Hi spec discs

  1. #1
Right iv got my billet 4s ready to fit with new 1144s, pins, clips, hoses and master cylinder and fluid

But i want to replace the discs ideally, anyone have any other suppliers apart from hi spec themselves, as they want £65 a disc plus vat plus delivery

Would gti6 discs work as they are only 2mm smaller at 283mm

    Regards
    Andi

    I'm running 306 gti6 discs

I had to shave a fraction of a mm off one of the pads and been spot on since - went for the Maxtorq discs from Kam and have been spot on.

When I go for a be conversion I'm looking to correct the offset of the hub with a very small spacer so that 306 gti-6 discs fit straight on.

I used renault 21 turbo discs to solve the offset issue then re drilled the centre hole and stub pattern

hmmm gti6 ones dont sound to bad then, i take it its the front pad that needs shaving ? (does the whole face of the pad need doing if so how did you do that)

It is the outside pad that needed filing down.

I fitted it all up, and the wheel wouldn't rotate, so I looked at what was rubbing.

And then took the pad, lay it flat on a bench and then used a fine file to just shave it down.

It sounds a lot worse than it acutally is tbh, I literally took such a small amount off!!

I'd not hesitate to do it again and fit more 306gti-6 discs !! Means I can get through 2 sets of discs to one set of hi spec ones.

could you not of just done a mile or two to burn the pads down abit?

I was worried about warping the disc trying to force the car down the road (not sure if this was me being too anal)? Wasn't sure about it, and wanted to wear the pads and discs in properly so just thought I'd try and do it properly

I literally spent 1min max on each outside pad - so 2mins max
and they were spot on, and have been ever since.

Pad wear looks to be fine, nice and even. The pads to overhang the edge of the disc by like 0.5mm but nothing that worries me tbh.

sounds like a plan, i suppose i could even get the inside of the disc machined down by 2mm to get them to fit perfectly

I doubt it would warp it but your method seems fine anyhow though. Proven and tested so might aswell stick with it

would you say it was more or less than 1mm you took off as those pins are an absolute arse to get out, wouldnt want to put them all together then have to remove the pins again. (took me 5 hrs last time)
  13. #13
    the pins ?!

Just knock them out with a small punch !? 1minute = done. They only come out one way remember

Just buy new ones from Hi Spec, I think my total invoice came to £14 delivered for the pad fitting kit.

    Less than 1mm easily

yeah i had a ballache with some corroded pins. Iv purchased some new ones now

Thanks for the advice on the discs though, i just hope its all worth it when they are on

yeh no worries, you'll see what I mean about shaving a small amount off when you fit them!!

New ones are a great investment - mine did need a good hit to get out initially
