Patsy - 106 Quiksilver Turbo 23/12/10 a taste t25 in 2011 (post 375 onwards)

  1. #1
Old Shed new decade etc, got my old car back quick spec it is pretty much as I left it :

    VTR inlet
    Protech 4-1
    Magnex decat system
    Avo Adjustables
    Wheel stud conversion

Immediate plan is to sell magnex (which I have done) and get standard system on, get Sciroccos on. Also got a shed load of interior stuff to go back in like all the interior bungs carpet and bits of trim, get PAS back on basically a massive tidy up.

Longer term plans after I done above get bushes for front wishbones, new arb drop links, adjust the handbrake cables, new heater matrix and maybe beam bushes aswell. Anyway pics :

  2. #2
All I've done today on this is just take the seats out kurust the whole interior, aim is to get some different front seats and start getting interior related stuff back in. Few more quick pics

  3. #3
SAVE IT GAV, SAVE IT! haha
  4. #4
    nice car
  5. #5
still looks pretty clean like mate, is the body work in good nick etc? thought you'd already polybushed it etc previousley? i await some mega plans
  6. #6
Right it is booked in next weekend for new heater matrix, oil and oil filter, 2 new front droplinks, fitting the VTS oil cooler/top hose setup, adjust the handbrake cables, also going to fit standard exhaust system back on for mot then decide what to do after that.

Also got S1 rallye inlet and S1 airbox setup to bosh on when I cba to, also got a 23mm 4port m/c along with some nice 4pots to fit end of month

Yeah bodywork is still pretty good mate nah not polybushed it yet altho depending on money I may invest in the arb, wishbone and lower engine mount ones. Rear beam ones can wait may have a look into some vibra technics engine mounts
  7. #7
sounds good to me.. my cars away to a mates lock up in the next week or so as i just dont have the space atm and the weather is too cold right now....got the car stuck outside last weekend in the snow lol, no weight with breathing mods mid spec cam and a s1 inlet didnt help me too much tbh hahah, you going dastek on the quicky?
  8. #8
Possibly but will see as I want bushes, m/c and 4pots on first before I touch the engine again mate.

  26. #26
Got a few things on way which in theory should help it past 90bhp mark on the cheap without taking the enigne apart
  27. #27
Well raptors are for sale and I ended up going for the I am poor black rallye steelies look

VTS Heater exchanger and top hose (got the hose waiting for the heater exchanger and screw bit to arrive to be fitted same time as below)
    New heater matrix (got this)
Oil and oil filter change (same time as above)
GTi cat, centre section and backbox (then sell luke the magnex)
new front arb drop links (as above other work)
    refit pas (when I cba)
fit all bungs properly back in car after I've primered the kurust bits & carpet (do this on weekend)
We to mates garage today to get quiky checked over looks to be ok swapped the raptors with near enough borderline tyres on for some uber retro ax gti 13" dustbin lids with good tyres on. Also the car needs a proper proper good clean when weather is better you can see in pics the amount of crap is there.

Also the above work to be done next few weeks when weather is much better wheels wont be to everyones taste but hey AlexB insprired the steelies will go on after mot is done as I cba changing on my drive in this weather.

GTi needed jump start as stupid boot light drained battery so sorted that and its all minty

  39. #39
looking good mate, steelies will go well i reckon!
  40. #40
those AX wheels look poor gav! good job they are only temporary
mine needs a clean and underseal when the weather picks up, we should make a day of it? lmao

    have you sold the raptors?
  41. #41
lol next time I am washing mine it is going up on axle stands and wheels off! Well wheels ain't to everyones taste but will do for now until I get the steelies repainted and 2 more tyres that match in size.

They are that poor that they are stealth lol
  42. #42
i think they look quite cool in their own right, nice bright colour and theyd be spot on, defo needs a wash underneath mind lol, take some serious jetwash action, may have some new plans now mind all will soon be revealed lol
  43. #43
ah good stuff Andy, to be fair I don't mind the wheels have a retro feel plus the look like bin lids anyway boost related loom, ecu, ignition amp, coilpack, ht leads and inlet are sorted just need to sort relevant head and injectors that should be on end of feb - begin of march
  44. #44
you going for stock internals still or poss uprated? havent really give too much away on this one, im mid way to looking through a very expensive buy will be very shiny and have some materials removed...and possibley some bigger bits fitted
  45. #45
You do realise you have 2 different sizes of tyres on the steelies???
  46. #46
yeah I do craig no worries tho as I can get 185 55 14s at a good price

Andy standard internals and run it sensibly, sounds like you got good plans, well mine is just basically a budget build but with everything running sensibly
  47. #47
sounds cool, will be good to see it up and runing as the last 1 was dead when i started following your thread, be good to see you hit 150 on the cheap though, maybe get it to some shows if its near the season? wouldnt mind you taking me for a spin in it to see what a boosted 1.1 goes like lol
  48. #48
yeah no problems andy look this is what happened near 2 years ago

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyo-ImtNWCU

wheel spin in 5th, crap tyres and in the damp lol. That was one hell of a mix setup, good ole days! Soon to be back on road with that induction kit
  49. #49
lmao that looks pretty damn quick for a 1.1 even on boost haha, you using the same kit like mate? i cant wait to receive mine need to get a shift on with the car but im low on space lol, cant wait to see this again, not fancy one of the turbo cams from cituning? cant go wrong at the price, could be the pioneer trying it out? i just wanna know what theyre like
  50. #50
nah this will be on budget and stay like that

    should be interesting anyway
  51. #51
you sure? £145 on exchange isnt too bad (for the stock camshaft)
sure you could you could make it back may just risk it myself tbh lol
  52. #52
LOL you want me to Pioneer it! nah you just wait n see how this goes will be interesting either way
  53. #53
sounds good to me.... quick quicky! haha I WANT PICCIES!!!! any ideas when youll have it done?
  54. #54
end of feb mid march will be otr with induction kit
  55. #55
Right well guess I better update this.....................

NO!!!! haha tomorrow I will do most of this

    Quote:
VTS Heater exchanger and top hose
    New heater matrix
    Oil and oil filter change
GTi cat, centre section and backbox (then sell luke the magnex)
    new front arb drop links
    refit pas
fit all bungs properly back in car after I've primered the kurust bits & carpet
  56. #56
Well got the heater matrix done what an utter fucking ballache that was!!! Dash ooot then trying to get heaterbox to sit in right place when putting dash back in was a mare! Along with the usual pain in the poo passage of putting everything back together and remember which screws went where But it is all done and the car has heat again!

Due to the aforementioned taking so long only managed to swap inlet back over, Sunday I will be cleaning the inside properly putting rest of bungs in. VTS heater exchanger, top hoses, oil/oilfilter, drop links and exhaust swap will leave until last sat of this month then do it all then.
  57. #57
doing the heater matrix is a bitch !!

The worst bit is trying to undo the clamps from the coolant hoses on the bulkhead !!

    Good job done though !!
  58. #58
Tell me about it Ross utter ball breaker!! Well today changed the wheels and did the bungs so of the list the below is done bugger all really but the rest will be done in a few weeks.

    Quote:

Well managed to finish kurusting everything and primered everything at last, will hoover the inside in a bit and wet sponge everything to get rid of the remaining crap then more primer. GTi front seats are now in much more comfy as is the temp quiky MOT exhaust.

Next Saturday will see the fitting of new rear beam, braided lines all round 4 pots and front arb drop links. If all goes well will try getting the service and heater exchanger done. Pretty much it at the moment in time but there will always be some more odds n ends to sort out. Will update with pics in a bit
  65. #65
iirc its a colour peugeot do

Right pics first the boss from pot noodle motorsport showed up with some bits and then he is under the car fitting exhaust

    Cloth GTi interior fitted

    Random up in air shot

    Few pics of boot

    Few different shots of car

    Got bored made induction kit

That would be all for now previous highleted what stuff will be done in next week or so
  66. #66
coming along nicely gav where did you source the GTi seats from? i wouldnt mind some cloth ones when your finished?
  67. #67
Why do you always put old tat in your cars? I know its a turbo and all... but it looks like you found it in a scrap yard lol!
  68. #68
    Most bloody expensive month ever!!

