sounds
Then came the exhaust I got a 3" Piper Outward rolled backbox with a supersprint race centre section.

    Wheels
So then came the big purchase which was the wheels but imo the best purchase as when lowered (AWAITING COPIOUS REPLIES "NEEDS LOWERING"). They are 15" Anthracite Speedline Turini's which were bought new with Yokohoma S-Drives on them tyre's aren't the best but seeing as I mainly do motorway miles they are good as they wear slowly.

    Today
So gave the car a good seeing to yesterday with a clay and wax (Didn't really need a polish tbh) and came out every so shiny So went and took some pics today

Only time will tell for the rest

But opinions please? (Good or bad)

    Domo Arigato....(Mr Roboto)

Gracias, Yeah but the thing is the plans in my head change daily on the long drive to work thinking about it.

Forgot to mention i have a centre console waiting to be painted, I'm going to be painting it Anthracite'ish and eventually will be the same as the half cage..

Cheers, and it will be soon enough.

Do you guys think 40mm will be OK as I want it on the balance on looks and handling because I will be taking it on track in the long run...?!?

Ok, so time for a couple of little updates

Firstly, i have finally got round to de-wipering, which has made a big difference to the back end and.

I just need to try and get rid of the crappy ring that is left around it, will give it a try at some stage today.

Secondly, I put on some black chevrons to go with the theme of the car which I think makes the front end alot nicer.

Thirdly, got my components fitted which are awesome and the sound quality is immense they are Rainbow 13cm Dream Line SAX230.20 and are powered by a Hertz EP2 amp. Also got some Dynamat Extreme around the speakers

Sorry for these pics were taken in a hurry will get better ones later including ones of the boot

The tweeter is mounted here as my the mirror plate which was going to mount them failed.

That is all for now more updates coming soon.

really really good prgress, looks stunning, The speedlines go really well with your theme!

Thanks Auds, yeah the seat was a pain but now I've got the new one ordered hopefully that will stay jizz free I got my backbox from Larkspeed as they seemed the cheapest at the time. And tbh I wouldn't get anything above 3" as imo is the perfect size and would have to be Outwardly rolled as it looks 10000 x times than inward..

I'll get a better pic of it at some point this week for you

Lol, well mine is 4" atm and the previous owner cut out some of the bummer to fit it, so I think 3 1/2" is going to be best for me otherwise it will look lost, I think. But yes am leaning more to the outwardly rolled, be great if you could get a pic yeah thanks mate much appreciated

    Big Epic Update

I had fitted some 106 mirrors that were colour coded.

Right so yesterday was a very busy day, seeing as I'm no longer tied down to trade insurance I can start the modifications

Yesterday the car was lowered 45mm at the front on Eibach springs and apex dampers all round, the rear was lowered to match...

We fitted my one OMP TRS seat (thanks Wayne), these went in with some Luke 3 point harnesses

Also the smaller things fitted were B&M Quickshift and also my 6k HID's

Aswell as fitting all this I gave the car a good service

Sooooooo, today I cleaned the baby lol and here are the results of all the hard work in no particular order

And here is an epic reflection pic oh hai Moxy see I do clean my car (better than you )
I'm joking but seriously that sir is a reflection

Cheers mate, its all going to come together slowly.. I'll probably require your services closer to FCS I will wait until I've got both seats and sorted some other little bits out and the stripping shall begin The seat is unbelievable its as if OMP took a mould of me whilst I was sleeping

I do try to keep it clean and I do use quite good products its just the last owner washed the car with a sponge covered in barbed wire lol...

Oh and the nail in the tyre turned out to be a small tack and didn't pierce the rubber woo lol..

    This years plans!!!

OK so now I've got my own insurance and not tied down the trade insurance the modifications begin!

Already this year the car has been lowered and a couple other things as you can see on the previous page..

But the things I will be doing this year and hopefully before Trax:

    OMEX 600 ECU from Atspeed

    Bodies

    Courtesy of Sandy and Colin

Cams I'm not too sure on which ones but at least PH3 and maybe PH4

    Headwork

And they are the main things I have planned for the very near future

So now all I can say is Team 8V

    Enjoy

See i knew I was going to get these comments but here is how I see it....

My car is and will be my daily driver, yes it will be used on track for the occasional track day. But alot of people think they need an epic ammount of power to have fun but to be fair I'm sure I'll have the same ammount of fun...

So meh and it's good to be different once in a while....

Omex is really highly rated and produces very good results when mapped/set-up correctly....

Just gives even more control tbh and of course the predator is going to take some time to get made etc...

Cheers mate if you mean FCS 2011 then yeah

Cams and ECU will be shortly after FCS but before Trax and bodies will be in between trax and fcs 2011 just want to get everything spot on then just a case of popping the bodies on and mapping them...

Oh and JRC teased me with his S1 box grrr... but I think I'll put at 1.4 xsi box in there eventually...

Quick question for you though... how are the bodies when sitting in traffic I'm assuming they are fine....

Yeh spot on - just like standard inlet tbh.

My car takes a bit more care in traffic due to the lightweight flywheel, can be easy'ish to stall it when creeping in traffic !

