Full System And Manifold

Have searched a lot and learned quite a bit but now looking for some advice on this.

I have a 2003 MK2 VTR, I want to upgrade the entire system, from manifold to box, however I don't want the hassle of putting a cat back in for MOT or the very off chance of getting caught! I'm declaring it all on insurance also.

So is it a CatBack system I need? Have been looking at the Kamracing and Saxport systems.

Basically hit me with a load of links and a rundown of what I'll need please!

If you want to keep it all legal then yes you will need a cat back exhaust system, you could also have a aftermarket manifold. Bare in mind you could have a sports cat which helps flow over a standard cat but tbh they are expensive. People all seem to rate saxsport/kamracing/supersprint mostly on here...

isnt the cat in the manifold on mk2 vtr's? if so that means you could have a manifold back exhaust system but not change the manifold. Other option as said, is to have a sports cat under the car!

You can install a 4-2-1 manifold and then buy a manifold back system that includes a cat or sports cat. Expensive but all legal

    Thanks for the help!

I do want to upgrade the manifold as that (apart from the cat, let's forget that for a second) is where most gain is to be had?

So a catback or a catback with a sports cat is what I need really isnt it?

    A sports car aint cheep!

You could buy a manifold (4-2-1) or (4-1)
The buy a exhaust system what has a cat replacement (miltek, magnex, ect ect)

Then when its MOT time you can just replace the cat

your best bet would be to get the janspeed 4-1 manifold with the sports cat. Yes its a lot of money, but sports catalytic converters are not cheap by any means.
Then go for a straight through exhaust system of your choice. I would of course recommend our kam racing system over others but there are others on the market..

Is this possible? - Aftermarket manifold, but put in a MK1 cat/pipe(under the car between the manifold and centre pipe) and then straight through and performance back box..

I'd also like to know, in theory this is possible.

If it is, 'chrsjcb' could keep it legal wit the CAT, but get the gains from the system. Just a thought i had.

Yes this is what I was thinking, cats incorporated into the manifold appear to be very expensive.

Is it possible to buy "Cat pipes", being a noob most probably but are they produced?

That way I can have whatever manifold, a cat and then a straight through or silenced pipe to the can?

    ManGo-SaXo I just realised what you're saying....

This sounds very good but could be a bit of a project, I'm looking for something relatively straightforward.

If you can buy a cat pipe then this sounds like it would work?

yes it is possibile to fit a mk1 manifold/decat/exhasut to a mk2 you just have to sleeve the second lambda sensor

but to keep things simple buy this
    http://www.kamracing.co.uk/index.php...vtr-00-03.html
    and this
    http://www.kamracing.co.uk/index.php...st-system.html

job done and question answered! the manifold with sports cat will pass an mot and you will be able to plug the two lambda sensors in, that you get on a mk2 saxo so its all a straight fit and never have to worry about anything

personally id just fit a mk1 4-2-1 manifold for £150 (£300 less than the sports cat version) and take 10min to swap manifolds over at mot time

Ok thanks, sports cat manifold it is then!

I wouldn't have a problem swapping it over before an MOT but isnt being decat illegal?
I don't want to void my insurance or have some smart ass copper throwing the book at me.
  16. #16
well it would be very hard for a copper to know if you had a decat exhaust, the only time the police have ever looked at my car is to read the plates ive never had anyone ask me to open up the bonnet and correct me if im wrong but i dont think they can make you open your bonnet if you dont want to but then they will do everything in their power to make your life difficult etc

Yeah I get what you're saying, it's a bit difficult for them to find out. Just would annoy me thinking that they could do if they wanted to take it to be looked at.

I think I'll try and find a manifold with cat a bit cheaper than the Janspeed one or maybe a second hand one.

The Kam Racing system looks spot on though! I wouldn't need a silencer on it in the centre sections would I?

If I could give thanks I would, tomorrow I will.

Its not hard to tell if a car is decat. You can even smell it if your car is decatted! And the coppers in basingstoke arent to good.I have a full supersprint system on my car.Got to traffic lights on the main roundabout and when the lights turned green they waited for me to go past them as they heard it!

i have the janspeed manifold....i think its not that good i keep getting leaks.

i have the same idea as chrsjcb.....check it out ttp://www.saxperience.com/forum/showthread.php?t=326241

Ah trackjase that is exactly what I don't want happening... The last thing I want is police checking me out.

S666UKH - Is that the sports cat manifold?
  21. #21
Will I see good gains from getting a catback system and keeping the stock manifold until I feel like shelling out a load for it?
  22. #22
Yeh it is....it passes m.o.t easy....it's passed twice.

Check for the pic on my page.

If you sell it I would be interested!

    i will keep u posted
