Dipped beams and high beams - headlights

  1. #1
    Evening,

On most new cars when you engage the full/main beam the dipped stays on, with the saxo the dipped turns off. Question is, how can I change the wiring on my sax to get the dipped to stay on when I pull the main beam stalk?

You sure you don't have a fault in the wiring?

Mine is a 51 plate, registered sept '01, and i gather by your username that you have a VTR too so it can't be the model.

    Why does it bother you?

Well it is a furio, I registered on here before I got the car originally was planning on a VTR but this popped up and was a steal.

It doesn't bother me to much but it just annoys me that they switch off as it would be so much brighter with them on. Perhaps pick up a new relay from a newish vtr at a scrappy?

Might be because it's a furio then.

sounds like bad earth or fault in wiring.........
  8. #8
But why would they both work seperately if there was a fault? I looked in the haynes manual but can't work out anything from the headlight wiring diagram!

think you defo have earth problem mate........

hmm.. You know you can pull the headlight/indicator stalk when you have dipped beams on? Just before it clicks both come on and will stay on but you have to hold the stalk before it clicks. Like when you flash someone to say thank you etc.. yet when you pull it back to keep main beams on and you get that click noise to keep it there i.e night driving that is when the dipped beams turn off.. If it was an earth problem surely they wouldn't work when you hold the stalk?

If anyone has a picture of the wiring diagram to post it would be appreciated..

Found a thread, simo posted them all up in: http://www.saxperience.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24339

According to that they should go off, i'm no electrician but that looks the case to me

Deffo not a fault, and probably not a thing you can do to change it apart from getting a whole new loom from a car that the lights stay on when main beam is turned on.

Just for info....not all cars even new cars keep the dipped beam on when main beam is on.

Also, doesn't make the lights any brighter having them both on, just the dipped beam lights the road closer to the bumper more as opposed to the main beam lighting further ahead, if you get me.

Wouldn't worry about it and leave it as it is, not losing anything.

On mine, the dipped beam stay on with main beam if using them to flash etc. When you pull the stalk back so it stays on permanatly, the dipped beam turns off.

    This is with Angel eyes.

How is this possible when saxo's use the same bulb for dipped beam and main beam?

Ahh sorry I didn't think it would matter if they were angel eye's or not?! I've got the mk2 black one's if that makes a difference.. I had a look and was thinking about checking out the multifunction switch in the relay, not sure which one is the relay for the lights though

exactley what i was thinking, on most cars if not all with H4 headlight bulbs when the Full beam is on constant (not as though your flashing someone) the Dipped beam goes out, if you've got two seperate bulbs (H7 dipped beam and H1 Full beam) then the dipped beam stays on.

either way aslong as the road is lit up in front of you i can't see what the problemo is

only one of my dipped beams work but they both work on full beam?? i checked all fuses and there all good.. wat else can i do???

did anyone figure out a way on how to do this?

Mine go off aswell i have had 3 saxos and all done this never thought it was a problem

It's not a problem. You'd shag the H4's if both filaments were on at the same time for a prolonged period.
