Engine swap

  1. #1
Sorry if this has already been covered, but struggling to find a definitive answer.

Need to swap the engine in my VTR (blacktop) can this be swapped for a single plug silvertop? if so are any additional parts required, found an engine which is complete, inlet manifold, throttle body etc....

    Thanks in advance

If you have a 3 plug and want a single plug you'd need to change the cars interior loom.

Its the big round connector for the engine loom thats different, behind the passenger side headlight.

But im not sure on which is which in terms of rocker colour.

Black top are mk1 Single plug so yes you could,

just need the engine complete, and assume you are just going from VTR to VTR just to let you know the Black top is 90bhp and so is the single plug VTR if your thinking its going to be 98bhp no.

No this is like for like, the engines not running to well...

Just there seem to be more silver topped engines available secondhand, just wanted to check if they were fully compatable i.e. no ECU or loom change required.

As long as the ECU has the same connector you'll be fine.