Gracias...well things have kinda changed regarding those.... the way i'm going to do it now is cam the VTR 'hopefully' fingers crossed for FCS and get them timed with the standard ECU... then say in September-October time get "Everything else" done...

Manifold is going on the 8th so no more quiet car....... and a question as you may know the supersprint manifold comes in two parts... it 'sleeves' with bolts to tighten. Do you think it will be OK to use those and put gun gum around the join?

Waiting for my wrap to come to keep things cool and hot
  141. #141
People have problems getting those to seal, and end up getting them welded into a 1piece manifold.

I'd gum it for sure and see how you get on.

Still going omex? What sort of cam you looking at? A ph3 or equivalent?
  142. #142
16v it then you can put cams in rather than a cam... lol are you 100% sticking 8v will be nice to see it different.. meet up soon mate

What I'm planning on doing around September is fit the bodies, PH3 cam and ECU I will be uprating the valve springs and caps when this is done. And probably a year later get it rebuilt with potentially a Kent PT41 cam which is a built wilder and then get some headwork done. As the gap in-between will let me focus on others things such as suspension etc...

With obviously a whole bunch of track time next year

    BODIES ARE HERE!!!!

Well the Royal Mail decided to make my day and deliver these babies

Yeah soon enough they'll be on... and I will do eventually when I can be bothered to take pictures lol.. Next year is too long dude!!

    Brembo Fail.

But on another note Brembo's were not fitted yesterday as I will need 5mm spacers to get them under the Turini's as they are huge! but do look the sex

So if anyone has any 5mm spacers I can buy/have please let me know!

I think that's what I'm going to do some universal's will be fine for only 10mm extra track overall... so meh just annoying after I decided to fit both of them before trying them with the wheels

Erm again all money dependant but I'm hoping before Trax if not just after definitely this year before November And what would you like pics of I'm pretty boored so I may get some snappy snaps Yeah that's cool a lot people think everything has to be done ASAP but I'm like you and would rather everything be spot and preferrably first time. Yeah hopefully next weekend now

Because they ain't any, i've been slacking getting the car delivered to me next month from cage place, then can start taking engine out and up to atspeed
  217. #217
What throttle bodies are been used, and would they fit straight onto the 1.4?
  218. #218
Wayne/Ross do you how much lower the 'low profile' version of the side mounts are? I can only see length differences,,, I think I may need them even lower Stupid seat makes me sit awkward once I have the helmet on .....

And the bodies are the GSXR kit from Sandy/Colin they make an inlet manifold to suit the 1.4 but my set are specific to the silver top VTR engine...

Because i have them Wes look in my thread and you will see how low they can go i need to get myself a helmet
  220. #220
I found with my sidemounts, that the seat rails limited how low I could go - but I've got plenty of room between my head and the roof.

Get some seatrails/a subframe that has seat rails that are low and you'll be fine!

Or get weld in seatrails like mine you can go lower then to low and you won't be able to see where your going?

A few people make up the subframes and mount the seat rails on the subframe as low as you want - so are effectively the same as weld in ones tbh, but you can bolt them in and out.

Mine cost around £90 a pair and the fit was spot on + the rails are super low

You'll need to see where you're going lol
  223. #223
I'll need sidemounts as I won't be able to drive in the straight up position as a daily drive. I think I'll just buy two steel low mounts, I won't be fancy and get aluminium unneccessary expense at the moment when money needs to be saved for the engine. And then if the low ones are not low enough I'll get some weld in's..... cheers guys
  224. #224
    What subframes you got?
  225. #225
    Standard OMP subframes...

these are what I'm running and they are super low. http://www.106owners.co.uk/forums/th...ucket-seats%29

They only look like 2mm lower than the omp one lol...

I know I need to get them done but my card was cloned on Wednesday so thats not helping but all the bits should be bought at the end of this month (hopefully) then its just a case of saving up for the fitting/mapping of the OMEX at AtSpeed.
  228. #228
Just re-read what you said that's pretty interesting if they can make it lower... but tbh rather than fork out and them not be the right height I'd rather just settle for weld in rails and i can set them spot on to myself
  229. #229
like it mate especially the turinis... i have the same exhaust and i wud highly recommend a piper 4-1 manifold to compliment it... makes a big difference to power delivery

Weld in seat rails will be exactly the height you want them to be plus you can adjust the height on the sidemounts or adjust the sidemounts so the seat sits closer

    Updates Galore

if you saw the car at FCS you would see a lot has changed since the last update on this thread. So I finally got my ass in gear after fitting the Brembo's to take pics of everything else which has changed.

**Apologies for the quality of pics I've lost my camera so out came the iPhone **

First off is the Superleggero OMP Corsica steering wheel which is pure porn to look at and to hold whilst driving....

Next up is that I have fitted two OMP TRS seats these were done agggesss ago just never updated this....and also started to strip the car (please note I'm not just stripping the rear I will be going all out just dont have time to do it at the moment with work and the engine to take care off)

And of course the Brembo's and some other pics of the car...

Also had to get a new headunit as the old one broke only temporary will be taking it out when the stripping continues....

And of course my legendary sticker...