Tax £68.50?? odd 6months MOT £50 4 pots & pads £340, arb drop links £15, service stuff £30, braided rear lines £22. Then we have "engine stuff" £160& new beam £130 then we got fitting and brake fluid few more ££ there.

AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! oh well at least the main plan is still going ok
  69. #69
any updates? is this going to be a low boost conversion
  70. #70
updates that will be done in next 7days you wont be able to see but stuff after that probably lot better
  71. #71
    Nice car man
  72. #72

  74. #74
Craig the job in the boot doesn't matter lol was a case of kurusted everything lob some primer all over it besides got spare plastics and all the mumbo anyway Wheels small haha
  75. #75

  80. #80
    love pug quickies
  81. #81
You have got to be joking me if I am fitting anything myself that involves safety lol taking it to makes garage and he will be fitting the beam, m/c, lines and 4 pots much easier with a ramp.

Yeah Ross spot on mate by next friday everything that needs to be done will be done on "stage 1"
  82. #82
Jobs for this week entail the following, not much to do really just case of waiting for more parts to show up. Need to sort arb drop links aswell as the nuts apparently need tightening up not convinced may fit new ones

    fit 4pots
  83. #83
well more stuff done still plenty to do and more updated list!
  84. #84
All Turbo stuff cancelled for the forseeable future! Todays adventures bring one big fat juicy fail of the mot:

new rear beam bearing is fucked on the driver side
    rear pads will be needed
    horn has stopped working
emissons is also up the creek
steering rack may also need looking at!

Fucking crappy car looks like off the road yet again! Bloody bad timing!
  85. #85
Bad touch of luck there mate! Will it be the shock on teh beam or one whole side of teh beam itself?
  86. #86

Ouch, I suppose it's new rear beam time?

Rear pads aren't too bad to do (££££) nor is the horn.

Emissions could be a bit of a pain to get to the bottom of, although normally lambda.

Steering rack is the worst one tbh. - It got play in it? Could be the track rod ends? Or inner bush?
  87. #87
Ross this is on the replacement beam pads and horn are easy I agree. But with emissons it could be either lambda or the engine being to fucked as is was burning a small bit of oil so either small thing or it will kick me in the balls harder and want a new enigne.

The rack I have no clue its not the rod ends probably something in the middle, so depending on how fucked the stub is may be new bearing only or whole new tube if its that then its defo off the road, with the rack depending on how bad may just bite the bullet and get a manual one in there.

Sam see axoc looks like an ax time maybe

It on a rebuilt beam? Wip the trailing arm off and have a look, might have caught it early - if not then IMAxle time ?

Would be a good time to go for a non-power steering rack.

There's an inner bush so could be that.

    Sucks mate !
  89. #89
nah the beam was just off a gti that was supposedly good I think if I need a new beam then will be case of chuck it up to my mates and see if he can sort everything on it.

It does suck very very badly
  90. #90
Slight update thanks to miamibluebaby and jonsey tomorrow we are going to a saxo breaker local to get a VTR rear beam to fit to this, also we are going to sort some standard front struts as thats whats causing the steering issue.

So all being well running will be good and will try something with emissons so may be looking ok for monday.
  91. #91
bad crack mate, if its burning oil itl defo put your emissions up, gotta find the reason, if you end up having to fit a new rack you may aswell just find another 1.1 lump (it is a 1.4 in it isnt it?) will make it easier to fit the rack and the engines piss easy to do think posi mate!!!
  92. #92
well rear beam is defo being done with struts if all goes well tomorrow and got someone to bleed brakes to so looking good so far
  93. #93
was gonna bash on with mone but the clutch has gonein the van so thats gonn monopolise my day not looking forward to it at ALL!! lol
  94. #94
aye money situation i've worked out everything will even itself out in a few weeks so just need to sell off alot of things like avo adjustables, the raptors, gti brakes, manifold, rallye inlet few more other odds n ends should be ok
  95. #95
Would it be worth putting 4pots on at the same time seeing as rear beams off and struts off - kill 2 birds with one stone
  96. #96
Also if you want to sell that c2vts inlet come summertime then I'm your man
  97. #97
Woop woop! VTR rear beam now fitted that has no play solid as a rock also with decent pads Handbrake is mega aswell 2 clicks and bosh done! Massive thanks to miamibluebaby, jonsey and wing commande stocker for the help in getting, fitting the beam and bleeding the brakes.

With the horn I have no clue why that doesn't work anymore, steering rack is not an issue turns out to be struts so got 2 fronts stuts to fit, new arb drop links again with emissons found a friendly place.

Got some odds and ends to fit like rallye down pipe and standard manifold (thanks andrea), mist washer jets, new exhaust fitting kit along with gti cat and rallye system. So looking at it mot is looking well best part is the new beam only cost £100 so not as much money as I wanted to spend
  98. #98
happy days gav, btw i found that oil cap in the box, cheers dude
  99. #99
no problems mate it is bloody good news

and at a lovely standard height! pitty the struts were being fucktards!
  101. #101
Well horn is also now sorted old one was on its way out plus the fuse popped to so got new horn and replaced fuse Also fitted the mist washer jets which I will say is a cheap and good mod to do.

Fingers crossed mot sorted tomorrow it passes then provided I get enough time and fitting kit shows I will refit the standard manifold/rallye downpipe, gti cat and full rallye cat back system. Few random pics anyway didn't take many tbh

Dead shaggered beam off, also new struts in back ground to go on

New good beam to go on

that's it for now like would of got more pics but was more into getting everything done and out of the way

  103. #103
That's a bloody quick turnaround !!! Ready for the MOT retest !
  104. #104
lol Andy it wasn't a case of enthusiasm you know I hate working on cars but when you got good mates like miamibluebaby, jonsey and wing commander stocker helping out fitting beam etc it gets done

Ross dam right mate needed to be done as per above
  105. #105
    wahey!!! its on
  106. #106
aye provided tomorrow goes well and mot does get done then everything else will be done pretty fast and initial power upgrade will be done fast

  109. #109

Andy lol sorry mate you will have to try that I have another 8valves and another cam to worry about compression wise just a thicker hg for my spec.

    Ross dam right
  113. #113
    it's all about the extra 8v's !!
  114. #114
oooooh!!!! so this is gonna be a 16v jobby eyyyyy? wouldnt happen to be that 1.4 16v lump would it? can rmemeber you trying to shift it but not getting round to it???? as if you were going 1.6 16v you wouldnt be wanting vtr injectors would you!!! or have i missed that post thats tell us all this
  115. #115
yeah it is Andy going to use it now I know parts are going to be cheap to sort on it.
  116. #116
1.4 16v sounds very interesting. Did you have that engine in anything light like a 106 before to see what it was like? Alloy b/end ftw.
  117. #117
sounds goog to me , should be a quick little pug tbh like gav, damn sight quicker then the 1.1, have you boosted anything over 1.1 yet?
  118. #118
Jason no came straight out of a rolled 206 with 3k miles on Yeah alloy bottom end to, should be ok power wise not expecting miracles from the initial n/a run in spec. But should be comfortably faster than the oe 1.4 8v and faster than a VTR. But thats just that until the boost is ready in a few months once money situation is better.

Andy I've done the 1.1, 1.3 and thats it mate
  119. #119
oh yeah you done the rallye didnt you, i think this will be a naughty little project tbh gav, really excited to see some results, shame its not going forged though with such a decnt engine. sure you can get another if you like the results though

Sounds good. Have you checked out a TU5JP4 head to see if they can be interchanged easily? Or the valve size of the 1.4 16v vs the 1.6 JP4? I'm all questions as i was thinking about this a few years back but left the idea.
  121. #121
j4/jp4 valve size to big would require bigger cut outs think it would bolt on though but the way I am getting it done is the easiest way within reason
  122. #122
are the camshafts interchangeable, eg high lift or turbo spec?? little cammed tubby 1.4 16v be a small rocket hahah
  123. #123
Right well all things being well this weekend will see the completion of interior related matters, manifold and exhaust should also be done. After that just a case of changing struts over and fitting the brakes.

But small boost update just sorting new cambelt covers for the new engine, also have manifold and charger pretty much sorted for that aswell. Just remidial stuff after like 8v coilpack, suitable leads and usual odds and ends in theory new engine should be in for april
  124. #124
Well standard s1 rallye manifold and standard full gti system now on, what a ballache trying to get everything to seal properly!

