Important! : gear linkages hitting exhaust/manifold...

  1. #1
    well..

i will probably get the inevitable ''raise the car'' but as you should know... that isnt an option.

i keep hitting my manifold on the floor when driving, knocking it up towards the gear linkages.

is there anything i can do to move the gearlinages out of the way? i'm not sure why they sit so close to the manifold, as its not like the manifold sits very high up. if anything, its lower than the standard manifold.

im getting annoyed as i cant see a solution to the problem... bar maybe trying a standard manifold back on? or to raise the car. no way.

any suggestions would be very very very much appreciated, because i'm driving to belgium and back in 2weeks, could do with all of my gears!

    thanks

maybe you need a new lower engine mount

i had a powerflex lower mount put in about 6months ago, so i dont think it would be ruined in that time?

doubt it, what manifold and exhaust are you running?
  5. #5
janspeed 4-2-1 (8v) and a supersprint race centre section.

if it makes any difference i have kam racing gear linkages on too

I had the same problem, but its just the heatsheild being pushed up into the linkages by the centre section.

I bent the heatsheild down abit and the problem vanished.

Probably not to the extent chiddy has his car is extremely low
I would be tempted to suggest and it's an odd one but a lower brace would be something in the way to prevent the mani getting bent
but I really don't think you have the ground clearance
you can't really go making custom linkages as the geometry would be wrong meaning youd struggle to get gears

only thing I can honestyle suggest is see which bit of the manifold is hitting and see if you can put a dent in it to clear the linkages

cheers alex, i've been told that the lower mount fork might be on upside down as that causes the same problem i have...

i think i must have bent the manifold up by battering it off the floor.

i havent got a heatsheild on the car so there goes that idea.. lol

    any other possible idea's??

any pictures of peoples gearlinkages would be appreciated, to see just how far off the manifold they should sit...

my mates manifold sits really low to the floor, when following him as soon as he goes over a dip in the road you can see it touch the floor, but its almost constant, it is not like its extremely low. i have seen lower but they dont have any problems, can lower engine mount cause this?

Could anyone show me the problem with the mount or a picture of what bit may be upside down?

    Cheers

Anyone? wana make sure my lower fork aint upside down as I will be changing the gearbox mount soon and had a bit of exhaust touching linkages before so wanna makee sure its okay, if anyone could show a pic of it being either right or wrong

You'll know if it upside down because it pulls the engine back and the gear linkages hit the bulkhead and exhaust and you wont be able to change gear.

ah right...well when i fitted my new mani my linkage just touched the exhaust and vibrated off it in reverse...would still go in gear and everything so i just filed a couple of mill from the centre section...i think its something to do with the exhaust though not the mount if thats the case.

    Cheers