    Nanolex Awesomeness

After a whoring session a while back i applied some Nanolex window sealant and I must say this stuff is epic. It's really distracting though watching the water bead and fly away but anyways here some random videos:

It really is and also amazing how it works water hits it and just runs off.. really awesome stuff and nope haven't really attacked the squeal yet not too bothered about it as long as they work it's fine but I'm going to take them apart this weekend to apply some copper grease behind the pads and if it continues I'll opt for different disks....

Yeah this is the first one they have made so I'm a guinea pig in a way but I'm sure it'll be fine.

I'll be running Omex 600 which is already purchased.

  261. #261
Ah right, I always wondered why there was never any decent mani's for the 98 vtr as the port spacing on that looks alot more suited than the 90 vtr's from the outside at least, can't comment on the angles in the head as I can't remember lol

How much are they planning on selling the mani for? Same as the other 8v one?
  262. #262

Have to get it on the k-tech dyno when it's done!

Yeah the port spacing and design is ALOT better than the earlier engines only downside is the roller rocker type head. but this isn't an issue to be honest I can get head work later on to get this improved

Yeah the same prices as the existing kit £550 is what i paid in total (excluding the bodies themself)

Which for what they are is a bargain in my eyes....

Cheers dude, it's getting so close now I have all the parts sitting at home (apart from the filter) so I'll take some funky pics later to get the thread updated. I'm going to take the car of the road to a month or two in October to get it all fitted along with the cage which is jizz material on it's own lol....

Yeah I still want to get it dyno'd before I change anything to get a base figure...

Also I may fit the cam next week as I have a week off because I'm impaitent then closer to October it'll purely be the bodies and ecu

    Well........

This is were things can really turn fun lol....

I'm on the look out for a second hand head in 'decent' condition and I'm going to give it to a my brothers old lecturer at college (he studied motorsport engineering) and he is going to have a little play

Yeah it's just sourcing a 'decent' one is annoying and plus I'll have to wait until September ish to buy it do to all the parts ive just bought and the cage .... but definitely by 2011 the car will be done (well the throttle body side of things lol still a lot left lol)...

    Recent Purchases

Right the thread really has been lacking in updates recently because I've been hecktic at work but for the right reasons so I can buy ll of these goodies which have now arrived and waiting to be fitted

Oh and I'm also set to be in on the Safety Devices group buy set-up by Willsy (Thanks again )

Im still waiting for two more bits but I'll post them when they have arrived.... the current parts I have which are waiting to be fitted are:

    Throttle Bodies
    Omex 600 ECU + Loom
    Polyrace Front Wishbone Bushes
    Polyrace Rear Beam Mounts
    Powerflex Front ARB Bushes
    Powerflex Lower Engine Mount
Pipercam Uprated Valve Springs and Caps
Newman Cams PH3 Cam for Silvertop Engine
Bigger Injectors (Only to be fitted if neccessary)

**Sorry for the quality of pics I'm not a photography whore so my phone will do **

Nice load of goodies Wes bodies look superb can't wait till everything is fitted
  275. #275
Looks shit mate, may as well sell it all

Shame there aint a plug and play for the 3 plug yet, would save a good bit of cost with the wiring of the ecu.

Good to see someone doing it to a vtr as well, always fancied a vtr on bodies, as it aint all about horse power. Smiles per hour not miles per hour

    Lol fancy buying then

Yeah I was hoping the Predator would be done in time but nope so the omex may work out for the better if the build does change over time

Thanks though, at least someone appreciates it being done on an 8v, as thats the exact reason I drive a car to enjoy it and it doesn't have to be silly power for the sheer fun you can have even with 8 valves..

And I've got a 1.4 Xsi Box fitted which I haven't really mentioned I don't think but it's recently been refurbed and running smoothly

Thank you guys! I'm hoping at any point between the start of October and November massive changes will be made

May try and fit the cam beforehand but i'm not sure yet all depends on whether I source a second head or not....

Received my Vibra Technics mounts today, I opted for the fast road kid as I'm sure these will be more than sufficient

Cheers, yeah it was reading through your previous posts that made me be undecided between the PH3 and Kent PT41 but I didn't have enough info on them on clearance etc to bite the bullet and get them but tbh the set-up I've opted for will be more than sufficient to help improve my track driving as one the engine is complete I'll be doing some track days and getting the car's handling/suspensions exactly how I want it then if needs be I can go crazier...

Seeing as someone has bumped it up I may aswell add some more pics of parts which have arrived.

My cam pulley which took 52 days in total to arrive as more had to be made probably due to KamRacing starting to sell exactly the same ones...

My cage arrived a 12 point safety devices bolt in cup cage...

    (Better pics shortly )

And also put some new rubber on the car fitted them but no new pics of the car at the moment Uniroyal Rainsport 2's

Suits the car a bit more with the 50 profile tyres and for the 500 odd miles I've put through them so far all I can say is they are MUCH better than the previous Yoko S-Drives.

Also fitted an aerial bung will get pics of the car soon...

I like this. Wish i'd have stuck with 8v myself then i wouldn't have wasted £3k and wouldn't have got messed about by tosspot companies that im surprised are still in business.

I like the 'instant' almost linear power of the 8v compared to the 'this feels slow, oooh i've hit 4k RPM BOOM OFF' of the 16v.

Im sure with your brakes and some decent suspension upgrades this would annihilate a standard 16v anyway..