    Notice whats wrong here?

Off in one go and one piece

    New system

    Fitted

Difference on this compared to 4-1 and magnex? Not much if I am honest goes just as good it was previously. Now all I need to do is get standard front struts fitted, 4 pots fitted, 22mm front arb then thats it done until more money comes in to sort the new engine bits.

Will get interior done next weekend as it started to rain once part way through finishing the above, just to note got myself another set of axle stands to do a proper wheels off wash under the arches and few more tools as few spanners have gone walkies

    More random pics

  125. #125
Righty so this saturday sees new struts being fitted along with brakes finally then thats it for now, got a few more things on way :

22mm front arb which I will fit with the new drop links
diesel rad and header tank, new lower rad hose and rear bleed hose
    Free Bilstein B6s
New induction kit, associated piping etc
  126. #126
struts got done the other day but few things to do before 4pots go on but they should on the car on weekend. The arb and free billies will be fitted as and when they come, other than that running gear is pretty much how I want it now.

Also got this to run the induction kit I am going to fit, only reason I changed to this from the predator is because locally there is someone I know who maps them well and will do it at a good price to me.

more pics of the car at standard 4x4 height and brakes on weekend.
  127. #127
nice work, nice one with the mot pass, was it hard to fit the rear beam? how long does it take? always like reading through your threads buddy.
  128. #128
not done yet gav, slacking fella
  129. #129
took about 2 hours to fit with other mates wasn't that bad as we was taking another disc beam off. Cheer bud should have some more interesting stuff for yous to read soon.

LOL Ad, right chore today! one bolt is like a 3/8th size random just need to get 2 bolts off and turbo is sorted
  130. #130
all ready to go on. i cant moan about your progress. i still aint attched my rear and front bumper properly, fitted my pink rocers and my braided hoses. so you know
  131. #131
in reality if I want this pos to run the above is it.

But I've got a shed load of bodywork plans to sort out aswell spethal change
  132. #132
Updates!! right new front arb is coming next week so that with drop links be done, also the free bilstein b8s will be fitted once I've sorted some springs in a few weeks.

But engine wise it is dieing a slow and unceremonious death valve stems going and something else, so parts for the 1.4 16v are being acquired so that can be fitted asap

Pics of brakes anyway 265mm 4 pots

  133. #133
fuck me ive missed loads of progress on this gav!!!, im thinking of getting a loan to cover all the costs of my loose ends, few bills are getting the better of the build and ruining my chances of moving forward!! but you car is flying along now mate, why cant i see any of the recent pics though?
  134. #134
I'd take time mate next month or two for me is no car parts whatsoever as I need to pay off recent splurge on card again but needs must etc can't see pics I dunno mate you special lol?
  135. #135
    Brakes look tasty!
    1 user thanked this post:
  136. #136
dunno what to do dude, its either loan up and consolidate it all or scale the build back somewhat.... and i dont really wanna scale bck lmao. pics have loaded now haha.... but yes i am indeed special..... well at least thats what my mother tells me lmao, brakes do look good aswell, you leaving em that colour or painting them up?
  137. #137
Going to leave them that colour mate cba painting them pink tbh! what you need to think about is take a loan out to get your nitty gritty done can you afford to pay out every month on the loan aswell as do your usual stuff?

Mr Supercharger dam right they look well they stop as good as they look
  138. #138
well im paying one any way so was thinking of exteneding it for the same monthly payment as its nearly finished (well 12 payments or a chunk upfront) so i figure once the car is done... the sooner the better, the sooner i can pay off my debts lmao, had a good think and to me this seems the best option, as im losing money left and right to the car but have to account for bills.... so cant put my all or even commit alot each month, it it gets finished i know where i stand each month.... and can then fuck the loan off with whats left?... the choices lmao
  139. #139
Up to you Andy if you think that is what best suits your situation then go for it, obviously if it is saving you money to!

Well here are the rear billies, also got some gti wishbone braces to fit to but as in previous posts these will be fitted when the fronts arive along with the arb

Oh and I am going back down to 14s

  140. #140
Nice lookin Quicksilver there mate (Y) keep it up.

Been keeping my eye on these kits, nice to see they are having good reviews. Did they fit straight on with no hassle?
  142. #142
The calipers do aye but you need to get an early 266mmx20mm disc and get 1mm turned off the diameter so its 265mm otherwise as per normal, depending on what pad you use aswell they do need a good few miles bedding in properly before they bite your nads off.

I did around 60miles varying braking during and now they are utterly amazing
  143. #143
But turbo related news downpipe is getting the final mods done to it so it is bit more tidy same thing with the adapter. Turbo itself I've had a play with so orientation is right so with boost pipe routing I have a good idea on what to do.

Parts wise all I realistically need is in all honesty not alot.
  144. #144
    Sounds awesome !!!!

You must have a treasure chest of parts in your garage !!

Not long now until it's running boost then ?
  145. #145
Gav let me refurb your raptors, they are desperate for some fresh paint and laquer

    Keep up the good work

going by the above Ross sump is at mates along with the adapter and downpipe getting the work done on it, oil feed and return will sort that closer to when its needed but rest of the stuff is just order off ebay in a few weeks time.

replace garage with bedroom lol boost looking realistically end of april/begin of may time. Oh need you to work something out 8.5psi should be about 120bhp ish well going on the principle of 7.5psi = 50% increase if mapping is good means on a 75bhp engine around 112.5bhp. But injectors wise been thinking 98bhp vtr ones if they can flow that tiny bit more for boost or just get some mi16/gti6 ones so the duty cycle is not so high.

lol I am selling the sciroccos mate so raptors are going back on but if they are scruffy no worries part of the stealth
  147. #147
what about some vts injectors? Or are they too short for the fuel rail?

I've not looked at them so can't say for sure? vts ones will easily see 110bhp if you keep the 3.5Bar fpr I would have thought, vts ones seem to top out at 160bhp, 33% ontop of their oem bhp.
  148. #148
vts ones are to short unless they do long versions? I think will try some VTR 98bhp ones when I am closer to getting more stuff then should be an interesting one this seeing as it will be on a budget again but with all the right bits and what not to do like last time haha
  149. #149
    patsy lookin sweet murdoch
  150. #150
    cheers faceman!

few more parts on way dv, boost gauge, vac hose, sparkies and map sensor
  151. #151
    looking good mate!

lol, and the dump valve is fairly big too

the noise that dump valve will make should be deafening !!
  156. #156
thinking which parts of the puzzle i should order next now, pipes, hoses etc or more of the other stuff
  157. #157
I'd be tempted to order pipes last so you can get them to fit perfectly? Or you already know the lengths/angles you need ?
  158. #158
well boost gauge, spark plugs and appropriate silicone t piece for above has been ordered. This is what I need to complete Ross on the "Cold Side" of the induction kit I need to order

    2 x 2" pipe 180mm, 1 x 2" pipe 300mm, 1 x 2" 90 dgree pipe
    3 x 90degree 2" hose, 5mm vac pipe

than thats the cold side done. Then "hot side" & "control"

    oil feed/return
    sump
    the rejigged adapter and downpipe
    gti6/mi16 injectors
    boost map sensor

I think that will be done just about ish!
  159. #159
The price of silicon hoses soon adds up !!! Been pricing a few up today and around £20 a hose it will easily be over £100 on hoses

Not a lot to do really, hot side shouldn't be too much £££ needed ?
  160. #160

  161. #161
hot side will be bugger all mate sub £100 to cover that side

In regards to silicone hoses and pipes have a look on ebay as they are cheaper than dt and rally design decent quality aswell. I think my bits there looking at 60-80 worth of more bits
  162. #162
Right update just went on an ebay spending splurge to get more parts so it looks like the cold side is now complete updated list as per below with prices it has cost so far anything in bold is already here / been bought and on way:

    adapter £free
    turbo £free
    downpipe £free

oil feed / oil return £20
    sump mod £10

    dump valve £16.39
    Intercooler £free
    boost gauge £17.94
    NGKBCR8ES spark plugs £11.29
    dump valve t piece £19.99
    2 x 2" pipe 180mm, 1 x 2" pipe 300mm, 1 x 2" 90 dgree pipe
    3 x 90degree 2" hose, 5mm vac pipe £82.39
    boost map sensor £29.50
    Mi16 Injectors £20.50
    Dastek Q Chip £65
    jubilee clips £5

There are probably a few things I have missed and still to buy, but grand total for this turbo build is so far - £298

But good news is most of this will do for now until I get a few bits off ross for the 16v more towards summer time, but got mapping sorted for this at a really good price to
  163. #163
    296quid?! That's mental!!!

