Saxperience - Mobile Theme(s)

  1. #1
    All,

For some time now, many of you have been asking me to setup a lite or mobile theme for using Saxperience on your mobile devices, whilst out and about. Whilst there are some drawbacks to doing this, today I'd like to get this setup and working.

There are many different ways this could be done - the way Ive currently chosen to do this is NOT to default to a mobile style if you browse using a mobile device, but instead you need to select the mobile theme, if you wish to use it (top left corner of page). If you do choose to use the mobile theme you can choose to go back to the normal theme by selecting the option at the bottom left of the mobile theme.

Whilst auto-recognition is quite simple to achieve, I personally find it quite frustrating when I browse to a site and get a trimmed down version. Please let me have your feedback on this. I figured having the choice would be the best way forward...

The current mobile theme is not 'that' trimmed down (which might not suit some of you). I only have an iPhone to test this on so I would appreciate your feedback using other devices. If some members would prefer a much more basic mobile theme, maybe we can have an option of two mobile themes to choose from??

Please give me some quick feedback and lets get this sorted out.

    Thanks
    Simo

Screen dumps of current setup: -

    Switch to mobile theme.

    Using the mobile theme.

Switch back from mobile theme to normal theme.

this looks good, finding tapatalk to be very unstable at the mo!

Tried it on my Nokia 5800 and all seems to be good. The only thing I can fault is a simple text allignment issue. Where "Username Says:" is a few pixels down off the light blue bar background.

    All else functions correctly!

testing this on my nokia 5800 and looks pretty good if you're out and about and wanting to have a browse

Just noticed it doesn't post your signature when you post something from it.

I Like this Simo, looks really good. Should be alot easier for me to access the site as well when using the Blackberry.

There are a few issues with alignment and text size/decoration. If its working in principal though, I can tidy it up. If its pretty crap though, I wouldnt waste my time trying to polish a turd

Yeh no worries! Just doing as you asked and giving feedback

    Keep it coming...

I'll check back shortly to see what the pro's/con's are.

If people prefer a different mobile theme, let me know.

    works fine on my iPhone
  11. #11
i prefer the normal view, i doubt i will be using the mobile view.
  12. #12
wow a phone with vodaphone signal mobile veiw willbe good for short term use on a phone.
  13. #13
Seems good to me, I wont use it personally as i prefer the full site view most likely as im used to it
  14. #14
As long as it's functional and IMHO optional, I think it's a winner
  15. #15
you need to check your pm's lol
  16. #16
looks good mate will be much easier than the normal way i do it
  17. #17

WHat happens - do you just get the normal version? If so, could be a cookeis issue (ie, N97 may not use them?)
  20. #20
No its all good now, was a user issue not a phone issue sorry
  21. #21
Tested on my HTC Hero, all seems good.

    Dude

I use Opera Mini on my mobile (Nokia 5800) and that squashes the full "User CP" page down to 54KB and the main Forum Index down to 48KB. Seriously good fast little browser, although a little unstable!

I do like the look of those screenshots though.

One more thing: 592 unread PM's?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Get to work dude!

Didn't load correctly on my Blackberry right earlier, but I haven't tried again - but it sometimes does that so I'd try again.

Be good though, as loading within an EDGE area is quite slow due to the size of the forum.
  24. #24
Same as Scott, it works fine, but i prefer/am used to the full view on my iPhone TBH.
  25. #25
Worked on my Blackberry. It speeds things up and its nice for when your on the go and want a quick little search

Still needs a bit of work, like the text alignment and that (may be my phone)

Like other people have said, i prefer/used to using the full virsion. I can see my self using is though.

I take it back. My interweb is dead and I only get dial up signal at home. Lite version rules
  27. #27
Just tried on my 5800. Brilliant!
  28. #28
Just tried it and all the letters in the forum names have the tops chopped off?

There are some issues with font size, depending what phone/browser you use. I may look at reducing font size to improve alignment. Alos LONG thread titles screw the lite version up.

Cant have everything though... its a LITE version for a reason

Scott - 'tis handy for on the go / gaybar signal moments

Not bad, not bad at all.

My only real gripe would be that big threads with multiple pages are a bit of a pain to navigate through since you have to skip each page individually now -instead of clicking the page number required.

Is there any scope to add the 'last post' info colum into it as it's really handy for quickly checking the most recent posts in threads??

    Other than that I'm impressed!
Its looking good -well done Simo & Scott
  31. #31
Agreed - improved page navigation and last post would be very handy.

Will try to look into that this weekend.

Like it......Although i think i will still use normal pages as im used to them lol
  34. #34
I like it! Like the fact it doesnt automatically go to the mobile theme when on a mobile device as alot of the time i like using the big version! Good call on that!
  35. #35
Now using Opera Mini and I must admit its much better on this than using the blackberry browser.
  36. #36
Much better simo, like it alot!

Wish i didn't buy tapatalk now
  37. #37
I posted that last one from my Blackberry, noticed it doesn't post signatures. Not bothered though
  38. #38
I used it on Opera Mini last night, only problem i found was that with the progress threads, you have to go through everypage to get to the last one. Poeple with 100 pages, if you want to go to page 60 would take the piss, should be a jump to page bit?
  39. #39
Yeah, I found that too - so I just switched back to the normal version to go through the progress threads.

Opera Mini is very tempremental, you found that?

Reply button doesn't work in PMs, have to click quote! That's on blackberry browser. Has been bugging me for a while!
Be useful to have last reply time and member below the forum heading too
  41. #41
    lol...592 messages unread! haha
  42. #42
I can't seem to get this to work on my Hero. Just gives me the regular page. Any ideas?
  43. #43
    justtried it on my HTC.
    Shit hot!
    Well done Simmo!
  44. #44
how can I get the mobile theme to work mine just goes the normal page
  45. #45
Simo man, loving the mobile version... my only beef is that the titles of threads can overrun on the mobile version which makes everything look a bit hieroglyphicy but it's nowt major x x x
  46. #46
looks good on my N86 Mr Simon Sir!

Would it be able to show who the last post in a thread was made by, or someway of highlighting if a new post has been made?
  47. #47
As said, jump to page # would be good. Also, where it says the time in each posts, theres no date so it looks confusing.
  48. #48
just tried it on my samsung f480 tocco looks good but a bit slow on loading up maybe just the server
  49. #49
im using it right now on my psp :d
  50. #50
This looks amazing on my new phone Simo, great to see you've implemented the shortcut to the last post of the thread -I'll be sticking to the Lite version from now on

Missing the last post function in the Scottish region threads Simo so still using the full fat version for now... Any chance of a fix when you get a chance?
