higher reving

what is needed to allow a vts engine to rev higher?

is it just head work such as springs and followers, and lightened/balanced crank and low/high comp pistons?
  2. #2
And you will need the rev limit raised on the ecu i beleive
  3. #3
will be going stand alone ecu mate so that wouldnt be a problem just wanted to know if i would e able to rev higher if i upgrated to low comp pistons and rods and got my crank done

will be getting a turbo cam with uprated valves and springs and followers if they need changing too

would i be able to rev to 8k with all this being upgraded?
  4. #4
no, any higher than 7800 and you wanna be looking at solid lifters m8,
the pistons and stuff will help tho.
  5. #5
I would also consider rods and big end bolts.
  6. #6
yeah i did say in my 2nd post that i would upgrade pistons and rods

how much would solid lifters be?
  7. #7
not to worry just been looking on hiflowheads at prices

what are they like? as i may get them to do my head get it all race prepped by them so my car could stably rev to 8k

They seem to have mixed reviews...i have never had any dealings with them so i cant comment sorry

To fit solid lifters and cams, thats probably near on £2k
Then you will need to work out whether the rods and crank can take the strain..

Forget Highflow..you want an engine builder with plenty of experience building track and race engines. I suggest a call to GMC for starters..
Its probably a good idea to know why you want to rev higher. If your cam choice is still producing power above the current limit then certainly. Otherwise you need to change gear...

was thinking to use a gt25-28 turbo and thought it would boost past the normal 7k'ish mark?

i am pretty sure that that turbo is fine with the normal rev limit m8, im sure it dies off before 7250, someone correct me if im wrong

ah ok then mate no worries, do you know roughly what kinda revs the gt25 cuts in at all mate?

My 8valve was cammed and it revved to 7,700rpm

They rev to 7800 ish fairly happily. Theres not a great deal of power up there though i would concentrate on trying to get the power lower down rather than having an engine that gets peak power on the verge of throwing a rod

    lol thats fair enough mate

can standard 106gti ecu be remapped/tweaked?

as its going to be put on a rolling road soon and get an afr print out so i was going to get them to sort the fueling out if its running a little on the lean side?
  17. #17
Yeah the standard ecu can be tweaked. I got 5bhp and 5lbf extra
  18. #18
cool maybe they can tweak my ecu to give a little gain with my breathing mods? lol