I'll look out the parts when I get home tues/wed for you!!
  164. #164
Yeah thats cool Ross take your time you know what my aim with this part of the project is anyway lol Even if we added cost of turbo making adapter / downpipe still be sub £500, does go to show if you know the right people / willing to look for good bargains then its all good
  165. #165
its like being a kid at christmas when alot more stuff comes!
  166. #166
I agree, unwrapping parcels to see bargains inside!!!

We need pics of all these bits
  167. #167
pretty much everything on the bottom list I'll get a group shot in the week lol, see how things go and how busy I am next weekend may be tempted to fit half the stuff
  168. #168
Good work Gav! Can we not tempt you into the Tesco Value diet for a few weeks till the car gets done?
  169. #169
actually I will be for next few weeks now mate as I got pretty much everything I wanted now in that splurge there may be some odds n ends like usual. I will have to have a think and see if I need anything else won't be much if I do
  170. #170
One slightly more serious update engine wise I've started some small prep work but cleaning it down properly jet wash at home, also finally cleaned the rocker cover out so it is free of mayo from when the heater matrix exploded one the last lad who had it. Hopefully this will confirm that there aren't any other problems.

Had the car running up to temp as per normal to check for any smoke and well it ain't that bad now so looks like it is shit that is still in the system or the valve stems ain't that bad so I think before I drop the oil changing the sumps over I will run some oil thinner crap through it just to flush the system out then new oil will go in.

But looking at the way things are going the layout of the small intercooler, pipework and air filter will be very neat this time. So looks like all systems go from April as the last few bits that are needed in above list will be easy to get and any other sunderies won't be much but looks like we are on course for a sub £800 build lol
  171. #171
Rock on !!! Sub £800 build is awesome !!!
  172. #172
£298 in parts so far then will have say £300 in mapping £35 on new box oil, engine oil and filter then rest on a better clutch so budget wise looks to be just under £800 or just a smidge over but either way the way it is being done this time it has everything needed to run low boost reliably
  173. #173
Well the shed has even more toys today!
  174. #174
    we need pics !
  175. #175
all in good time Ross oh also got some tyres for the raptors 2 contis and 2 goodyears for £56 nuggets

God that dump valve is going to be loud !!!

Liking the sillicon hoses, what's the quality like? They off ebay ?

Not much left on your list now !!!! Chop chop
  178. #178
haha the quality is pretty good Ross I'll get more pics in a bit yeah all off ebay and the guy is decent dead helpful plus the pipes are good to being the flared type will be good.

Yes the DV is bit big ain't it haha
  179. #179

believe it or not this is the layout of how everything will go pretty simple layout. I/C although small is more than enough for what I will be running will also keep everything stealthy
  180. #180
stealthy as it may be that noise of that hisser will give it all away in due time! lmao, looking good mate, nice update...... we likes the piccies

tbh the dv is big haha but I honestly do not know how loud it will be, more pics due over weekend I think
  182. #182
i await, im booking in a week off the week after next to get the car moving ofrward, need it on the road now as my vans ins is out in 3 weeks, will turbo it after this once andys pulled his finger out lol
  183. #183
few more pics in a bit but will be simple layout stuff in the bay
  184. #184

Crude but rough layout looking at it looks like only small mods are needs so that will be smaller radiator custom top hose, but may it be fate or just bad luck if some of you remember when I originally got this car back in 2007 the original engine decided to die (HG related issues) and the 1.1 went in.

Well looks like the last 2 guys who had the car not the guy who I sold it to have done a good job killing the current engine as HG is starting to go slowly so engine wise I will leave it up to you guys to think what is going in........
  185. #185
what happend to the 1.4 16v?
  186. #186
being built up still costing a bit that!

on other news more turbo related parts on way so looks like I have a good choice in terms of fmic etc etc now
  187. #187
weather was finally good enough today to get the carpet back in with some hoovering done to, also changed steering wheels over aswell few pics of todays work

just waiting for a few things to show namely my gti front arb, lower rad hose and some other bits then more progress can be made. Will have it lowered again but not until I've got everything else done think lowering will be the last thing I do.

But on engine related news the current 8v is ok no HG worries at all compression test came back spot on, plugs looked good to so looks like it is down to the short journeys I do still get turbod mind you! The 1.4 16v is also going good guns ordered cambelt cover and some other bits for it so that will be physically ready soon then just small amount of work once it is in.
  188. #188
    What power you hoping for?
  189. #189
Good to see its still progressing Gav. Good news on the HG as well
  190. #190
aye Andy it is good news mind you I am pretty skint now so only things being done for next 6-8 weeks is just getting the front arb on with drop links when here and thats it.

Sorted deal out with Karl so pretty much all turbo bits will be sorted in terms of piping, i/c and other small odds n ends.

This is the other thing I fitted today standard lower wishbone braces that come on 16vs, XSi and Rallyes

  191. #191
Right small update the 1.4 16v is being built up slowly experimenting with a J4 head on the ET3 bottom end and seeing what needs doing etc so that is going to be long term that one don't think I will see that in car until mid to end of summer. In the mean time due to the current 1.4 8v sewing machine not knowing whether is dieing or just generally being crap it is being replaced, all I will say it is going full circle to what it was 3 years back.

Turbo related stuff also pretty much got everything I need now will sell off any bits I won't need so there may be a full intercooler kit with hoses and pipes going, dv etc etc

Also refitted the raptors today few pics of them below and how the 4 pots look behind them Will fit GTI front ARB and new drop links next weekend when they come will also do a proper clean on it with wheels off etc

  192. #192
Well the car went on an unorthodox diet loosing lots of weight, I gave it a wash!! The last 2 guys who had the car didn't exactly wash it much and lots of mud/cow shit under arches under the car/bumpers etc. The below is the result also please note I am not a cleaning whore so this was a quick 20min job, some day I may invest in a foam lance/clay bar if I cba

On other news GTi arb has shown up along with new bottom hose these will be fitted pretty soon, more 1.4 16v engine build stuff on way like inlet/tb etc thanks to raunchz, J4 head and some other "stuff". Also got some Group N mounts in a week or so to.

Turbo stuff on hold for now as sorting the new engine is a priority once thats done and running which will be in next 6-8 weeks the turbo will go on, can safely say all turbo stuff has been bought and nothing else is needed probably got a fair few spares to sell on
  193. #193
Fitted the GTi ARB before this is what you get

Old quiky arb and dead drop links

GTi ARB and new drop links

Thats pretty much it for the running gear for now will lower it again at some point but more important things before that happens. Engine wise since this engine for some reason is still going looks like the turbo stuff will be going on it may still do a head swap hg etc since the 1.4 16v is a bit off right now.

Also paid for the rest of the bodywork parts off Alex and group n engine mounts off Spiros, bodywork revamp will be happening june/july time. The group n mounts will be fitted at same time as turbo stuff think I will be refitting the Sciroccos aswell later. Random pic of 4 pots

So up to date spec :

    Suspension / Brakes / Wheels

    Disc Beam with 22mm ARB
    OE GTi front struts/dampers/springs
    GTi front ARB
Gronholm Motorsport Hipsec 265mm 4 pots
    15" Sciroccos

Engine / Box (to happen in next 3-6 weeks)

    1.1 engine
adapted standard manifold, IHI RHB51 turbo, DIY downpipe
    adapted sump
    FMIC
    200mm flywheel and clutch
    Bailey DV
    Dastek Q chip

Thats just the basic get me by spec for now obviously a few more other things like oil feed, returns, boot pipes, hoses etc
  194. #194
    wicked car
  195. #195
nice work gav, ive just realised how close fcs issssssssssssssssss
  196. #196
Few small updates in terms of parts acquired

later mpi head from 4 plug car
VTR inlet and tb cable bracket from a later car also
    group n engine mounts
    new bottom rad hose
    200mm flywheel and clutch
    1.1 box

still to get hg, head bolts, cambelt kit and slim oil filter. But thats about it for the repair before boost goes on which will be very soon after.

