Can you make a VTR pop loud?

  1. #1
My mate has a 165bhp VTS and when he changes gear at 7k his cars pops like f*ck! And if hes just at like 4k and he stamps the accelerator pedal he can make it pop like 4/5 times in a row.

Is it possible to make a VTR pop like this? If all goes to plan this weekend, im buying a VTR with Raceland 421 mani & full powerflow exhaust... what else would i need to make it pop like a beyatch?

Is it all down to power?
  2. #2
mine pops when i change down or come off from full throttle. It's decatted, race centre section and 3" backbox.
  3. #3
my westcoast pops with a standerd mani and a 3" magnex, all down to the decat pipe
  4. #4
Im guessing your mate is running things like a modified head, some sort of cams, decat yadda yadda yadda to be running that kind of BHP?

I imagine the decat to be the root cause of the excessive popping and baning. Thats your best bet.
  5. #5
Yeh its cammed lol and ported and polished etc...

i mean pop loud not just little pops.

How loud do you want like? Group B rally car kind of pop? lmao

4-2-1 mani, decat, SS race system.

Popping is just unburnt fuel exploding in the exhaust, could try turning your fuel pressure up? Wouldnt run very well like.

On the subject, whats that device race / rally cars have to keep the turbo spooling all the time? I forget but they sound immense!
  7. #7
Car would pop more with a good zorst and decat. also if the fueling was screwed then it would pop alot more.
  8. #8
lol trust me i will get a video of my mates car, its crazy lol.

the car im buying has 421 mani, decat, powerflow centre, powerflow backbox.

  11. #11
yeah heard anti lag scoobys theyre well good lol.
  12. #12
Trust me mate. It will pop loud Alot louder than when you were sat in it. You'll see when you get it Just dont abuse her lol.
  13. #13
lol i definately wont abuse her, i know what saxos are like. i cannt fooking wait to drive her i want it now!
  14. #14
Forget the Powerflow exhaust, a Piper system will give you pops and bangs if that's your thing.
  15. #15
It'll bring a tear to my eye to see her go lol. Anyway, let everyone get back on topic haha. It's worth mentioning the car Kyle's getting has a FULL straight through Stainless System... Raceland Manifold with Powerflow centre section (no silencers or boxes of any kind) and Powerflow backbox with the smallest actual backbox they do.

Lmao, i had one on my Mk1 Clio. Loud as fuck and popped like you wouldnt believe! Beast of an exhaust... although they dont have much of a reputation sadly.
  18. #18
type in anti-lag evo on youtube, its on the rollers but sounds awesome.
  19. #19
Definitely nothing to do with power, my mate had a 1.1 106 and his "popped" and it was slowww.

He did have a 4" backbox on though

im having my Omex Rev Limiter with launch control fitted next week.

Cuts the spark instead of the fuel on the limtier

    Loud bangs to come tbh.

Plus im going turbo, so more fuel....

    Will upload vids when done
  21. #21
reason for backfires is over fuel or air getting into the exhaust system. will be going for the over fuel though as standard ecu are not set up to run de-cat and full system and breathing mods... would need your standard ecu set up if possible with a map done on a rolling road unless you can get power commanders for cars like you can for bikes.

basically you could in theory just drill some holes along the exhaust system so more air/oxygen gets into the system and it`ll pop and bang. pops and bangs can do damage to internals btw as the air/fuel mixture will be bad so means piston rings burn out sooner....

    hope this helps

i want to get this done to my car aswell
    i've got a piper 3inch bck box
what manifold is best to make it pop, SuperSprint or Piper?
  23. #23

or bodge the exhaust connections. so the mixtures bad. if you live in leicester and get pawned by a black zx6r spitting flames and poppin and banging thats moi. all bcoz my bikes over fuelled and has a poor connection between down pipes and link pipes... same goes for cars

4-2-1 mani and full stainless should pop pretty well mate. my last attempt at trying to get a good pop resulted in flames coming out the back and 19mpg dont mess with the fuel pressure lol

Lol i wouldnt suggest it, would make it run like shite.

But, you can get the adjustable fuel pressure regulators, i think its just a matter of turning a screw to adjust it.
  32. #32
Should a Mk1 VTR silver top pop & bang, with a standard manifold, magnex decat & magnex catback system? my mates has these mods and all he gets on down changes is a burble, ive heard vts's with a magnex system on popping/banging and putting flames out on down changes & up to the limiter, would anybody expect the above VTR to do this with the mods ive stated?

Its a T reg 1999 i think the 1s with the silver rocker cover 90bhp?
  33. #33
my 1.1 pops and bangs quite abit
4-2-1 manni, standard no silencer centre pipe, and sportex 4" and there pretty dam loud
  34. #34
My vtr does it, just need a de-cat to make it pop.
  35. #35
i can get my vtr to pop n bubble when changing gear quick or coming down and all its got is a 5" rear box.
  36. #36
also if you have a slight blow up front it will cause it to pop, mine blows at the cat very slight. my mate has a 2.2 prelude jap import and has recent put a full decat system on and the bang it makes when V-Tech kicks in is imense! it shoots a flame out the exhaust like a firework, it makes the bumper black.
  37. #37
VTS's pop & bang more when they underfuel for some strange reason...

I had the stock ECU on a few months ago, tunnels were so much fun! As in my ears hurt doing it. Lol.
  38. #38
    flame kit?
  39. #39
Mine pops, spit flames and everything.

That's because its seriously over fuelling and costing me 15mpg.

Its cool for a while then you feel like a twat when it goes BANG down the high street and everyone looks at you.

Anti-lag and two-step launch control! My mate used to have a Scooby running anti-lag... Sounded like WW3 had just kicked off when he let off the throttle.... It was a beast!

Popping could indicate an issue with the car such as overfueling.

Overfueling is not good for the engine.
  42. #42
    3 year bump?

Decat, straight through center pipe and no baffling in the backbox will make it do that.
