Does this clutch look f**ked to you?

  1. #1
Sorry i don't know much about clutches, but my car was making a horrible scraping sound when i pressed the clutch in, and the car shook violently when pulling off

  2. #2
Hard to tell from pics as I can't make out how close the material is to the dowls, but by the look of it it's worn but I wudnt say nakerd. Have u checked the thrust bearing?
  3. #3
post some pictures up of the thrust bearing, the gearbox side of the pressure plate, and the other side of the clutch itself.

grrr i was kinda hoping i needed a new clutch, then it meant i found the problem, if everything is alright why was my car making such a horrible sound when pressing the clutch in and shaking really violently pulling off, it was shaking that much it would pop out of gear
  9. #9
maybe it was just the thrust bearing not being on the shaft properly? but it drove fine for about 100miles, the thrust bearing was on the shaft when i took the box off but it wasn't clipped on if you get me? but i was shaking the box quite a bit getting it off so it could have came un-clipped when removing the box,

    engine mount? gearbox mount?
  11. #11
doesnt explain why it was making a horrible sound
this is the video of the clutch making the sound if you wanna watch it
  12. #12
yeah i would check mounts - mine had a bolt missing and it would throw it out of gear, pop the linkages off etc

i think im gonna invest in some new mounts and rose jointed gear linkages, but i still dont know why it was making such a loud scraping noise
  14. #14
well the clutch has pleny left on it

same noise as mine was making and it got slowly worse until the release bearing went and replaced the whole clutch while it was all in bits and it hasnt made the noise since my mates bearing looked ok when he took his off but started to make noises

    hope this helps

regarding the noise- when you fitted the release bearing did you make sure it was hooked under the clutch fork properly, it sort of slots on
  17. #17
The only thing that looks funny is the hot part on the pressure plate that the clutch material is against? Looks like something has got hot and rubbed? - how does the release bearing feel? Rough or spins nicely?

Definitely sounds like a clutch orientated noise to me - hard one to call tbh

cheers, this noise hasn't slowly cam on, one day it just started making that noise, i don't particularly wanna change the clutch as its pretty much brand new

yea it was slotted on as far as i am aware, but by all means it might have came off while we were fitting the box back on but like i said it drove fine for a while, so unless it came off while i was on the car??

the release bearing spins freely, god this is annoying I'm sure if i bought a new clutch kit it would probably sort the problem out but id rather know whats up with it so i don't waste money i haven't got lol

Arguably for the ballache of doing a clutch you may aswell replace it now anyways if you can afford it?

meh doing a clutch is second nature to me now lol can bang one out in a day if i really tired lol and considering that one is pretty new i don't want to just chuck more money at it, and yea i cant really afford it just bought a load of goodies from kamracing and then this happened, also i want my cambelt doing which is gonna cost a bit as im gonna pay for someone to do that
  21. #21
Just a thought, as everything clutch related seems ok, have you checked the endfloat on the crank?
  22. #22
yeah mine did one day started it n put the clutch down and started making that noise and then got worse if the clutch is new i think you can buy the bearing on its own

that compression plate looks like its got really hot on one place at the bottom, was it a new clutch?clutch could be faulty?
  25. #25
isnt that just the reflection of the fella taking the picture?
  26. #26
All of them parts look fine, tryed rorating the bearing in the cluth plate and thrust bearing??

Check the flywheel face too see if its smooth while its out, it may need skimming

other than that its more than likely to be your driveshaft at fault

would a drive shaft make that noise while pressing in the clutch? i only just changed the drive shafts, i bought them off mandyslover and one of the clips have came loose? would this have anything to do with it??

Sorry, it might be worth checking for lengthways play in the crank.
You have thrust washers on one of the journels on your crank shaft to prevent it moving forward and back and if they wear the crank can move.
Not sure of it will be enough to notice but it might be worth checking/feeling if your crank moves in/out when the clutch is depressed?
Unlikely but its an idea if your really stuck.

Take a pic of the inpuet shaft.

Only think that I can see wrong is the clutch plate looks like its had somthing rotating unevenly in the center. See the clean metal in the center where it goes over the input shaft?

Check the casing round the input shaft imo

the input shafts looks alright mate, bear in mind this clutch has had three gear box changes lol so its likely that the shaft has hit the edge of the clutch a few times