Thanks go out to Sunderz for sorting the head, miamibluebaby for the bracket and AlexR for the flywheel n clutch (although I still have to pay you!) Also to the big Spethal man AlexB for sorting the bobywork related stuff

The above will give me a good solid base to work on for turbo related stuff, this will basically be a good spec alround. The bigger with more badness related car will be done as and when.

looks great keep up the good work

Looks excellent, nice to see someone being different here

Quick question, is there any reason you've chosen the MPI head as opposed to any other 1.1 head? I apologise if this has already been answered elsewhere.

1.1 spi stuff is no go they are basically crap, the later 1.1 mpi heads are the same as the 1.4 heads just cam difference valves are the same as are inlet and exhaust port sizing.

Ok update time pretty much got all the parts I need now from the previous list head is being sent next week as is the new clutch setup, going to order the HG belt etc this weekend.

Everything being built onto new block so I can just get it dropped in nice and easy, so it is pretty much go go go for 1 bar
  202. #202
    More bits to finish car

    Spax adjustables with eibach springs
rear beam, front arb and front bone buses
New HG, Cambelt kit & water pump
    Standard wing mirrors
    service kit
    200mm flywheel and clutch

all that stuff will be here in next 10days will update again tonight as pretty sure few things missing

Right well in regards to this massive bag of poo the new head is here along with the relevant rebuild bits are here, new box also sorted. Plenty more to see on this over next few weeks, probably down to nun of the eaton shire soon
  205. #205
and on the 6th day god said "thou shall have a big intercooler, shiney pipes and a loud poo valve"

So pics of that in the morning! Otherwise business as usual since the GTi is getting the 1.4 16v and being more of a good daily drive this can get all the proper attention so in order of what getting done

This weekend group n engine mounts fitting, next weekend lowerage & rear braided lines, weekend after that which would be 1st week of July HG, cambelt service. Then throughout July diesel rad and header tank, 200mm flywheel and clutch setup, new box. Plus get new downpipe made up and adapter sorted properly then its all go for launch mapping etc begin of August.

well you can either have the one in the pic the bigger one which is taller is in the last pics but you can see it all as the rest of it is behind the number plate
  214. #214
Whether or not this is any signifance or interest to you lot but the new engine has been built and is ready to go in (at no cost to me I may add! ) so guess this is a watch this space and see what stupid result I get this time.

But it is all looking towards a better result
  215. #215
Right well car has gone to mates garage for some work which consists of

lowering, group n engine mounts, rear braided lines.

Pick it up during the week sometime, which will be in time for the hg head etc next weekend. So all in very busy few weeks ahead
  216. #216
    Liking the progress Gav!
  217. #217
Some very good progress Gav I bet your pleased with how it's going.
    Front looks really mean

Do the silicone hoses not need clips to hold them on or is something else keeping them on?

Love the progress, get a vid ASAP!
  218. #218
    cheers Andy

Aly yeah defo happy this is going better taking time and planning it right so everything ain't getting rushed The I/C and pipes is just mock up so I know were everything goes / routed should all be ready soonish end of july/begin of august for mapping all being well
  219. #219
right pick the car up tomorrow lowering, brake lines and engine mounts will be done.

Bad news is due to job situation turbo is on hold for a good while now although I will do what I can if it cost bugger or free to move things along
  220. #220
nothing got done due to massive problems with stuff being way to seized on the front end and not beam! So lowerage has been put back a week along with rear lines but on much happier news the ecu mount being done tomorrow along with hg, cambelt, new head.

Few pics of the stuff before, the during and after will happen tomorrow

The below shall be fitted in the morning before mates come down to do above

After tomorrows activities all I have left to do is lowerage and rear lines and fit turbo
  221. #221
Well massive thanks to Lex and Rich of BDMotorsport for the work they put in today also to my mate Tom who also put a hand in helping with a few odds n ends.

So HG, Belt, lower rad hose and mounts got sorted today all i rosey in this garden now But sweet baby Jesus the last HG was properly boned and Head was completely boned to no thanks to previous owner, pretty amazed the it didn't die sooner as you will see the HG just became caramelized turd paper!! Was loosing water/coolant left right center really did not know how it last 6 months!

Yes you are seeing that right! proper cunt punted that one! Would of got few more pics but didn't think to as just binned all the dead stuff

above near finished article will get more pics tomorrow as there are a few more jobs as need to extend wires for temp sensor plug and get new lower mountings for alternator as something again last person has just left off

But other than that car started up idled fine after finding itself, system been bled but will do that again tomorrow. Lex & Rich need a mention again as Rich actually took time to do the tappets properly and to be fair they needed doing as was way out on both exh/inlet sides, also Lex did well on aload of the other stuff which to be honest I would of had no patience for.

Tomorrow will be 3 small jobs and then next saturday will actually get the fucker lowered
  222. #222
yoyoyo gav man!!! .......i got a new toy quicky is history, any parts you want give me a pm, dirt cheap for easily saleable... and not so easily if you pay postage its yours bud, i just wanna make back what it owes me so i can scrap it and mush on with my sexy black 02 vtr!!

BTW im loving the progress!!!! that hg is well fooked looked like my old clio one haha
  223. #223
lol Andy you changing your car again but then again new one looks much better.

    Right jobs and times :

Tomorrow - Go scrappy get bits for lower part of alternator bracket, extend wires for temp gauge plug, give system a small bleed up. Clean up crap from inside, take for test drive.

Next weekend - Get it lowered and rear brake lines

Then thats it mission accomplished for a few weeks/months pending job situation, will be a few cosmetic things like bumpers and spoiler but they can wait for now.
  224. #224
i had to gav, was all set to go this morn then it wouldnt start(vt ecu locked), vans playing up and not boosting all the time atm so i decided i needed a new car as a daily (been about 15 months now) sax is sweet!!, can do the tubby in a 4 day weekend once everything is sorted, sensible option mate lol, need one now haah

well thats all jobs set for today done need to get new temp sensor for gauge mind you as looks like mine is bit boned with the needle not even moving but thermostat is fine doesn't overheat gets up to temp nicely.

Finished article again big thanks to Lex & Rich of BDMotorsport and also to Wing Commander Stocker for his continued help.

Just next weekends stuff to do and ba ba boom all done until I can get a new box then will do clutch at same time

thats a bargain! still whole 106 gti for 450 im pretty sure the whole turbo set up is going to end up being cheaper than what was thought

Right update on this few more parts being sorted tomorrow

    oil feed
    oil return
    sump mod
    clutch

But once above sorted will get it all fitted and then will also have predator and wideband in a few weeks time so all in this will be go go go august time
  240. #240
New alloys on way some lovely 13s, spacers and bolts aye!
  241. #241
Looks lovely, cant wait to see it with some new wheels!
  242. #242
  243. #243
Righty spacers for wheels are here so they will be fitted on Thursday. Also got 1.4d lower rad hose, 1.4d radiator, slim line fan coming so will fit along with the header tank I got off Shaun (cheers bummer) on the weekend, why fit that setup? Gives me more space for the turbo bits
  244. #244
    Sounds good gav!!

more bits here ready for weekend, capri wheels and spacers on tomorrow tho

    ]

rad, lower hose, slim fan, header tank
  246. #246
That rad is huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge! Nice work Gav.
  247. #247
looks good gav, that rad hose, does that outlet get used for water cooling?
  248. #248
It's small really Aly lol Andy no mate its for the bottom take off for the header tank

the turbo I have is oil cooled only the spare I have is water cooled
  249. #249
Started at 10am packed up and finished pretty much by 11.15am before it started raining. All I've got left to do is extend the wiring for the sensor in the rad and wire up the fan which I will do this afternoon weather being good, need to tidy up the small overflow hose and extend it so it goes round the back of engine instead of how it is now.

So all in not much really, if you want to run a similar setup may it be for N/A or Boost it is the cheapest and easiest setup to sort out
  250. #250
Looks a tidy setup mate - this is the route I'm going to go.

Is it just a header tank with 2 outlets, one connected to the drivers side top of the diesel radiator, and the other is 'T'd into the bottom rad hose?