Yeah I wanted to be different no one to my knowledge has bodied a MK2 VTR engine yet so it'll be fun once it's done to see what it can do.. But like I've said earlier in the thread I'm not pushing for BHP I want a fun drivable car as that's all that I want in a car...

3K ouch.... Yeah 8v power delivery does seem to be a nice delivery as standard but I can't really gauge as I haven't driven a 16v

And yeah, with the 1.4 xsi box and weight differences at the moment I'm definitely on par with a standard 16v

I think thats the best way power indeed corrupts!

16v you have to be above 4-5k if you want to really accelerate. Problem is you do that in say 2nd gear your rapidly approaching the legal limit in what feels like no time at all lol not very good for impromptu 'races' with mates etc.

    Hi. First off, great thread!

However, i will be very interested to see how well that manifold for your bike bodies fits. I spent a while over summer (when i was bored) designing a inlet mani for our type heads (Spacing more or less 0-0-0-0).

My design uses the standard injectors, as they go into the head. But they caused me a bit of a space issue as it was quite hard to get a manifold design that would not foul the electronic injector rail and the engine mount nearest the drivers side.

If you have had to move anything or change the engine mount could you let me know?

I will be watching this thread with lots of interest!

Thanks mate, was you ever successful in making the manifold and do you have a progress thread I'd like a read if you do..

And when I purchased them I was assured I could maintain the OE fuel rail as I'n my eyes that's a much better location direct in the head...

But i'll keep you posted as it goes along and dont worry there will be a shed load of pictures as usual

I have what i think is a successful design. I designed the whole thing in Solidworks (I have a student copy, because i'm at uni) and then made some mock up parts from cardboard. Everything seemed to fit fine. My design made it so that you would have to relocate the horn and replace one of the engine mount studs with a bolt.

I dont have a progress thread, but i have designed every part for the inlet mani and reducers for a GSXR 1000 K7 bike body setup. I just really need to get round to getting it made.

I had another look at your manifold and it looks to me that it may foul on the electronic rail for the injectors. However, im sure that the guys that made it tested it to fit. Or i might have a different electronics rail than you.

Would it be possible for you to give me some rough measurements of your mani? I'll send you aan assembly drawing of my design if you would like to compare.

    Cheers

Sounds pretty cool, I was going to get my brother to design the mani as I wasn't sure with Colin made them for this engine but he did so I thought I'd save the hassle.

To be honest from the top of my head I can't see why you would have to change engine mount bolts as there isn't a mount no were near it is there? Same with the horn?! (May just be me being a tool)

Yeah I wouldn't mind if you let me know what measurements you would like...might be easier if you did forward me your design but mark up which measurements you would like

    Cheers,
    Wes

Thanks...will be good to meet up at Brands really looking forward to it. I'm hoping because I'm taking the car off the road at the end of November that everything will be done for Brands then you'll hopefully see what the 8v can do

I like to be different and as I've said in the thread I'm not aiming for power figures I'm aiming for something that gives me a huge smile every time I sit in it

Yeah well what I would like to do is get the chasis/handling exactly how I want it with the throttle bodied engine then maybe in a year or so whack a 16v lump in and supercharge it...

Charged up ay? That will be mint. Don't think there's too many of them knocking around either, I'm just gonna go N/A as I like the idea of having 100+ HP per litre, I think it's really good if you can break through that mark on a N/A engine

Yeah from what I've heard as the roller-rocker type is least subjective to cam gains but like I said no-ones throttle bodied one to see what gains can be made so yeah should be a good test.

Just looked back and saw you bought the uniroyal rainsports? How do you find them?
At the moment im running 195/45 proxes 4's and just seen them on camskill for £35.40 in 195/50 profile but they have a high load rating (86) did you consider them or have you used them before?

Whens the cage getting fitted Wes? you respraying the interior also? will sound good once boddies are on when are you getting the car mapped up?

You have gone for a short trumpet length on the TB's

How will this effect the power band in comparison to lengthier bodies?

Am i right in saying that it will put the peak power at a higher rpm?

I've got the 195/50 profiles on my car now and tbh I really can't rate them high enough for a road tyre. They won't be the greatest on track but reading a whole bunch of review's road-wise they are amazing lol...

It's not just the trumpet length that accounts to the move in torque it's the overall tact length which includes the inlet manifold and speaking with Sandy I remember him saying this length was best suited overall to the 8V engines. But again only time will tell exactly how things will pan out

Sorry Wayne I forgot to quote you

The cage will be fitted in the three weeks which I have between taking it off the road and the track day at brands. But I won't be spraying the interior for quite a while as it's really only cosmetic so I want to make sure the car is running/handling well first then I'll concentrate on the nice things

Again same with the mapping anytime between 21st November and 17th December..I can't wait!!

    Update (Kinda)

Unfortunately there's been no real updates on the car as my dads been majorly busy with work at the moment but were planning to get some work done to the car saturday..so stay tuned

    But.....

I have been buying more bits...

I've purchased some 21mm torsion bars and 24mm rear ARB to go with the front suspension. And also the 24mm master cylinder for the brembo's (finally)

These should be on by Brands next friday I'm hoping but there will be updates on this over the weekend next week in preparation for Brands

    Recent Happenings

Well as I've said I'll be posting a little update with whats gone on..

