Does anyone know if these are any good at all. Looking for a mid range setup that will slam the front. says on the specs it will drop 100mm.

Are a fairly good item but for 100mm there's no point as your putting good coilovers on a car that's not built performance in anyway. 100mm will just sit wishbones in your shell

Please dont waste a set of AST's on your car.

Just chop the springs or buy some of those cr4ppy raceland coilovers, they will 'slam yo car' ...

They are a very good coilover unit. They take a few weeks to get in though as they are custom made to order.

Just to let you know i only dropped my car 40mm on the raceland coilys and i don't have any problems, just a bit uncomfy over pot holes lol

I already have those coilovers and they are not good value for money... There Shit lol. Every pot hole i hit they bottom out. I want a good setup that will slam the car. There must be something on the market that will do it. Any one help... FKs, GAZ.... any suggestions appreciated for a euro look so does need to be low but good quality! thanks, sam

They're a good setup for handling, if you want to slam the car though they're not for you. That's not what they're designed to do, so that's why you're having problems.

Fair enough. Well im stuck then. i really have never known such hassle to put a car loww. I see plenty around but no one seems to know the best options.. My Zetec S was straight forward enough with a set of APs. Not many for the saxo mind.. hmmmm???

Dont throw your rattle outta the pram lol, a gaz kit will do it with the right spring setup. Or make your own setup up from rally design etc.....

Or ask people that are low on here?? Simples

one advantage of the AST's are that they don't need the hubs modifying. They are designed to fit in the same way as o/e dampers but still with height adjustment.

ahh rite. Out of interest, How will using these prevent the bottoming out problem i suffer at the moment using budgets as the clearance is very minimal.. so how is the gap increased with the same drop?? Different spring seats?

Most definately an epic reading failure on my part ...

dave i think the OP is saying he has racelands allready not the ASTs.

The reason that fez's are easy is because they have a coil/strut on each corner. Saxos you dont and thus thats why the suspension set ups are different.

    FLOL. My bad.

I stand by my point though, please dont waste a set of AST's on a car that just wants 'slamming'. They are an epic piece of kit.

First they are designed to run low so have enough piston movement before hitting the bumpstop, they are also valved and sprung correctly. The budget kits are usually too soft so allow the car to bottom out.
The less movement you have, the more you need to control it.
The road springs on the AST are 170lb which is the minimum i'd want. I'd be tempted by 220lb.

Ahh rite. Im still a bit concerned tho as to whether it will bottom out. the gap i probably 20mm between the top and bottom mounts so i know that by putting stiffer springs on will reduce the bottoming out but to me thats still a very minimal gap. I thought the more expensive kits come with a complete hub/ strut assembly (I assumed the bottom spring seat would sit lower than on a standard strut assembly). Confused.. Sorry for all the questions, just wanna get it right this time, already made a bad mistake in going for budgets lol. thanks, sam

think the budgets can be made to work tbh mate, Have a look on here unless you have already done that to them?

The more expensive kits can be fitted to modified struts buy ast/gaz leda etc. Can get the steering arms turned upside down so they sit more level when low (safer) and also get the dampers plugged/shortened so youd only need a 6 inch spring etc You wont get much more tube thread by doing this however as the srms can only be moved down by a little. Plus it will be SHockingly expensive to do.

Hmm. I have read through the thread about the budget coilovers, but i still dont fully understand how using a larger top spring mount will stop it bottoming aout as its still in the same place plus youve then cut your spring so the travel will surely be shorter will it not?? im really confused now lmao. Does the 3 inch top mount let the threaded tube pass through the middle of the new spring seat?? thats all i can see that will change anything. thanks