    Sounds simple enough to do!!
  251. #251

Yeah mate 2 outlets one to bottom hose and top of rad for overflow, I didn't use a tpiece in the bottom hose I just got a 1.4d lower rad hose which went right on. Need to tidy up a few things in a moment did the wiring I needed to do before on the fan and switch
  252. #252
Looks a sweet setup mate, plus plenty of room on the drivers side of radiator for a charger suppose this setup almost bleeds itself?

Progress is looking good mate!!! Almost road worthy?
  253. #253
it almost does just going out to check it now again, its roadworthy now but with turbo bits thats a few weeks off yet selling some parts to fund finishing this off
  254. #254
Right more done on this today went out to bleed the car up again after leaving the header tank full yesterday after its initial bleed up session, open cap no fluid me thinking oh shit whats up so squeeze hoses can hear it gurgle checked connection on back all fine and lower one on rad fine to, checked the top hose yup has a crack that has decided to expose itself overnight

But got one sorted, going to SORN the car tomorrow and retax in a week or two but everything seems ok so far no issues to note pretty much in definitive spec before the boost stuff goes in
  255. #255
got better spacers on way hubcentric with center bore reducing to suit my reylands

Also got more stuff sorted for engine new top hose, loom, ecu, tb, coilpack and some sensors they will be fitted in time, not to much more to report right now but pics will be up on weekend as will have probably retaxed it by then
  256. #256
Ok update of sorts braided lines all round and VTR M/C fitting on saturday morning along with temp xsi brakes thus reylands be fitted same time

On a more serious update I've been in touch with Broga Racing and he is happy to redo my adapter and downpipe for me price is pretty good to, also Big Jim Racing is making caliper brackets for the APs so I can run 247mm oe disc all very exiting stuff which should see everything done this month
  257. #257
well this is a totally unexpeted one if I am honest!

Monday 23rd of August will mark the day that this car moves under its own steam via some BOOST! yes you heard it right on the road driving Monday 23rd! Few things to do between then but thats simple stuff like brake bar adjustment, rear lines on the easy side of things.

Monday will be a case of uprated clutch and fitting all the gubbins as the adapter, downpipe plus sump being done this week getting oil feed and return next sat. Pretty much it as I have everything else I need already, sorry for another one without pics but it's just news at the moment but bloody good at that!

  263. #263
Quite like those alloys mate, suit it.
  264. #264
tbh Ant I like them aswell but I just have that unsure feeling over it. Did the pressures before and cleared the car out certainly drives lots better now, still need to do something about the rad hose either later or tomorrow then bleed the system again.

Pretty much all systems go for the big day now

I see where your coming from. Tbh they look OEM, like the quicksilvers where out of the production line with that style of alloy. But ofc they arn't and I've never seen a set of those ford alloys on a 106 so pretty unique .
  266. #266
to true mate, well either way everything I need to do is done for the day time to kick back and relax then bring on Monday 23rd it will be Merry Boostmas!

  276. #276
sounds epic! did you use the bolts aswell fitting the spoiler?
just got one in the garage for mine but was unsure on gettin rid of the bolts as holes would have to be drilled!
  277. #277
    The boostage has started!
  278. #278
I'm really looking forwards to mapping this one!!

Gav - what injectors and fuel pressure you running? I just want to start doing the maths for the map and getting all the ducks lined up

    Andy
  279. #279
I think I, along with the majority of the forum are eagerly anticipating the outcome of this project ;D
  280. #280
Did plenty today but please bare in mind that everything as it is now is just work in progress until the weekend as I need to order a few more odds and ends. This is mainly to route the boost pipes the way I want and not the compromise it is now.

Not the best pics but you get the idea, list of jobs as follows

    * Smaller fan
    * More suitable Injectors
    * Sort better oil return (similar issues to Si but the turbo is fine)
    * Redo wring on rad for fan switch & wiring to fan
    * Order a few more boost pipes and hoses
    * Sort wideband
    * Wait for Andy "predator" Hammond to come up and map it all
  281. #281

So not much more till it's up an running properly then, will it be making it to trax?

Also I may be able to help you out on the injector part, I've got lex's injectors he ran on his furio with boost, they are 310cc @ 3bar from a Volvo, they are the same shape as the injectors in one of the pics in this update

I no longer require them and have got them up for sale if your interested? 60posted?
  284. #284
Ahhhh i can see the pics now

    Looking good - merry boostmas
  285. #285
well the spending never stops just ordered a smaller slim line fan with fitting kit, gauge pod plus the extra hose/pipes (1 x 90 deg 2" pipe, 1 x 2" straight, 1 x 90 deg hose & 2" straight hump hose).

All this in the name of making it look tidier than it is now so by end of week should have it looking more like how it was in mock up will give me chance to sort better oil return and the wiring stuff to! I wouldn't say after that there won't be much to do as there will defo be plenty!

    Cheers Andy and Mr Sunderz

Chris they are to big looking at something vts level if I am honest but not vts ones as they are to short

And Merry Boostmas to you to Mr M!
  286. #286
    looking good m8,
will be a little animal when done
predator will be cool for it to.
  287. #287
cheers Adz I hope so plenty of work to do this week when bits show up and need to sort some injectors out aswell
  288. #288
Okey dokey another of spin the wheel of boost-tune! From the list mentioned in previous post I have ordered smaller slim line fan with new fitting kit, RST injector those will be fitted later in the week along with wiring the fan up and then to a switch inside the car next to the headlight adjuster.

Got the boost pipes and hoses today fitted them and made everything look a million times better, still need to sort oil return proper which I will do on weekend. Also got new gauge pod so instead on being in the center console I will stick it on top of the HU on the dash.

So along with the above I still need to sort

    * Seal DP to exhaust join better
    * fitting VTR M/C and braided rear lines, adjust brake bar
    * Elise Seats
    * WB and Predator

    anyway more pics!

As you can see with below pics it is a tad busy down there

Also with the tidying up plenty of room for the fan now

Oh and who said rain should stop you working on your car if it ain't that bad lol
  289. #289
    Loving it Gavina!

Rain doesn't have tp stop play unless you are using electrical items. The two dont mix well
  290. #290
haha I know Mr K tongue in cheek to be fair it was only light drizzle so wasn't bad. Next few days should be good again if fan and injectors show I will fit them, then weekend I will do the rest going to do a job list later
  291. #291
this is sweet! Cant believe ive not noticed this thread yet!...

Really confusing pictures recently but gives an impression, certainly alot going on in that engine bay

    Keep it up!
  292. #292
loving the progress mate, ive turned to the dark side unfortunatley..... im looking for a 16v lump, if you know of any conversions going cheap please get in touch!!!

oh and do hurry up with this im geting rather excited!!!!
  293. #293
    I have a JP4 engine for sale Andy £200
  294. #294
whats included? jp4 as in c2 yes?
  295. #295
jp4 as in c2 yeah basically its just a bare engine no inlet and exh mani just head block covers complete
  296. #296
hmmmm gonna try find a full or near full conversion, but if i can find all parts required at a reasonable price i may take it off you, runs the same pistons as j4 jah?
  297. #297
size wise yes but as standard no piston cutouts but if your going forged wont make a diff as you will use j4 stuff anyway

tell you what trying to sort injectors is turning out to be a right mare!! 1st the mi16 ones sort of work but one of them may be slightly dead, so get some rst ones again they sort of work but wont idle or rev for shit! the VTR ones seem to be ok but I am pretty sure they will be to small.

Then again only aiming to get 120/130bhp for now
  298. #298
It'll never work Gav. You have no idea what you're doing......

Looking good though mate, can't believe I hadn't noticed this thread sooner. I thought you'd given up boost for a while

Will keep an eye on this
  299. #299
well to be fair I managed to sort a few things out to let me do this so it ain't to bad now haha but still as said sorting injectors right now is right pain in the poo
  300. #300
Right ok not overly much to do if I am honest (4 things which will take about a day to do once I got all bits) before Andy "Predator" Hammond pays me a visit in a few weeks with ecu to map the thing up

But any back to road test now I have ironed out most the issues all I can say is sorted the boost issue and it boosts much better now comes on song very early also plenty of torque steer it's defo better than my gti if driven right
  301. #301
    Good effort mate
  302. #302
more updates need new boost controller as the one I have is crap, it didn't matter what you did to the controller right down closed or right open it was always above 1 bar give or take a few psi. Previously was running about 8psi previously with the controller in there glancing at the gauge was about 16/17psi which was way to high very very fast but to much.

