engine oil - halfords

i need some oil today as i checked the dipstick and its on the minimum.

i only have a halfords near me. so can someone recommend anything from there? i have a vtr with sportex exhaust and raceland induction kit.

do i need to drain out all oil and get a 2/5l bottle? or just top up with a 1l bottle?

    thanks.

Halfords dont sell descent oil tbh, its basically their own branded oil (which your better off using urine)

And Castrol, id buy a 5lr bottle of semi synthetic 10W/40, of the Castrol stuff. And possibly an oil filter. Then swap them over when you can get your hands on some descent oil/filter.

Halfords own branded fully synthetic is fine tbh.

What a load of balls. How do they not sell decent oil? I have always used halfords oil and it is absolutely fine! It is also way cheaper than the other "branded" oils.

There is NO need to buy expensive oil for a 'more of less' standard engine.

Yeah it will be fine, as long as you bought the right type.

    mobil super s 10w 40 semi-synthetic. ?

ive also got a leak from the oil filter and im assuming thats why the oil has gone down so quick, do i just tighten this up?

i will be draining the oil and replacing the oil filter soon but i just need a quick fix for now

Its way cheaper for a reason, ask anyone with an idea on here "which oil should i use if i care about the reliability, durability and relative performance of my engine, halfords own brand 10W/40 or the brand Silkolene, Motul, Amsoil or fuchs? 5W/40 or 10W/40?

Have a look through here, get some ideas.

cant find a large enough socket to tighten, and it wont budge with the pliars ive got,

so the 10w 40 will be alright to use then yeah? only i hear mixed opinions between that and the 15w40

10W/40 mate, cant remember off the top of my head what size socket you need mate.

Id go with the castrol stuff untill you get it serviced mate, should be fine

It'll be the seal that's fucked

Wait until you get a new oil filter and you get a replacement o-ring with them.

That casing doesn't have to be very tight at all. Overtighten it and you'll have buckets full of fun trying to take it off come oil change time.

As said above more than likely the seal which is gone if its leaking oil round there. you'll need a 27mm socket to get the canister off

thanks guys. its not leaking that much so ill leave it till i get a replacement
