PAS, Heater fan , Rear demister Repair, with picture big guide in detail

  1. #1
Right finally fixed my problem, as I no some guys down the citroen garage and they told me what to do if I didn’t have the money to get a new barrel.

If after this guide you still dont want to try this i dont mind doing it if you live near me for a small fee and i can buy all the bits you need doesn take long at all.

Ok if all three of the above have stopped working this is what you do.

Remove the steering column cover (held on by two torx) and under the steering column is a light brown plastic connector with 2 red wires going in the right side and two brown wires coming out the left side.

Unplug the connector cut the two red wires (3/4 inches above connector) and remove as shown in the picture below.

Then you will have to strip the wirers back about a 1-cm / 10mm again shown in picture below.

Then you will need to buy this connector don’t know the term or name for this but has a rubber outer and a metal inner it needs to be big enough to host wire thickness (see picture below)

Take rubber part off then slide metal piece over one side of wire see picture below

Then put rubber over other end and connect together again shown below ☺

Then simply plug back in and enjoy your new car

You could do with linked this thread into the guide that already exists for this as the other ones more popular but the pictures have expired. You get more hits then.

As far as i can see, joining the red wires or the brown wires will do the same thing, just further up. So yes.

Meanwhile, does anyone know what Amp rating the connector would need to be?

    I see these in halfrauds:
    http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...egoryId_165626

But will an 8A connector just melt/combust? Anyone know?

Might be it's not big enough anyway, I've not looked at them in person yet. Just went on my lunch break, ignition wouldn't turn, then did and now I have the shitey trinity of faults.

What you are looking at getting is a bullet block connector

The in-line crimp connectors. Seems the easiest way, if they'll stand up to it.
  25. #25
No the bullet connector is the best and easiest way to do this as shown in first post
  26. #26
Just come accross this problem, i'll follow your guide tomorrow when i do it.

Just in case anyone doesn't know, the little coloured rubber connectors are actually called butt connectors.
  27. #27
if this is the problem and the way to fix it.. what is really the problem,
how come doing this will make them work. sorry just dont understand does that mean my ecu is crap and not working my PAS
  28. #28
It's a bypass from the barrel which is now faulty this why you have got these 3 not working and by bypassing the barrel the current can complete it's circuit
  29. #29
    will try that tommorow..cheers mate,,your a star
  30. #30
Ive just had these three problems, and my battery light had come on too, is this normal?

This might also sound stupid, but do you do this bypass thing with the engine running or not?
  31. #31
Cheers for this i did this little mod and its worked for a couple of days then it all failed again but it was due to a conection further down the line got it solderd up and its all good now good pics aswell really helped
  32. #32
Ive never had this problem with my saxos :/...ive had a 2 x 97', 2 x 99', 2 x 00 plates from a 1.4 to a vts...and non have had this problem :/, only last week all this stopped working, but it was just a fues...can you explain where the 2 red wires run to? (the other end of where you looped it) and by doing this will it not stop somthing else working/ short somthing? thanks
  33. #33
it runs to the end of the ignition barrel all the looping does it complete the circuit so they still work , so it bypasses the bad connection of the ignition
  34. #34
ah, thats all i needed to know thanks
  35. #35
had a few pm about this mod, about will it burn out the wirers extra i have been running the fix for over a year and everything has been fine apart from i had to change a fuse as my rear heaters werent working about a year after this mod but the replacement wire is in very good condition does not heat up on long cold runs with all these 3 on at the same time hope this helps have pm everyone sorry havent been on in a while

Easy fix for power steering is to take a hammer to the metal part of it while the car is off then again while it's on sound stupid but works

    Hey guys,
I had this problem with the PAS, heater and rear demister for about 4 days, i then followed the guide on page 1 and its actually worked! All three of the above are now working im so happy about that trust me so i just wanna say thank you to boarer2d004 for the guide as it has solved the problem me. Thanx Boarer2004 cyber hugs to you lol
  39. #39
Glad it worked for you my car is still running with this fix after all these years

Other faults can cause same symptoms, so check your alternator is giving 14v when engine running at battery terminals, so 14v at battery. 2. remove battery cable from alternator output and clean any corrosion. disconnecting battery beforehand and re connecting afterwards
  41. #41
First check your alternator is giving 14v at the battery when the engine is running as the alternator on some saxo cars the output lead and bolt face the brunt of water coming in through the bonnet grille. Take off the bolt and lead, clean it. Low voltage here can sometimes cause PAS, fan not working. If all OK you can look at this thread.