I'm sad to say theres nothing major been done yet..as of alot of stuff going on in life..but it is now starting as we speak so my target date for full completion is March 27th..So expect alot more frequent updates in the coming weeks

Well as it's been a while and not much has happened all i've really done is fit carbon doorcards all round and strip the car a little more (haven't got pics of this yet, these will be done at the weekend.)

But back in December I took the saxo out on a track day at Brands and the weather was a bitch to say the least...But I still managed to get in a good few laps and have a good time so here's some pics from then.

so yeah...enjoy! And keep looking in the next coming weeks for the real updates!Bodies here we come!

Yeah exactly and a house is a house a car is purely a car and not needed if you know what I mean its about time to move on in life, I'll be looking to move out myself at some point this year..

I think i hold the record for getting shafted with my car mate for the money i've spent i could have had a brand new 16v sat in there with tb's, cage etc everything im missing at the moment! Just be careful is all i'll say...

Im not saying atspeed are the worst in the business but when i take my car anywhere i want to feel like they WANT to work on the car and that they WANT to see the happy look on my face when i get it back rather than just take my money. They should go the extra mile as thats basically what will bring me back.

    Progress

Not really an update as I'll do a big a update on the weekend with pictures but just to keep you in the loop....

All the rear suspension was done yesterday, which consisted of fitting:

    Bilstein GrpN Dampers
    Fitting 21mm Torsion Bars
    Fitting 25.4mm Rear ARB

I've raised the car up so it sits at about 30mm now so hopefully no tyre rubbing...

The rear ARB was a complete pain in the ass as the end plate would come off. But as soon as we source a slide hammer it was out in no time

That's all for now front suspension will be done today.

Will be nice to see what sort of figures you get with the TB's. Certainly pleasing to see a few more people starting to tinker with the 8v's of late. The 8v is more than capable, plus Saxo's thrive in the twisties so IMO its much more of a thrill maintaining speed over a long distance than it is for the few seconds it takes getting up to speed.

Been there and done that with the 16v's and with the Ax im staying on the 8v route with a few plans in mind

Best of luck with the progress over coming weeks mate, will be nice to see a quality job done and a result that makes you smile with the hard work being worthwhile

Thank you!!!! Yeah I'm excited to see what it will produce obviously I'd like it to be a nice healthy gain but at the end of the day I modify the car so I enjoy it..So as long as the noise is there I'm sure the smile won't disapear.

And yeah it's all well to go and do it to a 16v but pfft theres no fun in that I'd like to be different.

Oh and another little update the car is now at atspeed

Throttle bodies were around 600 iirc I bought them so freaking long ago...

And trackdays vary for an open pit lane it's about 1-200 quid...But then you have fuel travel and all the other stuff with it..

Unfortunately not, haven't had time to get that done yet. Suspension is fully done now though bar some bushes...

The cage will be done in April and yeah there's some good progress on your's too!

Im thinking of getting a safety devices cage for mine if funds allow. But want the jenveys, etc on first. Might be getting a new daily driver soon so can work on mine properly.

    Hello....

Oh believe me I know all about your car I've followed you on rallyereg and 106owners lol!

Mines silvertop with PH3 cam so will be no where near you'r power.

But I'm not really pushing for huge figures I want something that's fun to drive and allows me to improve the track driving with suspension and everything and then move on to more power later
  405. #405
I didn't realise many people knew about my car??
Gotta hand it to ya for going down then silver top route. dont know of any/many who have done the silver top on bodies.

Have to let us know how ya get on buddy! What sort of power you aiming for?
  406. #406
Yeah alot of people do it's an insiprational car for us 8v guys lol....

Yeah no ones got the Colin Satchell kit on the silvertop as mine was the first inlet manifold he made...

Will do it's still at Atspeed getting the wiring and mapping done..but I'll be happy with anything over 120 to be completely honest as that will give it that bit more of a much and an epic noise...It's mainly going to be used on track and will be a good base to then move onto alot more power...

cause the 8v has more torque lower down rev range than a 16v hense better pick up and plus sound of bodies makes it ideal to drive, 16v doesn't pick up till about 3500-4000rpm when second cam kicks in on a standard ecu system, it's nice to be different instead of following the crowd dropping a 16v in every vtr as it's so common. Anyway Wes any update on the wiring/mapping with Colin?

I have and i've asked it a million times...I'm obviously liking more than 120 but I'd be happy with it...And I'm not pushing for high figures I just want to enjoy the car..Get used it it with a bit more grunt and then I'll be improving the power to say the least.

    Well said!

Of course being unique is always nice! better than a sheep of a 16v...I'll just laugh at all the 16v'd VTR's that this will rape lol...

And no major updates yet just ongoing I guess....hopefully it will be ready this saturday when you'll all see some nice big updates

All the comments are well and true but the vts uses a different shorter ratio gear box instead of the vtr's long ratio (and ridiculously slow 5th gear)

VTS on bodies will rape VTR on bodies FACT

Fair play on you though at times i wish i just tuned my 8v rather than whacking the 16v in but then i think about what it will be like with tb's and change my mind..

