i have a prob with my car when car is not switched on and i press clutch down and go thru the gears it is smooth 2 engage thru all gears but when im driving gears feel stiff to engage and change down 4th and 5th gears feel fine any idea guys many thanks

Do you mean 4th and 5th feel fine to engage, or you mean changing down from these gears is hard work? lol

Is there any noises coming from the gearbox/clutch area when your driving? Can sound like a grating noise sometimes.

4th and 5th feel fine 2 engage but 1st 2 3rd up gears and down in thes feel hard work but no noises from clutch or box car drives fine in all gears driving doesnt pop out of gear but sometines from 2nd to 3rd does crunch sometimes going into 3rd

pissin me off now as just spent loads sortin it recently had new drivers side drive shaft cv joint and wheel bearing

Hmmm, id start with checking the pin on the selector. On top of the gearbox youll see an arm to which a gearlinkage is attached, see if theres much play there. The pin could have come loose. If it comes out altogether though your gear stick will go 100% floppy from left to right but remain in gear.

    Also check gear linkages.

Theyre your free checks, anything after will cost money or time. Start with them

is the pin supposed to be dead tight then and how is pin held on soz 2 be lame this my first saxo so all a learning curve 4 me lol clutch feels fine and gettin noo noises from box so thought wud get advice here first b4 spending more dough lol big respect for advice guys tho

If you think of axel stands, how you higher the standbit then put a pin through there. Should prevent any movment basically. This wont 100% be your problem btw but its a free check before spending your p's.

thanks buddy and for pic fetch me daughter from school and av a look in bit tho if it aint that what you reckon as some one posted they ad same prob even after new clutch

Well after checking ball joints between the gearstick and gearbox, then it would have to be something internal within the gearbox.

You can get VTR gearboxes for £60-80 and then £20 for gearbox oil, easy job to do yourself, so nothing to worry about really.

thanks bud any ideas on how much new clutch wud be as don think it ever been changed car is just over 90,ooo miles wud it be wise 2 change this if does turn out to be box

106parts are selling valeo at an introductory offer of £80 atm aparently.

Budget about £100 for clutch though. Dont buy cheap ones or youll be buying twice, literally after a day somtimes.

    Fresh gearbox oil £20

For the sake of £60 extra you may aswlel put a fresh box on there, labour will cost the same if you take it to a garage as just replacing the clutch.

where is the bite point? mine clutch sadjuster moved and wassnt fully opening the clutch therefore making it hard to get in gear...
  16. #16
    about half way i think
  17. #17
yeahh, mine used to be 100x worse before i had the clutch done, but it was because the release bearing was knackered, also with mine, the stick has a lot of free play/movement whilst any gear is engaged, will have a look at the pin tomorrow
  18. #18
right as i said at start dont think its pin or linkages no noise from box or clutch but was wrong about bite point it is right at the top any ideas thinking clutch
  19. #19
yeahhh, my bite was at the top when i had the clutch replaced, now its about a quarter of the way up