Need to get something ordered tonight thats better and in car adjustable and get it down to 12/14psi

well sorted the boost controller out now boosting at just under a bar now also fitted new 185cc injectors and 4 bar fpr courtesy of the legend ryanmt running some injector cleaner stuff through just now and it looks like a fuel filter change is on cards as it looks like the rough running is down to crap in lines and filter.

As when left to run with the stuff in you can noticeably tell that its getting better. Oh also got my subframes for my elise seats
  304. #304
Ok time for an update, road testing has gone well boost is set at 12psi now, the new 185 cc injectors and 4bar fpr have been fitted thanks to the legend ryanmt. Also thanks to my mate Tom for doing one of the other jobs I needed to he rewired the fan and added a manual switch to all done very neatly, provided weather holds out tomorrow I will clean the underside of the sump and sort the oil return properly plus kurust the underside of the boot them zinc primering the lot.

Bar that mapping booked in for Sat 18th, got a few bits on way like upper n lower braces plus the more important WB with gauge Got a few extra longer ish term things like Elise seats, fitting the bigger m/c, rear lines and AP 2 Pots In terms of bodywork will be redoing the spoiler, mirror tops and front bumper in next few weeks obviously got interior related stuff thats still needs to be sorted out but that can be done in time, plenty of little things that will need to be done aswell to neaten things up but again will take time on that stuff to get it good
  305. #305
Plenty of work on your hands then!

I hope its all good at the end of next month Gav
  306. #306
Update sounds good who's mapping it gav? look forward to more pictures, looks great so far
  307. #307
so what ecu is on it atm? have you been testing it un mapped? im back to vtr turbo again, house is more inportant(and hav found a nice 3 bed flat i want lol),
    few quetions for you mate:

    what actuator you running? stock?
how well did your 5th injector set up work out last time?

decided at least for the near futture its getting done mf2, i have 1 here so its all good lol
  308. #308
    Sam easy lol

Wayne it will be Andy "predator" Hammond doing the mapping

My geordie friend testing has been done with a mf2 bodged on for now just to set boost pressure and nothing else just to get it running roughly, actuator is standard 8.5psi but got a controller on to up to 12psi. MF2 if setup right is ok and no problems but mine aint lol but will do just to test few things.

Last time it wasn't that great as I had loom problems
  309. #309
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kxRM...eature=recentu

not that great but then again it was only running mf2 crudly setup

Should be good once mapped runs quite smooth in the video, will be even better on the predator i thought you was going OMEX 600 Ecu? or is that for the cherry one?
  311. #311
omex will be eventually for the 1.4 16v engine wayne but thats if and when for that one lol

Ah right i get you was getting rather confused so the Omex will be going on the cherry gti you have? all takes time with these projects i've got a long wait with mine to get engine built as i've got to save up hard for what i want from my car.
  313. #313
car looks wicked mate, would love to see a video of this out on the track when its completed

no gti is going to a mate hopefully this 1.4 16v will be in a flat arch of some sort but that as I said is as and when lol yeah takes time hence why I am taking time with this one. Doing the right thing save for the right parts get it done right first time

cheers twist chances of this being on track aren't high but who knows I may do Llandow next year
  315. #315

Looks like it goes well and sounds mint too.

oh got my delivery from raunchz today upper n lower braces plus my WB wooo
  317. #317
Okies since I got more parts means more graft on weekend will fit the upper n lower braces, fit right coolant top hose, sort oil return better, rebleed system with good coolant.

Also will trial fit the AP 2 pots plus 283mm discs see what they are like will be fitted eventually with some other upgrades, one step closer to fitting the elise seats to as got the subframes for them any pics of parts

  318. #318
    looking good m8,
goes well by the looks of things and can only get better
    awsome stuff dude
  319. #319
Cheers Adz, will be loads better once w/b and predator is on a week saturday let me know when you are getting rid of your shafts and interbearing holder as will still have them off you.
  320. #320
    loving the "turbo pop"
seems to go quite well even tho uv bodged it together for time being in effect

makes me want to boost mine
  321. #321
have now witnessed the quiky for real, and the video does not do it justice, this is a quick car unmapped! once the wideband and ecu are on and mapped it will be immense
  322. #322
aye will be good come next weekend better than whats on now anyway lol

oh got the front bumper on and mines the darker silver so I have a light silver front! still better than what was on
  323. #323

    nor can i haha
  327. #327
looks really well mate!, just moved into a new flat so its put a bit of a damper on my project , just bought some new rods off andy_k last week, hoping to get the pistons/ rods fitted at payday as i still need h/g water pump and timing belt kit, then once ive ran that in... its bolt on time!!!

sadly mf2 for me for the forseeable as i just cant afford to go standalone with the move and pending fatherhood lol, but should still be a nice little toy for what i need

dyno run for the quicky needed mate!!
  328. #328
Well few updates in roughly 12hrs time mapping shall be commencing But the pain in the dumper is that I will have to take the whole front end off just to remove the lambda sensor due to its tight position!

SO bumper, rad, i/c will have to come off which is a pain as will have to rebleed system again , also half the dash is out due me making a thing for the afr gauge to sit in where the pass vent is in the middle. Other than that need to get some more petroleum aswell and monies for said mapping so very early start for me

Areet Andy sounds like a plan mate in your situation always worth taking time
  329. #329
copy n paste from Datashift affiliates section but this is basically what happened today pics will follow later :

Guys what can I say that hasn't already been said? Andy is one of the most brilliant people ever full stop extremely impressed doesn't describe how today went!

Early start for me 8am to get old lambda out, putting dash back together with the gauge etc but once Andy had come just before 11am made him a cuppa had a chat he worked out some figures for the injectors and fpr I am running. Once done we got to work calibrating the lc-1 and adjusting some setting on the Predator before starting it up.

First thing that impressed me was the fact that idle was just a tad over 1k but once Andy had fiddled with a few more settings boom idle on gauge was 1k on software was 1020rpm ish. Now that was done we did some quick mapping but one problem didn't have air temp sensor totally my fault So since we was going up and down the a483 we stopped off at my mates garage in wrexham to get one fitted that then off we went for more tweaking.

We mapped on high boost which felt really well (11/12psi) all seemed well and on way back Andy tested duty cycle and with my 185cc injectors @4bar they was running 120%!!! So slowed right down pulled into petrol station and turned the boost right down to the normal 8psi and off we went again for more tweaking all went well no problems to report on way back seemed to keep up with one of those mg turbo estate things quite well.

Andy had a go himself and for a scrapheap challenge turbo build he said it went well Even once we got back he wanted to do a bit more tweaking on hot starting! All in guys I would recommend the Predator to any of you 16v people or Quik/Furio/Westcoast owners may it be for TBS, N/A tuning, Boost you can not get a better or faster service with Andy and the Predator.

Put it into perspective arrived just before 11am messed about a bit and went mapping just after 12pm and we had finished mapping to a point Andy was happy at just past 2pm! £495 fitted and mapped plus his travel cost more than worth the investment.

Power wise estimate on low boost mid 130sbhp and on high boost mid 150sbhp but r/r in few weeks, car as it is now drives pretty dam well
  330. #330
SOunds good Gav. Good to have it fully up and running!
I need to reply to your PM as well
  331. #331
sounds really good - bigger injectors then?
  332. #332
yes bigger injectors = perma high boost

you bloody got that right mate as with all things there are still things to do, there is something I can do maybe next year to get more (new head, cam, hybrid turbo) but again its all cost as with all things.

Got this small list to do over next few months could get most of it done in a weekend I guess but its time and money first 4 things be able to sort them easy but next 3 will take to garage to sort out.