Not when you have a 1.4 xsi box which is shorter than the VTS box...

And not neccessarily look up a few posts at Richy_Rich's post stating that sje's 8v can beat his so not so much a fact..

But I'll say it again I'm not pushing for figures i'm pushing for a fun car to drive...Which is surely the reason why anyone modifies a car?!?!

    Right....

Far too many factors into this!

For one, like just said look up! Sje's cam'd bodie'd 8v can still pull away from my cam'd bodie'd 16v. simple as. Now thats to do with mine not getting full cam potential and can shake off 708/ph3's 16v's and thats been proven. before bodies, i stood no chance as well!

you statement may be true if they were done in a controlled environment, i.e. same type of cams & bodies & box......

and I'm sure sje can back me up, along with a few over on the 106oc.

Its a fair point... vtr has a nice bit of torque low down, but a vts has more.
If you drop a vts lump you have just gained what, 20-30 bhp for easily under a grand. Then you got the added potential to that.

Sjes car has undergone serious work and is literally at its peak power, where you could almost say there is no more to gain.
Where as a 16v, you can peak an N/A vts at 200bhp and still have a safe engine for a good 3-4000 miles, and if you go above 220bhp which is really expensive then your looking at a frequent rebuild.

all i am saying is the scope of the engine etc.

The fact that you have a tbd 8v in sjes case that can pull away easy from standard 16vs and Rich`s itb 16v (probably not set up 100%) is pretty sweet, but from a personal factor, i would want to spend 4-5k cash on pulling away from something a bit more special than a saxo.

All the above is based on opinion to be honest, and muffins car will sound and be awesome

I'm only at the limit of my camshaft choice thats all.

yes a 16v will make 200bhp+. How many of them acheive it?? not many Most stumble at 195 if there lucky.
Speaking to Sandy 180bhp from an 8v is acheiveable! maybe more. So plenty more to be gained. Also the 8v lump is surprisingly lighter than the 16v lump.

Much bigger/more powerful machinery have become very embarrased when they realised i was still next to them smiling when they thought i had long dissapeared. Only silly speeds do they leave me.

    Rich keep dreaming,
Quite a few achieve 200bhp... quite easy... but were talking on both parties of the car not being street legal.

180bhp in a vtr lump, would mean regular rebuilds, a bore very close to the edge, and again not street legal.

Im going to be putting ph5 cams in my car once i have my daily drive, and with some nice big jp4 valves and a fully rebuilt head, i will be looking at the 200bhp mark.
for me, its about power to weight, and how much torque you have anyway.

when you going to ace cafe next? Im thinking of going next week if you and Alex fancy popping up again?

    Rich keep dreaming,
All standard vtr's do...its easy to whack a vts engine in for around £400 all in these days so cost/power its more effective.

Its like saying a V6 is going to be better than a V12..its not....fact

This has been done to the death so all i'll say is congrats for being different.

Dropping a 16v in has been done to death, that is true.

See you all at FCS i hope.
  444. #444
Again I don't want to be the cause of arguments but there are way to many factors...

The main factor for me being this is an ideal car teaching myself good track driving...
And if you get a 180bhp saxo on track and can't drive for shit whereas I've got this but can drive it well then theres your answer...

It's just a pure 'fun' car to drive I had a smile on my face all weekend when i took an astra vxr in a pretty much standard 8v around brands lol..

And at the end of the day it's all about fun on track!

    Good news... It's started

Bad News: The throttle position sensor is naff, and as the bodies were also bought through Colin Satchell I need to find exactly what model GSXR they are from.

Sonny - you might be able to help with this as Colin said you had to replace your's aswell and I was wondering if you had any pics to see if it's the same as mine..?
  445. #445
    oooh that bits expensive!!

He bought his from suzuki, and colin normally works with k1 or k2 gsxr1000 bodies!
  446. #446
oooh mate. Thats was not easy. I had to source one from Germany in the end via a local Bike shop. Cost £136.00!!!!!

Theres a few different types with different mounting points.

You need to know whether you got :

    K1, K2, K3, K4 etc etc and what bike they came off i.e. 750, 1000, 1300 Hayabusa.

Also the 750 and 1000 bodies were the same K1, K2. I think the 1300 Hayabusa used the same TPS for a bit too. I think i bought a 1300 Hayabusa TPS in the end.

also if you have a picture of the TPS itself that would be good too. I think i have a Technical drawing of the one i have. I'll dig it out for ya.
  447. #447
    Bollocks!!

I've sent Colin an email as i don't have a contact number so that's not really going to speed things up...and I only have the useless pics in this thread which are crap!

I know what it looks like though so if you can find that diagram that would be awesome!
  448. #448
Give us ya email address buddy.

    Cheers man really appreciate it!
  450. #450
    Sent.

Make sure you find your exact one as i dont know whether they are interchangeable.
  451. #451
Looks really good mate, can't wait to see this on the road now.

Disagree with the people saying 16v is much better. You can get decent power from the 8v engine an its always good to be different. I've seen 170-180bhp 8v's used in road rallies and they don't need rebuilding or anything, just the same as any other performance car such as a 16v on bodies. Ok, it did have a quaife gearset but oh my it shifted, more so than a 170bhp saxo on bodies I've been in - and even that had an s1 box.

