How To- rebuild a vts head

1st of all your going t need to remove the head from the car as done in this guide -
    http://www.saxperience.com/forum/showthread.php?t=65315

When the head is removed I would recommend you cover your bottom end, so no crap gets in.

Now you will need to remove you cams, as done in the following guide-
    http://www.saxperience.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=322657

Once you have the head and cams removed you can start to rebuild your head.

    Tools needed.
    - valve spring compressors £45/50
    - magnet £3
    - good light.
    - Valve Grinding Stick £4

Parts needed full list (I have not replace all parts).

    - 16 followers/tappets aprox £200
    - 8x inlet, 8x exhaust valves aprox £320
    - 16x valve springs £75
    - 16x spring retainers (sit on top of the spring) piper steels ones £73+ vat
    - valve half cones, (bit that sits between spring retainer and valve to lock valve down) unsure on price props about £20 30
    - I would also recommend, a skim and crack test £60

    Rebuilding the head.

    1. Use a magnet to remove followers.

    2. Place the valve spring compressor, on the bottom of the valve and over the spring retainers on top.

    3. Then tighten until you see the valve half cones pop out.

    4. Loosen the valve spring compressor off, use the magnet to lift spring retainers out and spring, then you will see the valve stem. Simply push the valve out.

    5. Repeat this on all 16 valves, try to keep everything from each valve together, draw a pic on a box and punch them though ect..

    6. Now the head has been removed, its good idea to send it for a skim and crack test, before and after…

    7. The valves will have a lot of coking on the bottoms, use a vale grinding stick to remove this, if your not replacing them. atm onli have pic of after get pic befor to mora.

    8. Once this is done you can rebuild the head. In reveres order to dismantling it.

    9. Push valve up in, sit the new springs in, new spring retainers on, the put the valve spring compressor on tighten down then carefully place the, valve half cones in and loosen the spring compressor off.

    10. place the new followers back on, job done.

    11. follow guild to refit cams and head gaskit now

anything i have missed ect please let me know and i will change it, also my 1st guide, hope this helps some people.

    Thanks Mark

    stem seals are a must.

Also recommended is to lap the valves into the seats

not reali a must, myn were in very gd condion so left them, plus my citreon garaged wonted about 5er each i think, so didt bother with them

Your right there not really a must. But its seems odd to go through all the effort of taking the valves out and not change them, motorfactors charge apporx £1/ea.

You would be mighty pissed off if you rebuilt your head and a few months later your seals leaked because you didnt change them

valve stem seals are around £1 each from Citroen - I did mine when I had the head apart and they were definitely sub £20 for a set