    Quote:
    lower brace
    change rear bump strips
    filler and paint spoiler
Sort better oil return (similar issues to Si but the turbo is fine)
    Elise Seats & subframes
    ap 2pots 283mm disc
    rear lines & vtr mcl
kurust underside of boot floor and hole in boot, zinc primer it all
sand down slam panel, strut tops and scuttle then paint
anyway crap pic of the bay as it is now, plenty to do to tidy it up will get pic of the gauge once I've tidied it up bit more

  334. #334
    lovin it pal
  335. #335
    awsome m8,
glad to hear it is going well
looking forward to andy messing with mine again soon lol
  336. #336
i like this!! wish i had the money for a predator!!! guess ill have to wait till next year, i need a vid of this in action mate , sounds like nice power!!

since im running mf2 and will be taking around 1 bar boost ive deicded i may modify my rallye inlet to take 4 extra injctors, then ill have 1 per cylinder running nicely and evenly between the cylinders, thinking of getting boss'es aly welded into the top of the runners near the block, that are angled to spray directly into the inlet ports.
  337. #337
cheers adz still want them shafts off you mate so let me know when you are ready

Andy good idea mate, tbh the mates I've taken out in this think it goes pretty well for a low boost setup but I'm a bit "meh" its ok lol

on other news oh hello new vnt turbo

    good work mate!
  343. #343
re-jigged the list a bit so I know what I am doing and in what order it is being done still plenty to do should get majority out of the way in the next few weeks, should have more progress over weekend

    Quote:
    change rear bump strips
    filler and paint spoiler
    lower brace
    fit billies and top mounts
Sort better oil return (similar issues to Si but the turbo is fine)

    200mm flywheel n clutch
    1.1 box

    when times allows

    Elise Seats & subframes
    ap 2pots 283mm disc

kurust underside of boot floor and hole in boot, zinc primer it all
sand down slam panel, strut tops and scuttle then paint
Anyway got these to fit with new top mounts

  344. #344
Right rolling road day on sunday car is running 7psi at the moment but come sunday what power will we be making? Other than that above list still stands got my mate sorting brackets for the brakes but using 254mm discs so will fit under the rallye steelies I will be getting
  345. #345
    120.7bhp @ 4558 rpm 145.6lbft @ 4001rpm running 7psi

will get it scanned in later but curve is mega smooth

    Class result there Gav,
As said the torque must feel great.
  348. #348
    Ross it certainly does mate

Aly cheers yeah it defo feels good but plenty that can be better

conclusion is that 16v clutch setup needs fitting along with 1.1 box, inter bearing shafts plus bigger injectors then everything will be fine and can run around 12psi safely
  349. #349
Nice figure gav, and nice looking curve! looking forward to seeing the plans take shape

mucho love for this car <3
  352. #352
thanks Andy plans in place for more power already new plans should see about 4-6 psi better head and cam, better clutch/box so will be all good. Power est if that goes well I hope to crack the 150 mark.

and cheers for comments everyone else
  353. #353
looking nice mate, really cant wait to get mine on now!!! its getting nearer and nearer

    cheers Andy yeah close now!

    thanks lister

Tom lol you seen the state of this shed needs bitd respraying first before you detail it
  357. #357
that's a ridiculous amount of torque mate!!

I'm concerned (as I was on the day) why the power doesn't continue to rise to 5500-6000rpm, I am still of the opinion that the small exhaust diameter just after the manifold is causing you major restrictions, that should just open up and go on the make more power, even at low boost.

I worry that upping the pressure will make more power, but you're forcing more through a restriction...

    Torque though! Wholesome goodness

    Andy
  358. #358
there is one thing I am pretty 100% sure why power is being sapped going to change that, clutch, box give ti a run if it confirms my suspcions then bigger injectors will go in and you will be coming for another remap but will let you know in due course as I should have majority of the work done in next 6/7weeks.

But hey yeah the torque especially at that rpm is crazy!
  359. #359
Hurrah updates pretty much everything in bold is being done on saturday and the 3 things below the saturday after hopefully with the changes happening this week clutch, shafts n box will be able to take bit more boost. The cam should hopefully sure the "needs to go faster a bit more" on low boost issue then rest is just cosmetic.

Then end of the month when I get the injectors I should be able to turn the boost up again but will obviously do that when the remap happens unsure if I will do that this side of xmas but will see

    Quote:
    200mm flywheel n clutch
    1.1 box
    inter bearing shafts
    VTR Cam
    lower brace
    filler and paint spoiler

    fit billies and top mounts
    redo downpipe
    rear lines

    when times allows

Sort better oil return (similar issues to Si but the turbo is fine)
    Elise Seats & subframes
kurust underside of boot floor and hole in boot, zinc primer it all
  360. #360
what andy said about the exhaust being restrictive might be whats giving great torque

the t 2 exhaust houseing was very restrictive on mine and that made massive mounts of torque
  361. #361
yeah will see after the cam change on saturday with the other stuff what difference it makes Martin, problem with the charade turbo is the exhaust flange opening is dead small and the taper the adapter to go into that is well small its going well atm but may change for a small sized turbo again poss just a T2 or a VNT one of some sort
  362. #362
right ok time for a few updates, decided as this is not fast enough the gti is getting boosted in its place hence the updates on the other thread with new build stuff. This in the next few weeks will be going to the garage to get the 1.4 16v fitted then will be using it more as a daily drive. Here is the job list

    filler and paint spoiler
    braided rear lines
    lower brace
    2 new tyres
    Elise Seats & subframes
kurust underside of boot floor and hole in boot, zinc primer it all
sand down slam panel, strut tops and scuttle then paint

few pictures from before bit strange as it looks like the car is semi clean. Rolling on S1 RG 13s atm but seeing as it will be daily and everything must be cheap to renew if needed

    Spot the I/C?

Needs to come down bit more

as Aly says 90bbhp standard but has same torque as a mk2 vtr, don't worry on the wheels for now i've managed to get the 13s for winter so will do for now.

  369. #369
hahaha was on the way to dover on my ring trip and my boost pipe blew off but was running really late so could stop to put it on so was gonna ask if it's k to drive with it off was worried about killing summot my brain said no it was kk but every thing else said i would kill the engine haha

    nice car bud
  371. #371
    ah ok chris, cheers oz

not much to update really ordered some tiger seal to do rear spoiler proper plus 2 tyres. Should be able to tick a few more things off the list this weekend oh I am also going to fit ABS aswell along with refit pas stuff in time
  372. #372
selection of stuff to stick on not all mind you

  373. #373
got a few more things sorted for this to be fitted around the new year for a bit more power, seeing at the gti is going to take a fair while to actually get done the war horse is being used a bit longer.

So got a 90bhp silvertop vtr head (if dave finds one) 98bhp cam, mi16 injectors, S1 rallye inlet small things like but that with a bit more boost ie around 12psi should have a bit more power
  374. #374
    Shit car,
    Shit updates

    Mods delete this thread please.
nah I love you Gav love everything you're doing
  375. #375
Same shit another day, having used the turbo for a week or so as the daily it's actually better on petrol than the gti even with the turbo over a full tank around another 40-60 miles which saves me about £10 ish a week

But seeing as the valve stems are going and not the piston rings (again) as first thought decision has been made to sell the C2 VTS inlet and turbo kit off this to fund the below

Got a few parts acquired for the new build, still few parts needed like oil pressure switch from the block, fan switch sensor on rad, induction pipe from inlet to airbox

Silvertop 90bhp head (rebuild with new valve stems) (thanks to jason aka mandyslover)
    s1 rallye inlet with tb
s1 airbox plus the pipe with it that goes to tb (thanks to miamibluebaby)
    hg kit
oil, oil filter, spark plugs, fuel filter

Once everything is done and dusted the car will be complete as follows which shall be done mid january hopefully, should get most of it done over a weekend quite easily.

    Engine & box

    Predator ECU and LC1 wideband
    1.4 bottom end
silvertop 90bhp head (new valve stems, cam seal 98bhp cam)
    S1 Rallye inlet & tb
    Cituning Turbo kit with GT25R
    mi16 injectors & 4 bar fpr
    200mm flywheel and clutch setup
    1.1 box

    106 GTi front arb
Xsi front brakes & VTR rear beam braided lines all round

MOT is due in Febuary it went straight through last time no problems but this time will need welding in 2 places - on the tranny tunnel and in the boot by the light, going to try and get a new front bumper and bonnet after this is done as getting a decent colour match is a pain with quiksilvers 2 main silvers but 17 different shades! Anyway few pics of parts that have been acquired in last few weeks

I'll sort a proper index for this later on
  376. #376
this is what will be coming back on

  377. #377
Right few things updated see above 2 posts sold a few odds and ends so looks good
  378. #378
All sounds like good plans! love the fact that when you do stuff its like... 'should be done over the weekend'

shame I dont have the funds for the head nor the inlet :/