Don't underestimate an 8v is all I'm saying as they can surprise quite a few people!

Nah mate i'd rather do a trackday or another ring trip than waste my money on that shite lol
  453. #453
i plan on a Ring trip before i get rid of the Rallye.
Hoping for an RS end of the year.
  454. #454
Sod that would rather a TB'd, cammed rallye over an RS any day of the year. FRS only has 203 bhp/tonne.

    Soz saxomuffin
  455. #455
yeah but its has billies !!!
  456. #456
Well it would be a mk1 and a remap would soon sort that out.
RS is a far better car all round.

SaxoMuffin - Let me know if you got the email. i hope its got everything ya need, if not just ask away and i'll try my best
  457. #457
AHHHHH panic over....the guys over at atspeed have managed to purchase a new TPS...
Although my wallet will be even lighter now..

    Now awaiting delivery

  465. #465
    Definitely worth more than £1600....

    But yeah track it up!
  466. #466
the only reason i put full interior back in was manily due to none of my mates being interested in track days and having to go alone... you getting in a fair few this year ?

Lol, I miss French cars a loot.

Been keeping an eye on the saxo's for sale on here but nothing has grabbed me yet.

For the money, a gti6 205 would be rapid + plenty of scope for more power, plus is pretty much the same as a Saxo parts wise. Just keeping my eye out for a bargain!
  470. #470
Once you go French you'll have to go back!

    Sleight Crappy Update

Car still isn't back even more problem's...

Exhaust rubber broke at Atspeed and the exhaust broke itself due to it being a rusted piece of mild steel crap..

So pretty much £300 and a Kam Racing outward rolled backbox and centre section has been ordered and will be delivered to Atspeed....when they get back in stock...

Soo maybe just maybe it might be done for next weekend....

Your a dummy if you could not fit them Joe, and as for Atspeed themselves, faultless! im sure muffin would rather they take there time doing a good job than rush it.

Hmm maybe you should try telling Andy Hammond he is a dummy! Sure he'd appreciate that one!

Nice choice on Kam Racing exhaust system Wes Kam racing exhaust system should be piece of cake to fit or for any matter any other exhaust system is easy to fit, either something is wrong with fitment the one you had or must be pretty thick on not knowing how to fit an exhaust system as it's fairly straight forward tbh, anyways cannot fault Atspeeds work or commitment, not going to argue about it anymore as i'm sick of you on about it. Hopefully all goes well for you Wes power wise

Well for one, its your responsibility to buy the "correct" system and the Kam system has been fitted to hundreds of saxo`s.

Maybe your car is inbred, and just wont take a good system lol

I don't know what was wrong with it. The center section was fine but the backbox wanted to poke out of the rear wheel!

    It's OK and it's not crap it's just banter...lol.

You should just get it done so you can enjoy the mofo!

I wouldn't post 'krap' on someone's thread for no reason. Just alerting him to some problems i have had.

Different people have different experiences with companies 1000 people may have had great success with atspeed and there's bound to be one that hasn't (me)
Also 1000's of people may have had no problems with the kam system and someone (me) will have had.

Tbh i bought a mk1 system for a vts as i have a 2001 VTR with 1999 gti engine and mk1 catalytic converter so it SHOULD have fitted but it didn't. Im not hating on kam at all as i've bought many products off them with no problems.

I don't see how me alerting someone to the problems i've had is so bad if anything its a good thing.

If anyone does have a problem with me doing that i couldn't give a flying F anyway so

Good luck with the car anyway hope you get it back soon!
  496. #496
Yes but joe it's not just once your on about it, your on and on about atspeed all the time, drives me round the bend give it a rest please once alerting someone is enough, anyway wes looking forward soon to seeing more progress, yeah i'll get mine on the road all in good time

should have 16v it mate LOL.. wes what bhp it running your have to catch me...
  554. #554
    Well here it is....
    Update

Well I made the long-ass journey on Saturday morning to collect the sax from Reading met Maxamus in Feltham and he was awesome enough to give me a lift to Atspeed (Thanks again )

Collected the car and from there all the way to KFC () down the road from Atspeed I had a huuuge smile on my face drove awesome suspension and engine wise!

Drove it home which also consisted of a ear-to-ear smile on my face lol...

But only was it when we stopped I realised that I could smell neat petrol.. Not cool..
Also noticed on the drive back that the engine seemed to hesitate/flutter quite a bit under quit low throttle.

So theres definitely a petrol leak some where as I've managed a whooping 50 miles to half a tank of V-Power and when you're broke that's not cool... and the smell of petrol just seems to be getting worse to the point where you have to drive with both windows open otherwise your either going to get super high or pass out lol...

So no more driving of the sax until this weekend when I'll pop back to Feltham and get it on the ramp to see if we can find the leak...

But....from what I've driven so far it's unbelievably fun to drive definitely takes some getting used to with it being so 'lumpy' on idle (think this might be worse due to fuelling issue) and the responsiveness due to the throttle bodies but all in good time and to be fair seeing as the primary use is going to be flat out on track driving in traffic isn't bothering me lol

Soooooo after booring you with all the story heres probably what you really what figures..They aren't great but like I've said from the beginning I wasn't pushing for figures all I wanted was a bit more grunt and something I love driving every second I'm in it....which when the fuelling is sorted i've definitely got!

But yeah...98.53bhp atw 98.16lb-ft Torque and OVER 9000 sph..

So not great but when it's sorted I'm damn sure I'll have the car just as I wanted it...

Pics and Vids to follow when leak/issue is sorted.....

Hmmmm hoe the fuel issue isnt anything serious dude.....

Last fuel leaks i had were from the injector area and just behind the coilpack so dunno if thats a common problem?

Feeling you though. I made my mate really ill to the point his throat closed up the next morning after we went out for a drive.

Not sure at the moment checked all logical areas and I've got a feeling it's a small leak from the fuel filter area but like I said I'll be taking a proper look Saturday..

But yeah it really is bad! Like bad being an understatement the smell is soo strong...
  560. #560
My fuel filter developed a pin hole a while back........the smell was BAD!!! Hope it is something so simple.
  561. #561
Yeah I really hope it is I have no money if it's anything else wrong with it i haven't even had the chance to go for a 'proper' drive in it yet ..
  562. #562
out of interest, what does 98bhp at the wheels equate to at the fly?
  563. #563
    Any news on it?

Shouldn't be too hard to trace the leak?
  564. #564
no the fuel rail/injectros? common when removed, mine was leaking the other day, noticed after i got about 20 miles from £24 of juice

    Just under 120bhp I think.

Good gains if you ask me. Need to get a sexy cam I reckon. Not sure if there is much choice on silver top cylinder heads though.
  566. #566
+1 for a wilder cam. You really want something like a Kent PT41 to take advantage of the bodies and standalone.

After having the cam timing adjusted on the rollers, my old VTR made 118bhp ATF with a Kent PT40 and breathing mods. I found the cam (which profile wise, isn't too far off a Newman PH3) was really mild - the engine idled no different and was fine on the standard map.

Did atspeed say there was more power to come once the fuel issue had been solved?
  567. #567
    Any news on this?
  568. #568
Not gonna lie i was expecting much greater results.

    22bhp increase.

Maybe its something to do with the fueling etc.

Saxomuffin dude you need to think if its worth caming to gain maybe another 10bhp for $$$, for the same money a 16v lump.

Srs @ 22bhp increase i'm not being a dick it just isn't worth it?
  569. #569
for the sound of ITBs and doing something different, yes its worth it!
  570. #570
I've seen this car since the work has been done and have even been in it. I can tell you that it is an absolute beast. Its not just about the power, its the mix of the power, awesome suspension set up and noise of the bodies that make the car! Wes took me out in this on a private road (cough) and i've never been in anything that sticks to the road like this does, 85/90mph going round corners and it isn't even close to the limit. Unreal!

16v pfft this thing will rape a standard VTS so whats the point of putting a 16v in it... And a car isn't just about straight line speed/power... If you had an extra 50bhp on me and but shitty brakes/suspension I'd just out-brake you and corner like a boss..

This car is now set-up perfectly the handling is immense the only thing letting it down is the tyres I can't push the car to it's full limit as the tyres are poop...But I mean it gets the point where it worringly fast around corners how it just sticks to the road..

Every time I get in the car I have a smile ear-to-ear and I just can't see how that can be slated. And if I wanted more power I'd have to spend what I've already spent as I'd wan't iTB's etc...

P.S the above rant wasn't aimed at you just the sheep of Sax-P in general

If you ever experienced the car your view would change hence JRC1's epic comment!

love the car muff, but im with drew... end of the day, a vtr/vts are basically identical, bar bigger engine, you cammed both engines the vts would rape the vtr, you cant deny that! 120bhp vtr cammed or a 140bhp cammed vts....

logic! although i completely understand the appeal behind what your doing!
  575. #575
I suppose everyone is right, you should have 16v'ed it because I know how often us saxo drivers take part in standing quarter miles and laps around are local maccie d's.

    /sarcasm.

it will go on track every now & again, Muffin will enjoy it and go home a happy guy.

Not if theres a shit driver in the driving seat are you not forgetting this is soon to be used only on track days so for the fags that like a cammed vts purely for straight line power will still get raped if they have only concerend about power so yeah.. It's just a shame there isn't a trackday in which all you hating people attend so you can actually be shown that this car is an all-round car not just the fact it's a bodied 8v..

Any Updates on the car Wez?
  584. #584
Cmon Wez i want an update on if you fixed the fuel leak and recent pictures of car please
  585. #585
Hello...long time lol kinda gave up on sax-p after the last updates but yeah quite a bit of progress. The leak turned out to be where I had a faulty TPS which caused it to over-fuel ALOT! So this went back to Atspeed so they could adjust the map with the new TPS fitted. So this came back after a week or so and it felt like a completely different car. There was no smell of petrol and it drove completely better as the revs would fluctuate before but smooth as hell now. As make the cold start alot better too.

But apart from that there's been little progress. The car was stripped more and the cage was fitted which is awesome. Still not fully welded in at the moment as I haven't had any spare time to finish it but I'll try grab some pics so you can see also got some videos on youtube which I'll try track down

But on another note progress on your car Wayne looks awesome!
